  1. I guess they will lose the cannon this year, that save 20 bucks.

  2. You think NT is immune to the same things that almost every college athletic program is facing? NT like every other program is looking at ways to cut costs. How many programs can continue to pay for staffs that may not even have an opportunity to coach?

  6. As a school teacher, I am sure that the place I am most likely to be exposed to any illness is in my classroom, and I will gladly go back there five days a week next year. Going into Apogee six times will be an easy call. As far as vaccines go, I get a flu shot every year and will continue to despite the fact that it is usually about 25% effective it seems. A few years after the corona vaccine is available, if no one has grown an third nipple or anything, I'll consider it. On another note, in my twenty two years teaching the only lock down we ever had was because someone let a dog into the building.

  7. one of the beauties of the USA is that if you don't want to work/play/attend at a specific event, you don't have too. we are all free to make our own decisions and do what we want.

  9. I'm not exactly an "anti-vaxxer" but I"m not so sure I would want to head out and put this brand new vaccine with no history that is no doubt being rushed, into me and my kids... I get some people with underlying issues may way want it so there's a risk/reward thing there....but as for those that have no issues....I think I would just as soon take my chances with the virus. Or maybe I don't know enough about vaccines....

  11. I'll be at the games next year. Not hiding. If it comes it comes. Also, if this ODU guy recommends no sports or teaming up with the Sunbelt then I recommend NT vigorously pursues the AAC or something else.

  15. Totally shutting down the NBA forever will guarantee no one gets sick Just like shutting down roads will guarantee no one ever dies in a car wreck Not trying to be snarky but what's the answer? I mean the only way to guarantee no one ever gets sick is to not ever have another group event again.

  16. I've been inconsistent....I've gotten the flu in years I got the vaccine and I've not gotten it in years I didn't... Who knows..... What I've learned is the flu shot really only inoculates you from judgement...not from the flu itself

  17. So we’re all Mean Green Sports fans here. Other than a couple of individuals you wouldn’t even be posting on @Harry ‘s gmg.com unless you love Mean Green Sports and the University of North Texas. I would expect everyone here to be hoping and praying that Mean Green Sports return as fast as possible? If not then I would be wondering why your here at all? So we all want Mean Green Sports to return. I certainly do. And I know there’s not going to be a vaccine any time soon. So that means Sports, mainly for us football,...will have to return and if fans attend to watch they will have to do so with risks. How much risk is the $64,000 question? And so the questions to risks involved in attending an outdoor football game need to be...”At what risk is someone facing outside in heat and humidity and wind at a football stadium?”. I’ve been studying and researching this for a few days. One study that was 5-6 weeks old out of China says the virus in a lab setting needs an environmental temp of 39-76 degrees F to survive and thrive. Looking all that up led me to Aerosol Science(I didn’t know that existed to be honest). Here’s a link to the latest research I’ve found concerning Cov19 The coronavirus pandemic and aerosols: Does COVID-19 transmit via expiratory particles? Yall can read thru it and tell me what you think but for the most part I take from this is they just don’t have any idea what risks anyone is at outside in a weather related environment? So I have no idea how anyone can predict or make decisions for an event four months from now? Thoughts? Rick

  18. I covered Gombert in HS. He only got one year as a starter because the two dudes before him (Levi Williams-Wyoming and Josh Adkins-NMST/UTSA) were three-star recruits. So he is raw, but by all accounts he’s a leader in the locker room and has a decently strong arm. Plus, and I found this odd, he’s athletic but not a scrambler, mostly just bootlegs. I wrote this feature on him before the season started: https://valleyventana.org/10471/sports/new-qb-gombert-ready-for-the-limelight/

  19. This is why a certain side of Congress is trying to get immunity for businesses & institutions as it pertains to Coronavirus claims. Otherwise you will see MANY businesses and colleges close their doors waaaay longer than necessary in fear of exhaustive litigation expenses from ambulance chasing trial attorneys who are looking for their next big meal ticket. Nevermind that a customer or employee likely can't prove they got the virus from a particular establishment -- it'll be the "hey, you made me go into work and that's why I caught the virus -- I'll settle for $______ to make it go away". This will kill any hopes of the economy restarting -- thus, why it's important to have legal protections built in...

  24. one thing i learned in another thread is that it's basically an emotional v logical argument (based upon a users description of each side) one side that wants to shut everything down and stay home is using emotion one side that wants to open up and let people have choices in their lives are using logic i'm sure i'm wrong to the experts here (i'm no expert) and just making a generalization, but it's a thought

  25. I don't want him to empathize, I want him to be a scientist (which he's quick to tell us he is) and use the data. For example, Rand Paul was absolutely right today....there's no data that would suggest that we should not have school in the fall. Death rates in New York, the hot spot of the country, the worst hit by a mile, and evidently a state we have to use as the example for the rest of the country, has a death rate of people aged 0-18 of virtually ZERO...death rate of aged 18-49 (maybe 18-59...going on memory here) of 10 deaths per 100,000. Why in the hell would we close schools for those numbers? Why would we close anything based on that data? He doesn't have to have empathy....just read numbers. But I have to wonder....if his pay check was on the line...would he have the same conclusions? Use data...not emotions

  27. I think this is why you will see waivers requested. At the same time, when you mention risk - These are the same venues that will send hundreds, if not thousands of "under the influence" drivers out on the road after hours of drinking at the games.

  29. I don't see the false equivalency. Just because this virus is all scary and new doesn't mean we're not dealing with the same consequence which is death. What difference is it if you die from a virus or a car wreck....you're still dead. However we seem to want to put in place sweeping changes to society for one cause and not the other. I don't see the difference. Dead is dead and we have to decide what steps we want to take to avoid death. the easiest step being everyone stay inside. you know what else kills? Poverty....and we're about to see a spike in that too

  31. Statistics are interesting. In the 70's I met a social worker who was counseling a woman who had birthed 9 children in 9 years. When asked what she used for birth control she replied that her mother told her to nail a sweet potato over her bed. Now if she had intercourse 2 times a week, or 100 times a year, the sweet potato was 99% effective and should be sold in a basket in your neighborhood drug store.I assume that you are more at risk statistically in contracting the flu if you don't get a shot than if you do.

  36. Did you catch this part towards the end of the article? My good friend is a diehard Texas Tech fan and his wife is a successful corporate litigation lawyer. Before the conference tourneys and March Madness were canceled, she actually predicted it in February and brought him to tears by breaking down the numerous liability issues of student athletes playing sports during this pandemic. Think about it. A personal injury lawyer could easily argue that the NCAA, P5/G5 conferences, and universities are legally liable should student athletes become sick and die from COVID-19. A devastating legal argument could be made that these organizations knowingly risked the lives of their student athletes in pursuit of financial gain and even the coaches with their million dollar salaries could be swamped with lawsuits. Lawyers for the NCAA and universities fully understand the magnitude of this risk and their blessing will ultimately be needed before student athletes are allowed to take the field again. The lack of compensation for student athletes becomes an even messier issue during the pandemic. Student athletes (especially ones who are immunocompromised) would now be risking their lives to play sports without compensation or hazard pay. Not a good look when the universities, coaches, sponsors, and NCAA rake in the millions of dollars per business as usual. One last point, if student athletes get sick and die, this instantly becomes an absolute PR nightmare and sponsors will jump ship en masse. ADs and university presidents would be held responsible and heads would roll. So let me ask the board, how do you predict the risk-adverse attorneys will advise their clients?

  39. makes perfect sense...i've been saying all along that if you are under 60 and no underlying conditions, you need to be out and about. open up stores, open up everything. people need to make a living to survive. if you aren't comfortable with it, don't go out. every store delivers nowadays. you could never leave your home and get everything you need. it's common sense....if you are at risk, don't go out, order everything to be delivered and protect yourself.

  43. no idea...it's a rock and a hard spot, but i just believe the individuals need the help, not the businesses. the businesses are much more profitable and should have cash if needed. most people have to live paycheck to paycheck and they need the money, not a business. i do believe that when one business fails, another one shows up. if the business is needed in the community, someone will take advantage of that and start another one. out on 380, it's funny how businesses close up, then quickly are replaced by the same type of business.

  44. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-pushes-forward-with-massive-coronavirus-relief-bill Are all areas open to relief? It will be interesting to see what gets passed Pelosi talking guaranteed minimum income. Ocasio-Cortez has called $2,000 in monthly reoccurring payments to all families, regardless of immigration status, and $1,000 per child, and also wants rent canceled during the time. Look this is a unrepresented event in our lifetimes, but you have to admit the Dems are looking at ways to get their socialist agenda implemented under the umbrella of virus relief.
