  1. I will be praying for him. At this point, it's all in God's hands. I will pray that God gives him the patience to endure. Once he is given that chance, I will pray that God elevates his performance to the level that we all know he has. I have never wanted a player to make it as badly as I want him to make it. Not just because he is Mean Green, but more so because I hate to see someone not given a chance because they do not fit in some box that others say he should fit in. I guess it's the Army side of me coming out. Our biggest military award winners were the smallest guys like SGT Alvin York and Audie Murphy. Physical size doesn't measure a man's courage, heart, and talent and Mason has all that in spades.

  2. Mason Fine was always going to be a long shot in the draft. His size is still an issue for everyone. UNT only failed him in that it couldn't get to bigger games against tougher competition where he could have more game tape against NFL talent. In the games against good and physical defenses, he struggled in the ways that concern the analysts: seeing the field, throwing under pressure, and making difficult throws (UAB, UTSA (with Davenport), Troy, Utah State, FAU). His best option was always getting a FA deal, and finding some place where there is a good culture of development. I mean, Kellen Moore had a bigger resume and more name recognition and also went undrafted.

  3. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2888825-undrafted-free-agents-2020-mason-fine-rumors-predictions-for-signed-players The 49ers could still be an option if they look to move on from third-string quarterback C.J. Beathard. Fine, who passed for 3,088 yards and 29 touchdowns last season with nine interceptions, is likely to get a look somewhere. Not over yet.

  4. Hey, how do you think King will do this year with the Hurricanes?

  5. Crazy someone gave me the laughing emoji in the draft thread for saying a lack of rookie mini camps would hurt him before the article. The lack of rookie mini camps (and teams signing a boatload of UDFA) absolutely hurts him. Rookie mini camp would have started in a week or two for most teams. Remember that we had six guys invited to NFL camps last season, six.

  6. After the meeting, I decided to step up my donation to around $750 because I realized how important it's needed right now. Hope to see some Mean Green football in the fall!

  7. Next time Mason goes somewhere for a height measurement, he needs to wear the T-Rex costume. Lesson learned.

  8. No speed. Did you see his 80 TD TD again the entire UTSA team. Did it pulling away. He is not the fastest in the league, but fast enough to play QB

  9. I will respectfully disagree. The pros are all about measurables. As noted above, Charlotte had three players selected and the QB from FIU was selected and they haven't had any success to speak of.

  10. I wish the XFL didn’t already fold bc he’d burn that league down too

  11. Never in a million years did I think that the NFL would not even give him an opportunity as a UDFA. Seth needs to be in the ear of every contact he has in the NFL. This is ridiculous.

  12. Didn’t 3 players from Charlotte get drafted?

  14. His point wasn't that he made a good run against a good defense, but the he wasn't caught by anyone on the defense. It was in regards to his speed. To be fair, that was a few leg "injuries" and pounds ago. He's probably a little slower.

  15. UNT failed Mason! How many schools had faith in him? You can blame anyone you want. The fault lies with the tape measure.

  16. That's a great story. I thought Mo and Zach were both in Benford's last class. Guess I was off a year. I hope Wise develops and am looking forward to the HS'ers in this class.

  17. I have to agree. Also, I think he's mentioned interest in being a leader in the Cherokee Nation (which has the most citizens of any tribal government in the U.S.). Heck, he could probably be a senator or governor of the State of Oklahoma, and do a great job. Whatever path he chooses, I think he will be at the top level among his peers. The guy is 10 feet tall to me.

  18. Cody Spencer I think? In the early 2000s.

  19. What nobody mentions about Fine is just how much he was pounded on in his time here. It wasn't like he ever played behind much of a line and he took more hits than anyone at QB here since Gio Vizza in his one season that he played on the concrete field of Fouts. Fine is tough as nails. Dude will be ok, whether its as a pro somewhere at some level, or as a coach. He's someone that just doesn't fit the NFL's mold.

  20. I mean, it's the unpopular opinion as everyone likes to say loyalty is all that matters. But if I had a "chance" at millions and lost it because of my loyalty, that loyalty isn't going to keep me warm at night.

  21. I hope so, since he can’t spell Tarleton

  22. Simply put, we have guys like Mason that outperform their ratings and their measurables. That isn’t what the NFL is really looking for when there are 100s of successful players that do have the measurable qualities they seek. That doesn’t mean the NFL is correct, but it is the truth.

  23. Makes sense. Honestly, my take is that after the fifth round they might be better off not getting drafted. They now have options and are able to pick a situation that fits them best. Best of luck to Hamilton, Fine and Woodworth. Wonder if Lawrence signs anywhere?

  24. I am ok with that as well, but I am a fan of redshirting freshman. I’m actually surprised Mac has done this every season he has been here (had someone redshirted). I would be all for redshirting 2 freshman every year if we could.

  26. Here’s the other thing.. I truly believe if Mason was legitimately the 5’11” they generously list him as, he gets drafted.

  27. To clarify, Wren said that he is aware that fans of teams that had left the Sun Belt may see merging with Sun Belt teams as a step back. He didn’t say he personally thought it would be beneath UNT. He was speaking of fan perception.

  28. I attended. Here are a few things I recall: - Football schedule is definitely being impacted. Teams are looking to make all non-conference games within driving distance. - Need MGSF donors now more than ever. - Coach McCasland walked through the day that the conference tournament and NCAA tournament were both cancelled. - Some capital projects will be delayed. - Some TV deals for the upcoming football season are starting to take shape, including with Stadium and CBS Sports Network. - Don’t expect the football season to be shortened, but could be delayed. - If football season were to be cancelled, season ticket holders would get a refund. - Doesn’t expect a massive conference realignment by geography. - if there were to be any conference realignment, Wren recognizes that joining with SunBelt teams would be seen as a step back. Would rather look to AAC teams. - McCasland had a date night on the back porch where their kids made and served dinner to him and his wife. He had the kids clean up as well. - 90+ people on the Zoom call. - Replayed “The Drive” clip from the win in the final seconds against UTSA a few years back. - Wren is having better attendance at his staff meetings through Zoom than he was having when they were in person. - They miss seeing the student athletes and supporters in person. - Basketball recruits are quickly getting to know each other online. - Giving guidance to basketball players for staying in shape during the pandemic, but available resources vary from player to player. - Someone in the basketball “family” has the virus and is struggling with it. Not a player. - We are in a better position to make it through the pandemic than many other G5 athletic programs.

  29. I will stand by opinion that he was left out there for stats many times with the game decided and got crushed for it. I think the injuries took a toll and he was a shell of himself his senior year.

  30. From the daily howtogeek.com email I receive: Did You Know? Night vision goggles have a green display because the human eye can distinguish between more shades of green than any other color. ...which somewhat explains why it's so difficult to get the right shade of green when buying NT gear... I wonder - if the lights at Apogee were turned off during a night game, what would someone with night vision goggles see? 😀

  39. According to a quote by Mason, "I am 5'10 and 3/4" tall." Now who wants to quibble over 1/4" with that much at stake? By the way, James Morgan, the FIU quarterback who was drafted in the 5th? round, was tenth in CUSA quarterback ratings. But...he is 6-4.

  40. Also, our program has not had enough sustained success for scouts to trust our players. Of course, first round draft picks are first round draft picks, but sustained success is a big deal at the G5 level.

  43. Totally agree with you regarding leaving Fine in games that were already decided. Would have been nice to see some of our backups getting quality time. I'm thinking Seth left Fine in to benefit Seth. Let us not forget the "Fine for Heisman" campaign, and the previous Kansas State adventure. And the fact that prior to the New Mexico Bowl, Seth was smoozing up in New York. Shouldn't he have been with the team practicing?

  45. What makes you say that? I think we are jumping to a lot of conclusions especially after Baker mentioned we are positioned well. It will be important for all of us to give whatever we are able to give to the MGSF.
