Weird... what can't that damn mainstream media do? In times like this, it's always a good and useful exercise to check the receipts. How did GMG.com think the media was doing a month ago? ED NOTE: Oh no. Did they lose their retainer yet? They blowed it all weird I guess. Well, we got a tiger thing. That's fun. Carole Baskins...amirite or what? Then, Billy made a very prescient point. Just look at the huge tonal shifts we've seen from some of the leading posters on this thread! This is clearly no ebola - let them all play! We've come a long way since lock up your sick and olds, wash your hands and wipe down the elliptical. But in the end, as always, it was Judy McLeod's fault.4 points

First detected case. So the travel ban from China wasn't a directive (which by the way is a major reason why we're just now seeing this pop up in the US). The fact of the matter is NYC leadership did not act quickly enough and did not take it seriously enough even as late as early March when De Blasio was telling people to go about their normal lives and that everything was fine. But they aren't the main people to blame, though if they had acted sooner NYC could have mitigated some of this. The entire world underestimated this because the Chinese Communist Party lied to the entire world about their numbers. They are to blame for the whole world's lack of preparedness for this severity of this virus.4 points

Why is this no biggy when you were panicky about every single Ebola headline? Is it really just as simple as who the president is?3 points

Which proves social distancing measures are working, so we should keep them going for awhile. I'm still quite concerned about a second wave hitting in a few months, when people aren't gonna be willing to go through these sorts of measures again, so we need to make sure this wave is as small as possible. The place where I really think this may hit hard is India. We probably won't now the numbers of dead for years. The H1N1 pandemic hit there really bad ten years ago and it was about 2-3 years before they had a good idea how many were killed there from it.3 points

Yeah weird And new to me too. would like to see him brag about his new Mean Green family. Start retweeting the coaches and interacting with your fellow class commits. Maybe he will do that.3 points

I didn't vote either way on the post in question, but I would say that people probably were not responding to "facts" with their votes. It comes across as nothing more than an anti-Trump diatribe which, to be honest, doesn't help and undermines whatever message the author attempted to get across. We get it by now. There are some people that love Trump and will defend anything he says or does. There are also people who despise Trump and will attack him for anything he says or does. Quite frankly it's tiresome. Initially, I was going to try and intersperse some other "facts" in the timeline, but in the end decided it was better to just ignore it all together.3 points

Huge commit! Picked us over some high majors. Can play the 3 or the 4 for us2 points

Social distancing was incredibly effective in cities that did it during the 1918 pandemic. So I'd say it definitely brought down deaths in those cities that heavily instituted it then.2 points

Both are apparently very contagious. Ebola, however, has a much higher mortality rate if you get it (up to 90% in some past outbreaks, but averages around 50% - incredibly high) and it has nothing to do with being in a high risk category. If you get it, you have a good chance of dying. We won't know the total mortality rate of COVID-19 for some time, but it seems to be very dangerous to certain segments of the population rather than anyone who is infected. The only good thing about Ebola is it tends to kill whoever it infects way before they have had an opportunity to infect a lot of other people so it "dies out" faster. Edit: I should have added that Ebola seems to be about as close to a death sentence as you can get in the medical profession for the doctors, nurses, first responders and other medical staff that put their personal fears and anxieties aside and treat and care for Ebola patients.2 points

NO! You give your word as a commitment, and you should immediately bleed Mean Green like the rest of us!!!1!1!! Unless the ones changing their minds are ballers who were previously committed to other schools, changing their minds to North Texas. In that case, they made a wise choice!2 points

Listen men, Coach executed in the speaking and reading phases... not all 3 phases of speech presentation. Those kinds of mistakes are hard to overcome, but he found a way to say the right words when he needed to. He's gotta take accountability for it, watch the film, and find ways to improve. At the end of the day though, it comes down to getting the point across, and he did that. He'll celebrate it tonight, then get back to the grind tomorrow. 1,2,3, MeanGreenFamily!2 points

Of course, since you're the Chief of Police of Argyle, if you could get your hands on some fabric with the official UNT tartan, you could supply your entire department.1 point

Governments are definitely not the only to blame. How in the world in our information superhighway did a governor just this last week learn that the virus can spread through asymptomatic people? This isn't the only pandemic in our lifetime, so why are we acting like we had no idea what to do? Why do people tend to not take things seriously unless the problem knocks on their front door? Complacency, laziness, ignorance....existed in nearly every facet: media, experts, society, etc... There are tons of issues revealing themselves here, and it's not just political problems at the top. These next two weeks will tell us so much. Hopefully we will be on the other side of this together with good news.1 point

Yes, they all have a cabal that meets regularly to determine the best methods to keep NT in place. No, I do not believe for one second that facilities have anything to do with NT not moving up. No one gives a ' damn, what your volleyball or swimming facilities are. Apogee and the Super Pit are fine You do realize that you can make reported budget numbers look about any way you want them. Allocate more cost to the athletic department than make institutional transfers to cover the expense. Not one cent is actually spent. What is holding NT back is not facilities or money. It is timing, NT went for decades funding athletics just enough to have a D1 program and for a long period did not even do that. The current NT has moved up substantially in terms of support and could easily fit in any G5 league.1 point

I am not a particular Trump fan, but some of you are ridiculous. This virus hit fast and was largely an unknown. The President can get blamed for about anything that happens in the USA or to Americans. If Trump had shut down everything and stopped the coronavirus from spreading, he would have been blamed for foolishly shutting down the country Let's all make political points in this time of crisis because that is really what the nation needs more of.1 point

Well, I renewed both my season tickets and made my MGSF donation, but don't think there will be a season, and even if there is at 77years old if Virus is still around this fall I won't attend games.1 point

I will always call them out on their loyalty. I was even a bit miffed at Woolridge, but his is more understandable and with time I realized that. This is just an entirely absurd situation if he is leaving to play point guard (which he can’t play well) and to reach the nba (which he will never do). In fact it’s a disservice to Mo for anyone to propose this to him or back him in this endeavor. At this point (like a few players on the team) I wouldn’t want him back because he put his ego (which is incredibly misplaced) above the team. I believe loyalty is of the upmost importance and in sports almost always falls on the players. Don’t get me started on watching Jordan in a Wizards jersey or Patrick in a Magic Jersey. 😡1 point

I'm done wit this thread. You guys keep on keeping on with downplaying it. Hopefully the rest of us that do take it seriously can keep flatten the curve and then when it isn't a deadly as predicted, then you can glibly do your victory dance about how right you were.. completely ignoring the irony. Peace out. To the original question about had it affected anyone we know - that lady who died in Lewisville to days ago? My good friend's mother in law's friend. But she deserved to die, because she was old with a compromised immunity.. great.1 point

As Echoed by others, our thoughts and prayers go out to your family along with your cousin's family as well. To most Covid 19 resembles the flu in many ways, so great majority of infected patients will recover. To the old, folks with Diabetes, lung, heart or other issues it's very serious. The world lost the world's number 1 conjoined twin surgeon to Covid-19 yesterday. The doctor was 73 Yrs. old.1 point
