This kid is GREAT! I met him while he was touring UNT with hid dad. Houston was completely geared up with UNT apparel and had just been offered the position with athletics. He even told me about how the Mean Green name was born...and how incredible of a QB Mason Fine was,and he was sad he never got to see him at Apogee. I look forward to the work Houston will put out for the Mean Green in the coming years, and glad to see the passion and fire future alumni will have for THEIR alma mater! GMG5 points

Please stop spreading misinformation “COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.” https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses https://www.who.int/china/news/detail/09-01-2020-who-statement-regarding-cluster-of-pneumonia-cases-in-wuhan-china4 points

Well, they are playing golf, so we can follow Munoz and Ortiz Round 1: Ortiz is T125 finishing at +3 after an up and down round that had him at +6 at one point. He will need to go low tomorrow to make the cut. Munoz is T61 at -1 through 16 holes. He was at -3 but bogeyed three in a row and then birdie #7, his 16th hole of the day, to get back to -1.4 points

@BillySee58 after watching Macs video, it dawned on me that this NCAA cancellation really dampens the positive momentum a postseason appearance would have established in recruiting. i don’t think it complete negates the successes we enjoyed but, man! a TV appearance - especially with an upset or strong showing - creates an extra buzz about the program that we are now not gonna get.4 points

DRC: All DRC stories on the coronavirus are free to read as a public service during the outbreak https://dentonrc.com/sports/north-texas-ncaa-tournament-hopes-dashed-as-event-called-off/article_17ecfac0-293e-5efc-ad3d-ffbfcc3fd0f2.html4 points

Hey @Brett Vito maybe you could put a paragraph about Covid19 in every story so they could all be free for a while. Just a thought!4 points

Since there is no CUSA Tournament and no NCAA berth waiting as a prize as a reward for the winner of the tournament, what should be done to properly recognize the 2019-2020 North Texas Men's Basketball team ? Rings for sure, but there needs to be something more public. Some sort of ceremony at the Coliseum ? An expanded Basketball Banquet ? A special plaque at the Coliseum or additional banner (additional to the conference banner) in the rafters ? Maybe an event and invite the entire conference for an event in the Indoor Practice Facility ? I hate for BB season to end this way. Start thinking. GO MEAN GREEN3 points

Due to the University being “closed” to students through March 22nd, the KICKBALL CLASSIC has been moved to our backup date of Sunday, March 29th at 11:00 am...same place...UNT Softball field. Sorry to have to make this announcement, but really had no choice. If anyone has any questions, post them here and I’ll do my best to answer or send me a PM. Hopefully, everyone can still participate in the 29th...let me know if you have questions.3 points

You know what feels great? Being able to trust that Wren will find the appropriate way to celebrate the team's accomplishment - both in the near term and beyond.3 points

Munoz birdies #9, his 18th, and finishes Round One T36 at -2. Could have easily been -5 or -6, but he is in a good spot with an early tee time tomorrow.3 points

https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/Article/North-Texas-Mean-Green-basketball-How-a-shortened-season-leaves-a-lasting-legacy-144969734/ After practice ended, players returned to their phones, probably to reply to the tons of missed calls or texts since the news broke, but after that they got on Twitter and Instagram. One by one, they posted paragraphs of gratitude with photos of them celebrating and playing this season.2 points

I do not know DJ except for his performance on the court. But if I were to guess, DJ Draper is anxious to get on with the success that will surely be his in life after basketball. GO MEAN GREEN2 points

My understanding is that this is the case for the pro leagues, a suspension rather than a cancellation. But I can understand why the NCAA would cancel rather than suspend, due to the players also being students, adding to the scheduling issues for classes as well as games.2 points

We should do both banners...the team earned it and it should be celebrated.2 points

Not so fast... Do not be surprised to see the NCAA offer a waiver for an extra year for Seniors if they choose to use it2 points

Too bad they took even this away. Seriously, without spectators golf HAS to be the best sport in terms of social distancing. Absolutely zero sports to watch, all while lots of people stuck at home... Must be great times for the porn industry.2 points

Ryan, like a lot of grad transfers, was probably hoping for a chance at the Big Dance. The entire country is being affected by this. I hope you're not trying to pick on a former Mean Green just because he tweeted about it.2 points

More attend our Spring Game than were attending Ivy League softball games (Columbia with 48 on average) and yet the Ivy League canceled the remainder of the season before it hardly even got started. So I could see the spring game getting canceled. As of now spring practice has been moved back a week. Hopefully as it continues to get warmer things go back to normal. Rick2 points

Don’t discount what Jackson and Wise will bring to the table. Jackson may be the best on ball defender and I think Wise can provide 10 points a night. Rubin Jones looks like a shooter as well. My hope would be for a stretch 4 who can rebound and knock down 15-18 footers, and then a guard who is 6’5” or better with an ability to get to the rim (or the line if that doesn’t work).2 points

My two requests would be: 1. An athletic big to replace Deng. 2. A scorer off the bench that has the range and accuracy to replace DJ, but with the ability to score taking it to the hole if needed.2 points

Rings and a banner, for sure. Maybe even an NCAA Tournament banner, since we made the tournament. I like the idea of a gathering in the IPF to celebrate the team. My 1988 Southland Conf. Championship ring has SLC champs on one side and NCAA logo on the other....perhaps their rings should have both, too.1 point

Yes he is sadly. They will be good next year too with an incoming 4-5 star recruit. Itll be us and WKU and Charlotte at the top1 point

If we want into the American Conference, we need to act like we belong. So in the finest UCF and SMU traditions, NATIONAL CHAMPS!!!! WOOOOO!!!!1 point

Is it just me or does it seem UNT is cursed in athletics? 10 years since we made the NCAA's and now we have a shot and it is cancelled due to an overhyped virus?1 point

No science that I’m aware of yet to indicate that. Other Coronaviruses are NOT affected by heat (MERS, for example). It’s too early to tell about this particular virus, but we shouldn’t count on summer to help us.1 point

Meh, it’s a bit of both. Both extremes are silly. COVID-19 is much more lethal than the usual seasonal flu, but the ‘cancel everything so it looks like are are doing something’ is also silly. It looks like you mostly catch this disease from breathing, unless you’re planning on stopping that you are kind of hosed. We really can’t shut down everything everywhere for months or years until a vaccine is tested and ready. COVID-19 will likely get worse in terms of death totals. It’s scary because it’s so new, but it’s possible that this could end up killing less people than other causes of death this year. Much as in a wilderness survival situation panic kills more than the elements, even if the elements claim their share. Obviously if you are personally affected it feels worse, much like a highway fatality is worse if you know the dead than it is for those just stuck in traffic. Don't freak out and fight over TP, stay away from others as much as practical if you’re ill and stay away from both extremes (sky is falling and nothing is happening).1 point

It is actually extremely deadly to the elderly. Maybe ten to fifteen times more so than regular influenza. I just think it'd be easier to quarantine folks over 80 than it would be to shut down the entire country.1 point
