  1. Back in the 90s and early 2000s when I went to a lot of away games I would meet those home fans and pick their brains about giving back to their university. The overwhelming sentiment of those under 30 (and maybe even 35) was hell no. Especially Sun Belt schools but even at places like LSU and OU most younger alumni laughed at giving money to the school they just shelled out a lot of money to. I would think with how much tuition is today, that sentiment is even stronger. Not everybody is rah rah about their school, they just want the piece of paper and to be done with it. I work with a mid-forties guy who went to Idaho and follows Idaho sports. When he found out I donated money to UNT he kept asking me why and what for. To him, only rich people with extra money give to universities. He doesn't even make that connection to donate to Idaho. Good news is the school is reaching out to people. They can't say no if you don't ask.

  4. We had 8 days off before the UTA game, which we won by 11 on the road. We had 10 days off before the Dayton game and we lost by 13. Which probably had more to do with them being the #5 team in the country. No one in the A-10 has played them closer than 13 at their stadium either. We had 7 days off before beating Texas Wesleyan by 38. Then the Rice loss. Which they had the same layoff, as will La Tech. I think people are making way too big a deal out of the layoff before the Rice game. We had a 4 or 5 point lead in the second half and we blew it. They hardly missed the last 8 minutes or so. Rust makes a little more sense of slow starts, but not as much with blowing leads in the second half.

  5. Can't disagree at all. This is the 98% flexing their apathetic muscle here. Our future fandom is going to be built on folks who graduated from 2000 and on. We absolutely nuked the alums/potential fans who cared or could've cared about athletics when we gave up and stayed at 1-aa for 12 years. We literally gifted the big state power schools around here even more t-shirt fans than they already had for anyone who cared about sports and spent any time at UNT from about 1970-1999.

  9. Just as an FYI for those who are unaware of Reddit. I think it's pretty telling when someone posts something like this and nobody disagrees. Until the general sentiment of this changes, it's going to be hard to reach the top of the foodchain of G5, let alone anything higher.

  10. I think it speaks more to the individual and I stress individual that posted than anything else. How many did donate and happy to do it? It is always a minority that contributes! In the past colleges with law and Med schools got most of the big bucks donation. Today it is tech entrepreneurs! Our future is bright and the explosive growth of Denton county only makes it stronger! GMG

  11. Rick Gosselin knows what he is talking about! If any team took a shot on Mason Fine, I would wager they would be most happy that they did so.

  12. This rule would greatly benefit the better teams and will decimate lower tier teams. Fine would likely have been gone after one year at NT. The argument that it currently works at non-revenue sports is misleading. Schools do lose players in these sports frequently to more successful programs. Even though there is nothing close to the competition for players that occurs in football and basketball. Just another change that will decrease competition at all levels.

  13. Very bad for UNT. Any good player like Woolroige will transfer out after a good year.

  20. I have mixed feelings about this. I mean it’s like free agency in the NFL kinda, but also if they really like what’s going on at the university then why leave. I just feel that it would ruin the G5

  22. sure...but the politicians themselves really only share in the blame...we've allowed this system to exist and the narrowing of wealth to the top has only exacerbated it and ensured any push back to the center will be extreme, painful and difficult. if someone offered you 5-6 figures to talk for an hour about The Stand against Rice, I doubt you'd pass on principle.

  23. Realistically : 4-0 Most likely: 3-1 The road games worry me more than the home games because both of the team we play on the road (FIU and Charlotte) are terrific at home

  24. I would prefer the NCAA, but love the fact that we could go NIT as well. My problem with the NIT is that nobody remembers who won it. Then again, the CBI run was great for our fans, so who knows. Let's first win the regular season, then win the conference tournament, but as @greenminer stated, let's win the one in front of us and the let the chips fall.

  25. If I'm looking at it correctly, I think we're assured at least top 4 seed which means we've earned a 1st round by no matter what. We have 2 losses. Even if we lost 4 games we'd end at 6 losses. Charlotte and FIU both have 6 losses but they can't both win all four of their games since they play each other. One of them will end with 7 losses so we are for sure top 4.

  26. For me the important accomplishment is playing in a tournament where we don’t have to pay to enter. NIT does that and still has some prestige.

  27. https://www.espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/28724972/acc-student-athletes-allowed-one-transfer-exemption Just read this short article about how the ACC has unanimously decided to join the Big Ten in wanting to allow all student athletes to transfer once without having to sit out a year. With 2 of the Power 5 conferences on board it seems like this will likely be a change that's made within the next few years. I can see this being both good and bad for a school like UNT, thoughts?

  28. Young Alumns are tight with their money nowadays. If college wouldn’t charge an arm and leg, we wouldn’t have to ask these young alumni to shell out money while they have 30 to 50 thousand in student loan debt. I remember one year after I graduated back in 2009, UNT was calling asking me for donations to get better math teachers? I was like wtf?

  33. Wrong. I voted for him in the last election because of policy position and because of the person he was running against. I vote based on policy. The Democratic Party is sliding towards socialism, the current leader, before the DNC ruins him again, is Bernie Sanders a devotee of socialism and communism. The leading voices in the party Pelosi, Schumer, Waters, AOC, etc... are either hate filled, flat out liars or have supported what Trump supported in the past, yet flip flopped for party reasons and have no backbone. I look at the areas they are currently responsible for and they are a total disaster. I look at the countries that have socialist governments, government run healthcare, etc... on a similar scale of the U.S. and see these are a complete disaster. I see the Democrats preaching tolerance, acceptance and love for all yet their actions show a complete opposite. I don't condone Trump's past relationships or how he treated women and I can see through his hot air, but when people make a quote like the one above and then have nothing but glowing words for the likes of JFK, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, etc... they lose me. Or when they jump on board with Bernie who has never passed a single piece of useful legislation and who railed against millionaires four years ago but has now bumped that to billionaires because he is now worth millions by leaching off of the public. Who champions a form of government that is against our Constitution and is shown to have failed worldwide unless you are in a position of power. Or the people that jumped on the Beto bandwagon when he preached the same system yet has never, ever been an effective legislator, was disliked by those he represented and couldn't even win a Senate seat at the state level. Or Mayor Pete who is now the current darling of the party yet the town he is mayor of is falling apart and has multiple issues. As someone noted above, there isn't a perfect person walking the face of the earth but don't come on here criticizing one's shortcomings while ignoring another's.

  37. Nope. All politicians, regardless of level, build personal wealth, all the while under the guise of helping all citizens of our country. Assuming the deal was made and the price is correct, how was Obama able to buy a $14.85 mil dollar home in Martha’s Vineyard? Did some supporter give him that money? How did he build that kind of wealth? I’m dumb. Someone clue me in.

  38. Using every lesson taught to you as a child as a measuring stick, yes Trump is a terrible person. We can go through all of the examples but you know them. If you vote for him you just don’t care that he is a terrible person.

  39. If honesty or morality matters to you ... he is terrible . It seems everything is entirely about him (ego, arrogant) ... not about America or anyone else. Also no one else has used their entire family run things like a royal family.. Ever wonder why so many of his original staff are long gone (unlike other administrations) ... quit or fired

  41. There is a difference is social services, public school, public services, Social Security, and socialism where the government taxes at a high rate and promises all of these services in return. How many socialist countries thrive? Hell, we live in the greatest country in the world yet our government fails at providing minimal services and the Democrats want to expand that? Medicare for all is a financial boondoggle. The government runs Social Security, the postal service, the VA, and Amtrak for instance. Which one of those is run well and successful?

  43. Democrat socialists make their living sowing fear and loathing to those who may believe it. Rarely do they offer any realistic, real life solutions to law abiding, working, tax paying Americans. It's been their trademark for over 50 years.
