Back in the 90s and early 2000s when I went to a lot of away games I would meet those home fans and pick their brains about giving back to their university. The overwhelming sentiment of those under 30 (and maybe even 35) was hell no. Especially Sun Belt schools but even at places like LSU and OU most younger alumni laughed at giving money to the school they just shelled out a lot of money to. I would think with how much tuition is today, that sentiment is even stronger. Not everybody is rah rah about their school, they just want the piece of paper and to be done with it. I work with a mid-forties guy who went to Idaho and follows Idaho sports. When he found out I donated money to UNT he kept asking me why and what for. To him, only rich people with extra money give to universities. He doesn't even make that connection to donate to Idaho. Good news is the school is reaching out to people. They can't say no if you don't ask.8 points

We had 8 days off before the UTA game, which we won by 11 on the road. We had 10 days off before the Dayton game and we lost by 13. Which probably had more to do with them being the #5 team in the country. No one in the A-10 has played them closer than 13 at their stadium either. We had 7 days off before beating Texas Wesleyan by 38. Then the Rice loss. Which they had the same layoff, as will La Tech. I think people are making way too big a deal out of the layoff before the Rice game. We had a 4 or 5 point lead in the second half and we blew it. They hardly missed the last 8 minutes or so. Rust makes a little more sense of slow starts, but not as much with blowing leads in the second half.5 points

Can't disagree at all. This is the 98% flexing their apathetic muscle here. Our future fandom is going to be built on folks who graduated from 2000 and on. We absolutely nuked the alums/potential fans who cared or could've cared about athletics when we gave up and stayed at 1-aa for 12 years. We literally gifted the big state power schools around here even more t-shirt fans than they already had for anyone who cared about sports and spent any time at UNT from about 1970-1999.4 points

Greatness! So glad I was able to watch him play and compete! Thank you Mr Fine! GMG4 points

Just as an FYI for those who are unaware of Reddit. I think it's pretty telling when someone posts something like this and nobody disagrees. Until the general sentiment of this changes, it's going to be hard to reach the top of the foodchain of G5, let alone anything higher.3 points

I think it speaks more to the individual and I stress individual that posted than anything else. How many did donate and happy to do it? It is always a minority that contributes! In the past colleges with law and Med schools got most of the big bucks donation. Today it is tech entrepreneurs! Our future is bright and the explosive growth of Denton county only makes it stronger! GMG3 points

Rick Gosselin knows what he is talking about! If any team took a shot on Mason Fine, I would wager they would be most happy that they did so.3 points

This rule would greatly benefit the better teams and will decimate lower tier teams. Fine would likely have been gone after one year at NT. The argument that it currently works at non-revenue sports is misleading. Schools do lose players in these sports frequently to more successful programs. Even though there is nothing close to the competition for players that occurs in football and basketball. Just another change that will decrease competition at all levels.3 points

Very bad for UNT. Any good player like Woolroige will transfer out after a good year.3 points

We MUST beat La Tech and WKU, right. Both have been a thorn in our quest for championships in FB and BB for years.3 points

The ladies go up against a machine tonight. tU is 10-0 and has been drilling just about everyone. We need our bats to come alive early and give our pitching some supportive energy. Rick2 points

Classic!!! And at every party you get a free copy of "The Government officials guide to insider trading" (This book is the only example in Washington were Republicans and Democrats have shown were they are willing to work together and set their differences aside).2 points

Why does team rankings still have LT with a much bigger chance to make the tournament than us??2 points

I have mixed feelings about this. I mean it’s like free agency in the NFL kinda, but also if they really like what’s going on at the university then why leave. I just feel that it would ruin the G52 points

sure...but the politicians themselves really only share in the blame...we've allowed this system to exist and the narrowing of wealth to the top has only exacerbated it and ensured any push back to the center will be extreme, painful and difficult. if someone offered you 5-6 figures to talk for an hour about The Stand against Rice, I doubt you'd pass on principle.2 points

Realistically : 4-0 Most likely: 3-1 The road games worry me more than the home games because both of the team we play on the road (FIU and Charlotte) are terrific at home2 points

I would prefer the NCAA, but love the fact that we could go NIT as well. My problem with the NIT is that nobody remembers who won it. Then again, the CBI run was great for our fans, so who knows. Let's first win the regular season, then win the conference tournament, but as @greenminer stated, let's win the one in front of us and the let the chips fall.2 points

If I'm looking at it correctly, I think we're assured at least top 4 seed which means we've earned a 1st round by no matter what. We have 2 losses. Even if we lost 4 games we'd end at 6 losses. Charlotte and FIU both have 6 losses but they can't both win all four of their games since they play each other. One of them will end with 7 losses so we are for sure top 4.2 points

For me the important accomplishment is playing in a tournament where we don’t have to pay to enter. NIT does that and still has some prestige.2 points

Came across these designs posted on the Sportslogos.net concepts forum by someone who appears to be a high schooler who's considering NT on the Sportslogos.net concepts forum. It's the off-season, after all... Link: https://boards.sportslogos.net/topic/121395-unt-football/ Looks like a pretty solid blend of traditional and progressive.1 point

Nah. There's a perfectly good explanation. How would you like to own your own business & earn money working from home while throwing lots of parties with your friends like the Obamas? Did you know there are better alternatives to home fragrance than lighting dangerous candles? If so, you could partner with Barack & Michelle and make Millions selling Scentsy!1 point

Since he didn't get the combine invite, it means he's not really being seriously considered by many, if any, teams. He's going to need to wow at the NT Pro Day (which we all know he will). He should have a pretty nice audience there because scouts will want to see Hambone (who did get a combine invite), and will likely have a note to check him out too.1 point

IMO, the oddest question in postseason sports. How about this: I would like to win every game directly in front of us. I'll take whatever comes our way.1 point

Oh, I'm all for that. Get in. Do what you say you're going to do, then get out. Get some kind of benefit for your brief time serving, like maybe healthcare or some kind of small pension.1 point

Sadly it does not seem likely anytime soon. My best guess to get back to civility- term limits.1 point

I disagree. Win the regular season and get the guaranteed NIT, NCAAs would be gravy. Plus if we are the number one seed and win the conference tournament there is a better chance of a more favorable seed.1 point

That's a big step up--it sounds like she'll basically be handling Luke Walerius's responsibilities there.1 point

To treat an accusation and a conviction in the same manner is counter to the judicial system but understandable in today’s social media “pile on” culture.1 point

I don't have a problem with the NT Daily article per se--it seems unbiased and fair, giving Wren a chance to respond to the (evidently) false and (clearly) misleading statements made by the USA Today writer. That's the article I have a huge problem with.1 point

The leaders in the party sow that fear. AOC and her bunch, Warren, Sanders, etc... The funny thing about Sanders is that he had millionaires in his cross hairs four years ago. Now that he's a millionaire he's up it to billionaires. Speaking of Sanders, he is a prime example of who socialism benefits. He has never passed a meaningful peace of legislation, yet here he, a millionaire by living off of the public's dime. Before you form your rebuttal, remember that he is a devoted communist.1 point

I don’t understand why the author attempted to compare the left’s CONSTANT message of doom and gloom to the right’s celebration of the current economic prosperity. The guy must not have seen a single campaign speech by any of the democrat candidates currently running for president.....or watched a minute of President Trumps state of the union night. You cannot find two more differing realities. Rick1 point
