  4. His bio spells out one of the more impressive recruiting careers I have seen: At FAU Eric Mathies joined the Florida Atlantic staff in January 2017 and quickly immersed himself in the recruiting process. That immersion paid off with the elevation from defensive line coach to recruiting coordinator by spring’s end. His next task was evaluating and developing a line that had flourished behind the 2016 Conference USA Defensive Player of the year and New Orleans Saints draftee Trey Hendrickson. Mathies established a line and a rotation that played off the cover skills of the defensive backs and contained C-USA’s running quarterbacks. His unit was an integral in the Owls climbing to a national rank of No. 24 in sacks, a 57-spot improvement from the previous season. The unit’s work paid off with each starter on the Owls’ line earning Conference USA Honorable Mention recognition. Both ends in Hunter Snyder and freshman Leighton McCarthy were honored, while on the inside junior Steven Leggett and graduate transfer Jeremiah Taleni were also recognized. The quartet tallied 17 of the team’s 38 sacks, while the line’s No. 2’s added another 10.5. At USF Mathies joined the University of South Florida football staff as defensive line coach in January of 2013 and added the duties of recruiting coordinator to his plate in 2016. He brought 15 years of collegiate coaching experience to USF, also having served as an assistant coach at Western Kentucky, Tennessee State and Midwestern (Texas) State. Mathies helped guide USF’s defensive end Eric Lee to Second Team All-American Athletic Conference honors in 2015 as Lee led the Bulls with 12.0 tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. USF ranked No. 13 nationally in tackles for loss (7.5 per game), led the AAC while ranking No. 26 nationally in sacks (2.62/pg), and was third in the conference and No. 31 nationally against the run (141.4/pg). In his first season at USF, Mathies guided a strong defensive line that helped the Bulls earn a No. 12 FBS rank in 7.6 tackles for loss per game and No. 21 rank in total defense allowing 350.8 yards per game while nearly tripling the forced turnovers from nine the previous season to 25 and scoring three defensive touchdowns. Mathies helped guide sophomore defensive end Aaron Lynch to First Team All-AAC honors, after leading the team with 12.5 tackles for loss and six sacks, and senior defensive tackle Luke Sager to Second Team honors after a career-best 11.5 tackles for loss. At WKU Prior to coming to USF, Mathies coached the defensive line for eight seasons at WKU and served as recruiting coordinator for three seasons. He joined the WKU staff in 2005, and when Willie Taggart took over the Hilltoppers in 2010, Mathies added the title of recruiting coordinator. As recruiting coordinator, Mathies helped produce the top recruiting class in the Sun Belt Conference in both 2010 and 2011, and the league’s second-ranked class in 2012, according to Rivals.com. Rivals and Scout also recognized Mathies as the Sun Belt Recruiter of the Year, while Scout named him one of the top recruiters in the nation following the 2010 season. While coaching the defensive line, Mathies mentored Quanterus Smith, who earned All-America honors from both SI.com and Phil Steele after the 2012 season. Smith was named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year after totaling 12.5 sacks, which ranked third nationally. As a whole, the WKU defense led the conference in sacks, TFL, total defense, rushing defense and pass efficiency defense in 2012. At Tennessee State Mathies coached two seasons at Tennessee State, where he worked with defensive tackles in addition to handling recruiting responsibilities. At Midwestern State Prior to working at TSU, he was the defensive line coach at Midwestern (Texas) State, where he was also the strength and conditioning coach, in addition to handling recruiting duties. At Murray High School He got his start in coaching at Murray High School in 1998, helping the Tigers to a 7-4 mark as they advanced to the second round of the Kentucky state playoffs. Dallas Cowboys Mathies served an internship with the Dallas Cowboys in 2007. Collegiate Playing Career Mathies, who earned his bachelor's degree from Murray State in 1998, was a four-year letterwinner in football. He began his career at Kansas before transferring to Murray State. A defensive lineman, he helped the Racers to a pair of Ohio Valley Conference championships as MSU qualified for the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs in both 1995 and '96. Personal Born: October 29, 1975 Hometown: Chicago, Ill. 8. https://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/forum/4-mean-green-football/?do=add With a revamped coaching staff and one of the best recruiting classes in the group of five ranks, brighter pastures appear to be on the horizon to get the Mean Green back on track to a championship contender and an annual bowl-eligible team.

  11. From the article (my favorite in this class) TE, Christian Lee (6’3, 215)3-Star, FriendswoodLee is ranked as the No. 214 player in the state of Texas and he No. 77 tight end in the nation according to 247sports.com. In 2019, Lee joined the First Team All-District selection after being on the second team in 2018. During his senior season, Lee brought in 51 receptions for 723 yards and five touchdowns. Lee also accounted for 71 rushing yards on nine carries and two rushing touchdowns. Lee participated in the 2020 Blue-Grey All American Bowl. During his first full season as a tight end in 2018, Lee caught 37 passes for 569 yards and five touchdowns. Mean Green fans can expect to see a lot of receptions from this skilled tight end who could possibly double as a quarterback. Lee played quarterback until the end of his sophomore season in Friendswood. Lee chose North Texas over programs like Louisiana Tech, Texas State, Tulane, Fordham and Illinois State.

  13. Yep, as of late. Makes sense if you think about it. Why have a big scrimmage and then not be able to iron out the mistakes?

  14. The Mean Green wrapped up their 2020 recruiting class with a handful of signees that will be a great addition to their squad on Wednesday during National Signing Day. A majority of the 13 Texas area signatures came during the early signing period in December. With the 2020 recruitment period coming to a close, North Texas is looking ahead to what will hopefully be a better season than last year’s 4-8 (3-5) record. Here’s a look at the 13 natives who will be joining in the fall. OG, Kade Bond (6’3, 281) 3-Star, Magnolia Committing to North Texas in June, Bond sealed the deal in December with a signature. According to a 246sports.com composite, Bond is the No. 221 player in the state of Texas and the No . 94 offensive guard in the nation. Bond is a three-time First Team All-District athlete (’17, ’18, ’19) who helped anchor Magnolia’s O-Line for a gain of 2,921 rushing yards, 265.5 yards per game, and 24 rushing touchdowns in 2019. Bond is great at creating a pocket for his quarterback. We can expect to see great blocking coming from this 3-star recruit once he suits up. Bond chose to join the Mean Green squad over offers from five other schools including Texas State, New Mexico State, Louisiana-Monroe and more. read more: http://texashsfootball.com/mean-green-signees-a-look-at-seth-littrells-newest-in-state-athletes/

  18. For the first time all season for the games I’ve been able to attend I am sitting in a different seat as someone bought the seat I usually pick before I could. So if we lose it’s prob my fault. (Next year I’ll get season tickets so that doesn’t happen again!)

  23. If we finished the season undefeated at home and conference play we might actually have an argument for last four in... EMU and Rice really cost us. OU and WKU would have been decent resume builders.

  25. Winning at La Tech would probably be it other than CBI championship. La Tech had a 50s Net score and kenpom when we won there. That was a road win at a team in the upper 15% of D1 teams. In football, that would be a top 25 team (out of 135). I can't recall Seth ever being a team that high but obviously Arkansas was huge because its SEC.

  26. Democrat socialists make their living sowing fear and loathing to those who may believe it. Rarely do they offer any realistic, real life solutions to law abiding, working, tax paying Americans. It's been their trademark for over 50 years.

  33. Agree. Non power 5 would have to be 35 or higher to even have a shot at an at-large. I don't think winning out would move us quite that high.

He has 2 years to play but unsure if he has graduated and immediately eligible. Would really really love to kick the tires on him, he's an unbelievable athlete.

  38. Here's the situation: The DRC is printed by The Dallas Morning News. Up until the last few weeks, the DRC was among the last publications printed each day. The schedule has since been changed by the DMN. The DRC is now the first publication to go to press, ahead of USA Today, all editions of the DMN, The Wall Street Journal and everything else. That switch makes it impossible to get late sports in the printed version of the paper. We are still covering night events. The place to get that coverage has just changed. Late sports are still added to our website and our e-edition every night. We are not happy about it, but we don't have a choice. Subscriptions to our website and e-edtion are actually cheaper than the printed paper. Here's a link to the game story on UNT-Rice https://dentonrc.com/sports/men-s-basketball-unt-continues-historic-run-with-win-over/article_2ac4e343-4832-56ae-8b05-63b97e59e6fe.html And last night's hoops rewind https://dentonrc.com/sports/colleges/late-night-hoops-rewind----north-texas-rice/article_81450ac1-f99e-5be9-a6ed-a309b0894773.html Here's a link to the UNT-Rice content in the e-edition, which is like a combination of a paper and our website. https://dentonrc.com/eedition/page-b/page_19427287-cace-536e-b8b9-eb44769c015f.html If you are already a subscriber, you have access to our website and e-edition. We have subscription options that start at 99 cents a week. Here's a link: https://dentonrc.com/allaccess/ We're still here and don't plan on going anywhere. We were just forced to change the way our readers access our late sports content.
