Dunbar made the roster for Stoops' team. Landry Jones at QB. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/xfl-rosters-2020-here-are-the-52-man-rosters-for-all-eight-teams/gdlifutwxnsv1x41iejvex9h17 points

The latest thread on the Mountain West Conference got me thinking about brand awareness and where NT stands. I did a little digging and found we are MUCH better off than I thought. Here's an article from 2018 on national brand awareness of college teams. Scroll down to the "Top of the Non-Power 5" and check out the list. Spoiler alert - we're #3!5 points

I think you are accurate with the concern about his speed. It appears we have 4 or 5 spots left and are focusing on both lines and the transfer portal. I think they are trying to address the RB situation with the recent PWO offers. Kind of surprised we didn't offer Cobbs a PWO. No harm in that and if he pans out and performs like he did at Guyer, they can present him a scholarship later on.3 points

Apparently not every opportunity? The "logic" is a bet on ourselves. Is North Texas really 'for real'? Do we have what it takes to succeed at a higher level than C-USA? If so, then the next opportunity that presents itself (we're likely not going to get a Big12 or SEC invite anytime soon) needs to be jumped on to continue moving up. In the current landscape, that would leave the AAC & MWC. And I think everyone mentions the MWC more just because there would ideally be interest in getting back into Texas from MWC schools. That may or may not be true, but if they decided to, and North Texas was a desired target, then we'd be stupid not to take their invite. If travel costs for our Olympic teams is a problem, or, if coughing up the transition fees is a problem, then we're obviously not 'for real', and may not ever be able to advance. If our fans are pissed because they might have to stay up a little late for maybe 2 games per year, or get mad because they can't drive to San Antonio or Houston for an away game, then they're stuck in the comfort of what we already have, and we may not ever be able to advance.3 points

BS...they wouldn’t have gone to the Fiesta Bowl or Rose Bowl if they had gone undefeated in CUSA 1.0, in part because Utah and BYU were ranked when they beat them, which that iteration of CUSA didn’t offer. @MeanGreenTexan—this is proof positive of why we will NEVER move over to the MWC even if we could. We have A large majority of fans that want to play UTSA and Rice because they are driveable and because the newspaper might not have a story on us on Sunday morning (smh). It is what it is...we think it’s better to play F_U, Charlotte, and ODU than it would be to play Fresno State, Boise State, and San Diego State. That’s not fixable, in my opinion. You just have to accept it or walk away like the other 98% do.3 points

Yeah, he would have to somehow be getting a 6th year. Redshirted at Purdue in 2015, so his 5 years to play 4 ended this past season.3 points

All true. But a 11-1 team in the MWC would have a better chance at going to a much more prestigious bowl than an 11-1 team from CUSA. That's just my opinion.3 points

A lot of people milling about the tail section concourse, entering on the student side and traffic backed up on Bonnie Brae due to the slow entry to the Red/Blue lot. I think it will fill by the end of the first quarter.🙏2 points

Logic = Old Denton I doubt there are many fans that don't want to advance NT's athletics. Comfort and financial concerns, what does this mean? Not analysing the financial impact of any change would be incredibly stupid even in a debate. Comfort with the status quo, every knowable fan wants NT to explore every opportunity. Pie in the Sky with no analysis = New Denton2 points

Not wanting to advance the program due to comfort/financial concerns is very much a part of "old Denton".2 points

Average pay is $55k. Depending on the situation they’ll make between $1,000 and $4900 per week with an option to leave for any NFL offer after the championship game in April. Pretty good gig. Rick2 points

Given that we are set to lose three scholarship running backs this season, not offering Cobbs seems a little more crazy. After next season it's just Siggers, Adaway and the incoming Isaiah Johnson. Although I do get it if at the end of the day they are scared of his overall speed and him not being as effective at the FBS level. I would really like to know how many spots we have left in this class and if we are prioritizing OL/DL players for those spots.2 points

Even if we don’t make the tournament, or even if we don’t end up as a 12 seed, I hope this once and for all settles what kind of schedule we should be playing. We were competitive but came up short against all of our top tier opponents, and that STILL gets us enough respect, almost in February, for Lunardi to have us as a 12.2 points

Hey, Quoner, thanks for bumping this up. My comments as valid today for me as they were the day I originally posted them. You get married...play with the one you married and keep it zipped otherwise. Nothing...nada...nil...has changed my opinion on that...nor will it ever. Don’t want to honor your marriage vows? No problem...don’t get married. Celeb or not...same thing goes. Thanks for digging up this old thread.2 points

Javion has been named POW for CUSA. He should have received it in the past as well. Justice delayed is Justice denied but we will take the award.2 points

Are you inferring that if UNT joins the MWC, we will be going to the Rose Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl? I think what got TCU to those bowls was the the quality of TCU's football team.. A case could be made that the MWC contributed to the success of TCU but only a small portion. If TCU had lost several games in MWC conference play, TCU would not have played in those bowls. Have any other MWC teams gone to the Rose and/or Fiesta bowls as members of the MWC? Merely joining the MWC conference does not assure participating in the top bowls or receiving an invitation to join a P5 conference.2 points

Couple of projects I have heard being mentioned...yes, next up "larger" project if the expansion of the athletic office area to include more weight room space, some new Club Seat type seats and expanded office space. A "smaller"project I was told about recently involves building a tailgate area for RV's/Campers across the street on Bonnie Brae from the mail Apogee entrance in the field where the team/players currently park on game days. Complete with paving, electrical hook-ups, etc. For those looking for a center court for tennis or indoor courts...not on the near horizon at this point in the planning stages. Bruzzy's golf practice facility also getting attention.2 points

The next big thing on the agenda is updating and greatly increasing the size of the weight room and athletic center. However, someone came in with a big check and the golf team is getting bumped to the head of the line. That's how these things work to some extent.2 points

I’m not liking the idea of taking away the big screen, and putting 3-4 small one in the corners.2 points

Our current NET ranking is 77. LaTech is also in the top 100 and WKU will possibly be there soon, so pod play could really be a great opportunity for one of the above three to get another couple quality wins. Depending on how the cards fall over the next few weeks, one team from CUSA could maybe emerge from pod play with a NET ranking in the 50s and thus enter the conference tournament as a bubble team. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-net-rankings1 point

Great points. The last one makes me sad. Do you not recall the 2015 WKU squad? They ran absolutely roughshod over all of CUSA that year. No other team has come close to dismantling the conference like they did that year since we've been a part of it. Their closest Conference game was a 17pt blowout of Southern Miss in the Conference Championship game. How were they rewarded for such a dominating run through our conference? NY6 Bowl? A matchup with a respected P5 school?... Nope. ...With a trip to the now-defunct "Miami Beach Bowl" VS the AAC's 4th place team: South Florida. Of course, WKU dispatched South Florida with ease because they were so good... but the issue was with perception of C-USA. The conference is just not very good & certainly not respected. If you'd forgotten about that squad, that further proves the point many here are trying to make. If WKU would have made that kind of run through the MWC or the AAC, no-doubt they would have played in the NY6 game. This iteration of C-USA CANNOT be UNT's final resting place. Onward & upward... we just have to make it happen, by any non-cheating means necessary... if that could mean going West for a few years, so be it. Of course, it's all moot since there's no invite. But we'll see what happens when the next shakeup occurs. As for Boise, they've established their brand/perception as winners with the general football-watching public, and I'm not sure a move to the AAC would help them as much as it would help the AAC.1 point

We laugh at the AAC's claims to "P6," because they're not there. But it's clear that they aspire to be. While Boise State doesn't bring a huge TV market, they would unquestionably increase the legitimacy of the AAC as a football conference. They recently added Wichita State--why? Not for their TV market, but because they added legitimacy to the AAC as a basketball conference. Boise State would bring every bit as much in football. The "TV markets" focus has clearly driven C-USA's additions, and we see what a sports juggernaut that has made us...and how exactly has it helped our recent TV contract?1 point

Well, Jackson is the leading scorer in the NATION. But, I agree that Hamlet is the better all-around player. Edit: Jackson leads the nation in total points. He is second in scoring average.1 point

The way their stadium is currently built, there's no room for expansion. And for the two games I've been there the past two years, there's no reason to expand it. While they draw good crowds, they aren't filling it on most games. Then again, all the Friday night games probably doesn't help. I don't see how games with Tulane, SMU, or East Carolina bring more people. Helluva tailgate scene though.1 point

I could be wrong. He paid his way his first year I know but I thought that he was given a scholarship for this year. BTW I believe that a former professional can be given a scholarship as long as it's in a different sport.1 point

Chris Weinke was on scholarship at Florida State, right? I think if it were an issue about Aune's having played professional baseball, he would not only be ineligible for a scholarship, he would be ineligible even to play college athletics.1 point

Did NT give up too early on Tichonenko? Serious question as i am not sure. I saw some potential, but he hadn't exactly seemed close to becoming a pillar of the team in his time in Denton. Edit: just saw that tichonenkos percentage now is on just barely over 2 attempts per game. So its a good quota, but on a fairly small sample1 point

I simply detest the continued separation of college football from the D1A days. There should be no "P5" or "G5" divisions. Make no mistake, Boise State football has done very well over the years. The Bowl win over OU several years ago put Boise on the map. Yet, their stadium only has a capacity of 36,387. Unless Albertsons donates more money to expand to 50-60K plus, at it's current configuration the stadium is too small. Also, Boise's enrollment is only 25K, which is not small but who knows how many students in that number are "on-line" students not even living in Boise. I don't know. Besides North Texas(a pipedream), the only programs that would merit any sort of consideration for the almighty P5 status would be the University of Houston because they have been there, located in one of the largest cities in the US, and they have the backing of Tillman Fertitta. I probably didn't answer your question completely, but I simply don't like the "have" and "have nots" situation in college football.1 point

And, she has a twin sister! How hot is that????? The guy is ABSOLUTELY NUTS! What in the sam hill was he thinking????????? Amazing...but, as did the Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriquez, etc., etc. "revelations" this too shall pass...sadly. It's just another indication of the "celebrity worship" this nation has developed that it is getting so much "press time and air play". This "stuff" just really gets my goat...if you get married "play" at home and only at home...or get divorced. Tiger...keep it ZIPPED...except at home and concentrate on your golf game! Good grief!!!!!1 point
