  1. Where do you get that? NT never even tried to fight the re-assignment to 1aa. Others did and remained 1a. Podunk schools unlike what, the great current G5 designated teams now has? NT played their peers in 1aa, just has they are doing now. A lot of those old Southland schools are now considered G5. I would not count on two of the most successful P5 programs in the country, Baylor and TCU dropping down to the G5 level. NT has chosen to invest heavily in athletes relative to their history. NT has aspirations of moving up if there is ever an opportunity. So setting back and being happy about their current status is not the plan and don't comprehend why any fan would want it to be.

  2. Notice that on Mason's TD throw the announcers can't stop talking about how it should have been an INT but the Ohio State wide receiver "saves" him.

  3. Who is the guy that comes running from the back, tosses his jacket, then appears to be looking to pick a fight in the middle of the court? I think it's hilarious how the video ends/freezes with him not finding any takers. lol

Make that shot or miss that shot, the fact he wanted the ball with the game on the line really says a lot about him wanting to help this team win and that was a big play.”

  5. My question would be: was Smart good that first year in anything besides shooting? Ball movement, defense, game IQ, etc...?

  7. I'd take him in a heart beat. Especially knowing that P5 HC/DCs wanted him bad enough to extend an offer even though you and I know that doesn't mean much until they get their official offer letter. I'd rather have him than the prep school DL.

  13. Last night was pretty obviously a huge win for us, and what the metrics show is certainly congruent with that feeling. According to Bart Torvik’s website, our chances of having at least a share of 1st place heading into pool play jumped from about 58% to 86% with the win, and our chances of going into pool play as the outright 1st place team jumped from I believe about 33% to 66%. http://www.barttorvik.com/conodds.php?conf=CUSA We are also now 1st in CUSA in NET (jumped La Tech with the win), 2nd in CUSA in KenPom behind La Tech, and 2nd in RPI begins WKU according to RealTimeRPI. We have put ourselves in a great position to be in the thick of things. Now time to take care of some games we should win.

  15. This is what we need! Somebody that can step up or at least willing to step up and take over the game. The disappearance of the basketball player formerly known as Roosevelt Smart is incredible. I don’t know if he ever gets back to what he used to be.

  16. If the guy is shooting for a P5 job then he'd NEED to do a good job HERE. Right? Am I crazy? I don't care what the motivation is for a person as long as they do a good job.

  17. Great point. If it had been one of the "prototypical" P5 QB's all we would have heard is how they " put it in the only place" that gave the receiver a chance go up for it.

  18. She needs to capitalize on that talent. On another note, there always seems that someone really important gets hurt right before the season starts every year. What do you think that's all about? Is a new S & C coach needed? Last year it was Townley, Tosin Mabodu, and the girl that transferred in here from WV. This year it was the Freshman from Santa Fe in Oklahoma.

  23. See the west coast conference. Gonzaga gets the glory and has established themselves as the best. St. Mary’s challenges to keep bell ringer on their toes. BYU has name recognition and can upset the bell ringer and conference challenger. That’s pretty much it every year in that league. GMG

  25. I think a lot about how these mid-tier conferences are perceived, and how they can improve upon that perception. I speculate two things would help our (CUSA) cause. This would apply to a lot of mid-major conferences: 1) You need a bell-ringer. Have a program that can threaten the top 15 in the country and constantly make OOC noise. wins 30-ish games every year, and people know it will happen. 2) once you have an established top tier team, you want a second tier of teams to also make noise...without threatening the bell-ringer's place in media perception. When you can get 2-4 additional teams that can re-enforce what #1 is already doing OOC you can start getting those 2-3 extra bids. This might take a few years. Extra important, however, that the #1 team isn't taken down in conference play. If they have 1-2 conference losses, the talking heads have two options to consider: 1) bell-ringer isn't as good as advertised and the rest of the conferece is having a down year, or 2) The bell-ringer is still very good but there are also 2-3 additional teams that are equally good. The media will almost always choose the first option. This is the uphill battle we face as mid-major. This is just me speculating after what I saw when Memphis/Calipari was in the league. It was frustrating to watch them get all the attention, but if they lost then the conference didn't seem to get ANY attention. @CMJ would probably have a better opinion of this.

  26. Without taking a side on the underlying issue I would like to take exception with the thread title. It implies that good guys with a gun ‘saving the day’ is a regular occurrence when in fact it’s rare. Even more rare is to have said good guys with the level of training this man had.

  28. I strongly disagree. I keep seeing this suggestion and I wonder if people remember the 1aa days. No G5's have no realistic chance of winning a national championship; but at least there is a conceptual chance. If NT became a member of some type of official second division of the NCAA, I would expect plummeting attendance, massive drop in contributions and an athletic program quickly declining. I remember all the old rhetoric about the virtues of being 1aa. However, that decision almost killed NT athletes and NT is just recently recovering from that disaster.

Also was offered by Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, UNLV, Utah State, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia. Of those offers it looks like the most recent one was West Virginia back in July. https://247sports.com/Player/Jonathan-Pickett-46047150/

  37. When we joined CUSA I hoped that we’d recruit Memphis in football and basketball. La Tech, UAB, USM, MTSU, and WKU are all less than 5 hour drives away for family to go see games, and Denton is only 7 hours away itself. Glad to hear his family taking advantage of that proximity.

Just picked up a couple of items from Athletics for the silent auction...Scrappy bobblehead, Yeti drink container, nice bound journal book with the "Flying Eagle" logo, plaque with a cut of the goalpost from Fouts Field, some MGSF coasters and a nice UNT golf umbrella. PLUS: Just heard from one of our longest sponsors...CrossTimbers Equipment, owned by a long-time UNT supporter, Bryan Waddle, that they will help sponsor the event again this year! CrossTimbers Equipment and Addison Transportation have generously supported this event for all of its ten years now! Really generous of both of them. If you are looking to play, please sign-up with this link as soon as possible as we need lead time for the playing t-shirts: https://one.unt.edu/annual-kickball-classic For donations (any amount of course) please utilize: https://one.unt.edu/annual-spirit-classic-donation-page THANKS to all who are supporting our efforts in behalf of UNT Cheer!

  45. There's always going to be someone who spends the most, but I don't believe self-relegation to a lower level is the answer. The reality of college football these days is there are only about 20 schools that will be "allowed" by the current powers that be to win the National Championship (it's been rotated among 14 schools in the last 25 years - two years had co-national champs). There are 65 or so P5 schools, so that leaves 45+ of them on the outside looking in, just like everyone else in the FBS. Football will institute a larger playoff eventually. There's just too much potential money out there not to. Take the 10 conference champs + 6 at large bids and seed them into a 16-team playoff and let the games begin. We need to be there when it happens, not in some lower division wondering how we missed the boat again.

  46. I am sorry to say, but at this point I am wondering if WB needs to pull the plug on coach M at the end of the season. I know the team is young and she signed a 4* for next year, but she has been the coach for a while now, and it just never seems to come together and the current season seems to be going off the rails now

  47. I do feel their is a missing game. I love the magical runs Boise and UCF can go on but after watching James Madison vs North Dakota State then Clemson LSU I feel there should be a G5 championship game or something Similar. I would have tuned in and been juiced to see Memphis vs Boise this year. Put it in a 60,000 seat destination stadium and then you have 3 cream de la Creme games with really good teams battling it out for a championship title. Now I went to the Memphis penn state game and Memphis brought more fans and were louder. They held their own. Slightly torn about this because it would be the final split. But Quality matchups rock.
