  3. https://247sports.com/Player/Kirkland-Michaux-46050097/ https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/2020/jake-bishop-238092 Crazy that Westlake’s QB Michaux has only one offer to Fordham. He played really good in State championship. He threw some dimes and managed the game great. He is 6’4 and 211lbs. Jake Bishop, I know he is only 5’8 but he has won 2 state championships. That’s huge. He threw the ball great and you can tell he has that “It” factor. Not sure what coaches are not seeing. As a dad that just got done with this recruiting thing, sometimes you just have to scratch your head. Not talking about our coaches, just coaches in general. Seems like they chase the same 300 kids. Coaches trust your eyes and quit waiting on other schools to offer first. Build that relationship and you won’t have to worry about decommitments even to P5 schools. That was how it was with us. Christian kept getting calls from P5 coaches to play LB, but loved the relationship he built with the coaching staff and the commits. We also had 3 P5 schools tell our coach that they thought Christian was a great athlete , but wanted to wait until after signing day to offer. Games they play!!! Just a proud dad’s 2 cents. 5. I believe Upton was replacement for Kerl. It is unfortunate about Kerl. He is a great football player. Hopefully he can go to Juco and get those grades up and come back next year. After watching Upton in State Championship this is a huge pick up for us and not a replacement. This kid is a baller and don’t let his size fool you. With him going up in January with Christian and Dane is also huge. Excited about this class.

  12. Thank you. We are excited. Coach Womack gonna put 20lbs on him by fall camp and I’m looking forward to him competing and helping the Chain Gang room get better.

  18. Maybe we are recruiting him but keeping it quiet so TD doesn't know 👿

  19. Maybe. But that doesn't mean you bring in Ron Mendoza.

  20. Tight ends don’t necessarily stay tight ends. Remember Victor Gill? He started at North Texas as a tight end for Darrell Dickey and ended up being a first team all conference offensive tackle for Todd Dodge.

  21. @KeithLee, you have a valid point about the Westlake qb. He had P5 size and one thing we know around here is that Todd Dodge is fantastic at developing quarterbacks.

  22. I guess it stems back to when they were at Carrol and heard nothing but worshiping and praise from most of those they were surrounded by. They weren’t used to negative criticism. If you ever had a conversation with Todd back in ‘07-‘08 he was extremely egotistical/confidant about his program and abilities. 79-1 could do that to most of us, regardless of the unfair, built-in advantages afforded him at Carrol. I fully understand that. But as time wore on and the horrible losses piled up and praise turned to criticism their family started hearing it, and they got defensive, naturally. In year four in 2010 going into the Army game at West Point Dodge was 5 and 33. The Mean Green faithful hadn’t seen more than two wins a season at home in 6 years dating back to Dickey’s ‘04 season and everyone was sick of the losing. The alumni association had a pregame tailgating party set up for those who made the trip. One of our biggest donors(at the time) and long time suffering fans had just welcomed a couple of West Point alumna who had walked up and they were all discussing the two teams. At some point in the conversation our alumn stated something critical about how poorly we were currently playing. When he said it he didn’t see Dodge’s wife Elizabeth walking behind him and she heard what he said and lost her $hit and let them all have an ear full and stormed off. When I learned of this incident I knew the end wasn’t far away. Dodge was fired four weeks later. Rick

  23. What about his son Riley Dodge as QB coach? Scratch that. Just saw Rick’s comment on the Dodge’s hating us.

  24. Dodge hamstrung himself by bringing in his HS staff.

  25. I could understand a little more if he had a decent record and was competitive and he was forced out. Additionally, maybe if he had not been so hell bent on bringing in a HS staff he might have fared better.

  26. A question and this has probably been asked before, does the Athletic Department have a program where they reach out to Alums who are coaching? Thanks

  27. There’s a great documentary running on HBO right now, maybe ya’ll have seen it called “The Art Of Coaching”. It’s about Nick Saban and Bill Belicheck,....the two most winningest, successful current coaches in college and pro football. Its amazing but not surprising how similar they are. But also not surprising is both are DEFENSE first coaches. Current and future coaches couldn’t have a more crystal clear example of how to succeed in football than the philosophy both men follow. 32. We should have a coach set up an office at Shadow Creek, Duncanville and North Shore.

  33. Yep, that started being an ominous sign in the SMU game, starting with our first possession. Honestly, another thing was just the lack of creativity in the playcalling; it didn't seem like there was any point at which the opposing coaches weren't ready for us. I do think the problems with special teams may be correctable, if only because Biagi was the ST coordinator the year before. I do think Biagi is good at identifying good special teamers and coaching them up, but he needs to work on the coverage teams, for sure.

  35. @GrandGreen @FirefightnRick @Green Lantern It is easy to pick on the defense and yes it was noticeably worse this year. My two biggest complaints with the defense were a lack of pass rush and not forcing more turnovers. However, was there anything that may have made the defense look worse than last year? We did lose one 1st team CUSA LB, a 1st team CUSA DB, and a 2nd team CUSA DB to graduation and NFL training camps. Our defense got younger and less experienced. Additionally, Bodie Reeder happened. Here is something you may not know and whether you place value in stats or not, these are hard to ignore and probably make getting the same defensive production out of a more inexperienced group nearly impossible. In 2018, under Graham Harrell, we held the ball for an average of 31.29 minutes per game (34th in the nation). In 2019, under Bodie Reeder, we held the ball for 28.08 minutes (106th in the nation). You may say, well, we're a pass first offense so TOP isn't as important to us. Ok, maybe so but how about this stat. In 2018 under GH, we had 321 1st downs (13th in the nation). In 2019, under Reeder, we had 253 (74th). Even when you factor that we had 13 games in 2018, GH was still 4 first downs per game better. Now something that is bothering me a bit is the phase of the game that has been ignored by all of this coordinator talk and that is special teams. Marty Biagi hasn't faced near the criticism he should likely because Hair-Griffin was a good return man and Kenworthy was a pretty good punter. BUT, our punt return defense went from 78th in the nation to 102nd and our kick return defense went from 45th (19.86 yards per return) to 109th (23.63 yards per return. Reff was behind the 8-ball this year and maybe it was time for him to go but there was more working against him than his philosophy this year and that needs to be recognized.

  39. A fair point. Although there are a select few, such as myself who believe he could’ve been great with a better athletic director supporting him. If anything, he had to support the athletic director which is pretty sad.

  40. Wasn’t Dodge one of the lowest paid FBS coaches at the time at like $250k? Where would the money have come from? Todd Ford was only making $90k as OC, Dodge was making more than that as the coach of SLC in 2006. Nowadays Todd makes $150k and Riley makes $97k. Could we throw $200k at Riley or $300k at Todd and then bygones be bygones and we get back to football? I think Todd would be more hesitant than Riley just because of age and comfort with where they are in life.

  41. Per a source of mine who recently had a family member at Carrol,...the Dodge’s hate our guts. Time heals all,...but I’ll be surprised if we ever sign a top recruit from Carrol or Westlake ever again? Rick

  42. I know FAU seems miles ahead of us, but I can’t help but hope we can still leapfrog them and nearly all of G5 if we just get our shit together. i feel like we are soooo close but there has always been one or two bad hires/things in the entire program holding us back.
