  3. Agreed. Used us to pimp himself, drive up his rating, and shop around for other offers. He was never truly committed here. Enough about this clown

  8. On the flip side, 16-1 got people to show up for a bit but then we flopped because we just weren’t good enough to really warrant the hype. You’re definitely right about a lot of people just strictly looking at the record. Which is why I’m not sure how much a Dayton win alone would make a difference. Either way, I think this is pretty clearly the best Mccasland team and, win or lose against Dayton, as long as we keep getting better the way we have been we’re going to have our best conference showing at this rate.

  12. IMO giving up on an organized student section was a huge mistake. The “Pit Crew is the late 2000s early 2010s was formidable. SGA played a big role in it too. Then as people graduated and moved on paired with the haplesslness of the Benford era it just fell apart. Even Talons (though they were there on Thursday) do not seem to show up in force anymore.

  13. I sit in section 120 and have to remove people out of my seats regularly. Gets old after a while. If someone else is in my seats they usually don’t want to move and then we have a confrontation. I should not have to put up with this. I am a Police Officer and my first inclination is to remove them myself. However, I will give the Ushers or the UNT Police a chance to resolve the issue first. This happened regularly last year as well. People need to sit where their ticket directs them to or put out the money for season tickets. Pretty simple when you think about it. This happens a lot at Apogee as well. The other issue I have with seating at both venues are the parents who bring their kids to games and turn them loose to run wild as long as they don’t bother them.

  19. With the fall semester coming to an end, I set down with Wren Baker, UNT’s Vice President and athletic director. Baker joined the Mean Green staff in the summer of 2016 and has made efforts to turn North Texas athletics into a program that is competitive throughout Conference USA. When Baker arrived, he implemented a five-year plan to accomplish this. Sitting down with him, I wanted to cover his plan’s progress as well as other athletic topics. So you’re about 3.5 years through [your five-year plan]. I looked online and I looked through what you’ve accomplished. Do you feel like the five-year plan is on a good pace right now? We are. There’s some areas where we hit targets ahead of schedule and some where we’re slightly behind and that’s okay. When you put a plan like that in place, it’s meant to be malleable so that as things change or maybe different priorities elevate, you have the ability to shift resources, both human and money. I think by-and-large we’ve made a lot of progress in those areas. If you zoom out and look at the department as a whole, I think all of the metrics are trending in a favorable way. Our momentum is strong and [it’s] not just about wins and losses, although those have definitely improved. Financial contributions, number of donors, academic success, overall health and well-being, all of that stuff is trending in a favorable way I think that’s due a lot to the plan and we’ve involved a lot of people in the formulation of that plan. I think the most noticeable part of that plan has been the infrastructure for athletics facilities. What were your thought in increasing the qualities of facilities and what was your goal there? When I took the job, a lot of the conversation was around, ‘We have good facilities,” and having been at some other institutions, I felt like the stadium was in really good shape. Outside of that, everything needed some help. I think for us, a lot of progress has been made in facilities because before they acquired the old Liberty campus, they didn’t have anything. They just played in city parks and that kind of stuff. People aren’t standing still, waiting on you to catch up and so when I came in, I did an assessment. We took some donors around and looked at facilities and opened their eyes to what the competitors are doing. I think the vision here was to be one of the best Group of 5 programs in the country and that hadn’t been where we had been historically. View Full Article

  22. Just imagine if Apogee hosted a CUSA Championship game - the place would be packed to the gills!!! I hope we get to that point soon . I'm not a fan of LK, but I almost feel bad for the guy to have so much success at FAU but almost no fan support.

  28. Figuring out how to remedy UNT attendance issues is something that we have countless discussions on here about for a reason. For the fans who care enough to post on here, most of us just go to as many games as we can. But for the people who don’t, yet make up a big chunk of the people who can favorably swing attendance for us, it’s hard to figure out. But based on history it seems that it takes quite a few wins, rather than just one big one, to go from what we had today to what we really want it to look like. Which is why I said the Dayton win alone isn’t going to flip the attendance issue overnight. Build up a good conference

  29. I’ve had 1 and the rehab was brutal, definitely closer to 9 months, but I feel like I was moving slower than normal as far as rehab was concerned. Mine was a full tear. One of my brothers had a fine recovery and my other had a slower recovery like mine, but still at least 7.5-9 months after all is said and done. I agree and am shocked he did not have surgery immediately. I would’ve wanted to knock that crap out and would rather be on crutches the last 2 months of my season than just delay it even longer. My initial thoughts, but I honestly have no idea either ... Didn’t you also say you know someone who knows who’s doctor and he definitely tore it? Maybe it was someone else who said this ... I read your post and my takeaway is ... still 4 months + 3 months = 7 months. 7 months post-December is July. Football starts well before then. Mine felt fine after my rehab as well and I’d like to think he’s getting advice from his doctor but just think his appearance at games (i.e. being in the stands during games) was initially shocking to me and made me question his recovery. Again, just a fan and spectator’s perspective over here.

  32. Yeah, the Power-5 schools definitely look at us as their peers. As do the bowl committees, who rarely match a G5 vs a P5 anymore. I understand there’s no official distinction, but it’s already there in practice. We are in between P5 and FCS like he said.

  35. OK, now that the season is over, anyone care to assess the newest version of the Green Brigade? Let me start. Pre-game. We actually have one now. We start with the big announcement of pre-game starting and then the Band opens with a Fanfare. An original North Texas based composition. This is historical. No one has ever done that. Incorporating the spirit/curfew bell outline into the tribute to America routine was fantastic......and also historical. I don't think that has ever been done either. Half time shows If "Fessor Cook" and the GB keep coming up with shows like this....or better then they are really going to be deserving of the brag "Best Band in America".....but they're not there quite yet. In the stands Great energy and great promotion of fan participation. The Band was having fun and it was infectious. 👍 So how does everyone else feel?

  38. Maybe the easy fix is to just paint a color scheme on the steps to designate Reserved vs. GA. I don't mind spending the extra $5 for Reserved seat, but I don't want to do it if it means having discussions/confrontations with people about where to sit. The ushers provide no guidance whatsoever, so maybe if the steps were painted green for Reserved seats, that would resolve most (not all) of the headaches.

  40. Nothing. Just that the off-season is here way to early and some of us think that defense needs more of the head coach's attention. It started by me stating that the one win that means anything in the past 15 years was because of defense.

  48. Rick I’m with you on defensive first philosophy...... the conservative philosophy though. 😬 those were some painful offenses to watch and they did cost us games at times. I want both. Aggressive creative offense and a swarming, mean defense. I look at LSU and Bama and others that are traditional defense first teams but they opened up their offenses. It can work. There’s no reason Littrell’s offense can’t mesh well with a good defense. He runs the air raid but it’s not the Leach air raid, he’s not going to throw the ball 50 times a game but it’s also not 3 yards and a cloud of dust
