  1. I really don’t know where this 31 number people keep using is coming from. According to 247, looks like they signed 16 high schoolers, 3 jucos, and 16 D1transfers. Not sure how many of those D1 transfers were given scholarships, and I know one of them (DeAndre McNeal) left and went back to FAU. And of their 22 starters, I only see 3 that are D1 transfers they picked up this offseason, 2 are D1 transfers from the year before, and 2 more are D1 transfers from 2017. 15 of their 22 starters were signed to SMU out of HS or JUCO. But the narrative that gets spread on here has most people believing they got most of their starting lineup overnight from other D1 schools, and that’s just not true. https://247sports.com/college/smu/Season/2019-Football/Commits/

  2. I think people might be highly overrating the transfer route. Yes, SMU is having success with it, but it's definitely a jump-start method and something where a lot of things have to go right in order for it to work. I doubt Sonny is going to do this again, as it is a one time talent infusion. It's also something that could go terribly wrong without the right leadership/team buy in.

  3. Yuck. It's not difficult. All white on the road - green helmet over green jersey with white pants at home.

  4. How much success does the Mean Green need to have in order to get student athletes interested in transferring to the program? What booster support is needed? Watching SMUt at HU and the announcers are talking about all the transfers on both teams. Does it take a bowl game win or another conference championship? UNT is ranked 12th in FBS in conference championships with I think 22 or 25...whatever it is the Mean Green needs to find a way to get more three star (or dare I say four star?) recruits interested in moving on, come to Denton... Sonny Dykes comes from an innovative coaching tree, looks like he’s innovating again in the sport. Mean Green need to look at what’s going on in FBS and see if they can’t also capitalize. GMG

  5. They get 31 by adding talent. 15 + Buechelle = 31 Rick

  6. If a football player is on scholarship of any kind (academic, some other sport, etc...) it counts towards the 25/85. So it's not like offering a football player an academic scholarship is going to skirt the rules.

  7. None of it matters if we don’t win in Ruston (and Denton twice, and Charlotte and Houston).

  8. Will be there. Going to the game with a Charlotte local (Clemson grad) who I’m sure will be very impressed with CUSA football.

  10. I'll look forward to seeing you there. But should I wear green or gray? Joking aside, if you have not made any hotel reservations, there are a number of places very near the campus. You'll be able to leave your car at the hotel and walk to the stadium.

  11. I've seen this come up a few times and I can't help but wonder if he's already involved in the offense. I say this because this offense looks nothing like the offense Reeder ran last year. (tempo) It actually looks a lot like our offense last year. (minus 2 all conference receivers)...Especially on short yardage.

  12. I am sure we are not the only ones who are thinking about this... I hope the coaches are trying to do the same things other G5 Texas teams are doing to be competitive to get the best players we can.. via HS or the Transfer Portal. The tough thing about the Transfer Portal to me... is it feels more like a "rent a player" system. You have them for 1 year and they are gone... It will be interesting to see what SMU looks like next year. Will they be able to get more transfers or not? Maybe this will be their new norm? We will have to wait and see... I would, personally, like a mix of both... that way we dont have all of our eggs in one basket or the other. However... that doesnt seem to be working out best for us at the moment lol GMG

  13. https://247sports.com/college/smu/Season/2019-Football/Commits/ By eye-balling it, it looks like around 16. Not sure where the 31 transfers comes from. According to this list there was 16 transfers in the 2019 class.

  14. Regardless how they finish this year, we’ll knock them off next year. LOCK IT UP! GMG!

  17. Glad to see people starting to be concerned about the value we're getting out of our coach's compensation package. I'd guess whoever asked for that to be written into the contract didn't fully understand how to tie jet usage into a compensation package. $100k is maybe 2-2.5 average length domestic round trips for a family of 4 on a small/medium private jet. Littrell isn't exactly rolling up in a new Gulfstream 450/550/650 unless G Brint is giving him a hell of a deal on time in his personal or a Ryan Co. jet. And I hope he's restricted against flying in anything prop driven that is too small (anything smaller than a King Air)... its just too dangerous in my personal opinion. He is the "CEO" of our football program after all. He should have asked for hours per month/year on a specific class/make of jet, not a dollar value of usage. Or if it its dollar value since UNT doesn't have a jet to give him time on, I'd ask them to pay the yearly fractional membership fee in total and get X dollars a month/year toward usage. He would have received more value out of that setup.

  18. I heard @UNT 90 Grad will have the new replica jerseys on hand for anyone that comes to take home AND will have the foresight of knowing everyone's sizes beforehand.

  20. We won by a much larger margin in the throw back helmets. My heart can’t take another gray helmet type win.

  21. I have never trusted SMU and never will. Good for them, they are on a roll. However, the roll might get a bit bumpy in a year or two if they are put under the microscope by the NCAA. NCAA loves to beat up on SMU.

  22. 3 of SMU’s starters were added from other D1 schools this past offseason. 15 of their 22 starters signed with SMU out of high school or JUCO. Their lineup isn’t nearly as D1-transfer heavy as people are making it out to be. Heck, we added 2 starters via D1 transfer (Plantin and Harvey) this offseason, meaning we added just one less D1 transfer starter this offseason than SMU did.

  23. SMU got a nice win on the road tonight in rainy Houston. Their dream season is still alive. Dear Lord, if they do somehow go undefeated and get into the Cotton Bowl, our worst fears will be upon us. We will never stop hearing about their turnaround and how great this is for Dallas by the old guard SWC loving media members. All of this reiterates to me just how much we blew by falling apart down the stretch in CUSA play. Last year was our chance. Now, we not only have taken a step or two backwards, we have to watch the 1% from University Park enjoy a Renaissance right in front of our faces. We must have really pissed off the football gods something fierce decades ago...

  26. The real nugget here is the 26-21 record with no bowl wins. Not an SL hater but that needs to improve if the Mean Green are going to be relevant soon, or continue to be a .500 club through and through.

  27. From the 1968 Yucca (yearbook) describing the 1967 team: "They produced all this, and they produced a new name, the "Mean Green."

  28. Hopefully, driving down from the DC area Saturday morning. Curious about how how many Mean Greeners will be there. Last time I saw the Mean Green was versus Portland State in 2015. Ended up over at East Side Denton early in the third quarter. Fingers crossed for a better result this time! l'A.V.

  29. I have been Mr. Negative on the forums given how the seasons gone but watching the high school commits senior film is really lifting my spirits and outlook going forward because that's three solids classes in a row. All we need is a few more guys that play in the trenches who can make a difference to commit and we're going to be kicking a lot of ass in a couple years.

  30. Just be ready for Alabama's 5* backup Left Guard's (let's be real, very few people want an OL's autograph) "Likeness" to somehow be worth more than a guy like Doak Walker Finalist AJ Dillon from BC. More importantly for those of you who are happy to see this happening... just be ready for SMU's 3* backup Left Guard's "Likeness" to somehow be worth more than a guy like Mason Fine or anyone else NT can bring on campus, really.

  31. OK? That's just not a shrug your shoulders kind of excuse. It's the most important job of a college coach's job, recruiting. Nonetheless, Holtz and Tech have more success than we do while recruiting better than we do all while getting paid less than half the amount of money paid.

  33. If LIttrell wins conference championships and gets the program in the national spotlight (for winning...not for access to a jet) this won't be an issue. If he keeps doing what he's doing this kind of attention is going to get worse. JUST WIN coach. I don't care about the rest of it.

  37. Of course, had the 4’th & 1’s been successful this board’s mood turns180 degrees & some would want SL in the NT Athletic Hall of Fame before this season’s done. I’m so glad in my 25+ years of being a tech school student recruiter I didn’t have a tech school forum critiquing my every burp, belch & fart. I still have that Catholic guilt from a couple of UNT coaches I was way too critical of on GMG & being Protestant makes such guilt hard to have. I would say to younger alums—just let it be because UNT coaches have more to please than us & that group of high level critics on campus can make or break a career. Just my .02. GMG! PS: We all need Coach Seth Littrell to be a raging success. IMHO, 2 more 3+ star-laden (with linemen) recruiting classes gets us where we can compete annually for CUSA championships with no down year. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I think our new “completed” IPF will do more for recruiting than we’d ever believe.

  40. Anything with our current logo (SOW), the green battle flag, the interlocking NT, and an authentic game jersey both green and white. I also endorse anything that reflects our Texas heritage, i.e., the state of Texas silhouette with the SOW on it.

  41. NMSU will be a good test. They have a really quality program. Last year, they rattled of 19 straight wins to close the regular season/conference tourney and then REALLY pushed Final Four squad Auburn in the first round of the NCAAs. They are projected to win the WAC again this season. A true measuring stick for our crew.
