  1. Simple fixes: 1) Provide free bottled water at the game. 2) Temporarily disconnect all lines to water fountains and ice makers. 3) Deter all MTSU fans from bathing in, or drinking from, any of the Apogee toilets.

  4. Why ask us? Why not ask people more familiar with the situation. Like: Players who had been committed to SMU, but lost the scholarship offer late (some right around early signing day) as SMU found higher ranked transfers to give their scholarships to: Pulled Scholarship Offer List? Correct, incredibly dishonest, immoral, and sleazy, but not illegal.

  6. Okay, so for starters SMU effectively had two straight recruiting classes gutted before this last one, so we had some room to grow. When Morris left for Arkansas two years ago he basically took the upper half of the recruiting class he was building with him, and if a kid didn't leave with Morris to Arkansas you can imagine that Morris wasn't particularly high on him; I mean, Morris even took our starting QB, for god's sake. Dykes had to take the leftovers and try to pull a rabbit out of his hat but IIRC we came in well under the 25 man limit that year. The year before that was the Baylor scandal fallout when they were playing with a stop-gap coach and had ONE recruit committed. Morris had been knocking it out of the park with recruiting - he had Baylor's current starting QB, Charlie Brewster, committed amongst others but Rhule came in offered the upper two-thirds of THAT class, so they left and I'm sure they're happy, but we had to scramble there, too. But Dykes has essentially brought in an enormous amount of walk-on's, transfers included. They've got a platoon of non-scholarship freshmen out there if for no other reason than practice bodies. Stephens, the DB we put on Bussey, asked for a shot to play but he didn't received a scholarship offer until after the season started, supposedly. I wouldn't be surprised if the two from Rice, Grayson and Abercrumbia, were somehow on academic scholarships - I mean, they graduate Rice in three years.

  7. Thanks guys. I always love the podcasts. Go La Tech! Beat Southern Miss! Go Mean Green! Beat La Tech! Go FAU! Beat Southern Miss! All quite possible. If these things happen and we take care of business in the games we're highly favored to win, then we will very likely host the CUSA Championship Game. North Texas was the sweetheart of the first half of last season, let's be the sweetheart of the second half of this season.

  10. It's the kelly green, sometimes called Irish green, same color, and no, it's often not a perfect match between different textile manufacturers. And the reason a particular color was selected was because, like you said, vendors were picking whatever color they could find easily or cheaply. About the squirrel: I thought the whole thing was funny, including the irony of the poor thing's demise, but like former colors and former logos it certainly should not be promoted as a primary or alternate mascot.

  11. Last year the staff was intent with the roster we had and basically signed a class full of high schoolers. Added a couple jucos late and grad transfers. This year it looks like the opposite. We are content with our high schoolers between this class and last and I think you’re going to see us fill the rest of the class up with JUCOs and grad transfers.

  16. I can’t wait for the day when attendance at UNT isn’t dependent on what happens on the field. For this program to go next level, we have got to drive up ticket sales and scholarship fund donors, and we have to get over all the excuses to not support this program. That’s going to be the biggest hurdle we face if/when a conference shake up happens in the near future.

  19. I made it pretty clear in my original posts and follow-up that it should be just a one-off, kitschy type of thing. The highjacking around it being any more than that was elsewhere. (not saying YOU think I meant it as more, but maybe some others did). To clarify: @homefield, DEFINITELY don't make an albino squirrel a major branding effort for your company or you'll be sorely disappointed in sales. But if y'all already have a dozen different green shirts with a diving eagle, maybe a one-off green shirt with an albino squirrel would be a better seller than yet-another green shirt with the diving eagle. That's all I'm saying. 21. I mean, that's just simply not true. UCLA literally has their colors copyrighted as UCLA Blue and UCLA Gold, but you'll always see various shades of that blue for sale anywhere you go. I get trying to be specific about the green, my issue is more with those who think they're some sort of martyr for the school because they throw up a fit over an albino squirrel. And when you say Pantone 356 exactly what green is that supposed to be? Because when I started in 2001 we were definitely a forest green until TD came along and lightened it up.We mostly seem to have stuck with that lighter Kelly Green, but you can still find various shades of it in the Apogee store or the campus bookstore.

  22. And the reality of SBCUSA logistics doesn’t help. Even if we were 4-2 and MUTS was 4-2, no more than a 100 people would ever be here from Middle tennessee because it’s too damn far and nobody gives two $hit$ about them around here. Until this changes, I don’t care what Eastern team you bring here, you aren’t going to see it ever move the needle towards 25k in real butts in seats.

  26. Losing players and requiring the next man to step up is part of football. Last year we had to escape the Alamo Dome by the skin of our teeth against nUTSACK’s back up QB. Rice came in and played us tight til the 4th qtr with their 5th string QB. This year Houston drills us with their back up QB and a back up WR on 6 day’s notice. UAB lost what, 35 Seniors from last years team and, even though they haven’t played anyone really yet here they are again with last year’s back ups sitting at 5-1, 2-1 in conference and statistically the 7th best defense in the nation. And if it’s consistency your looking for in CUSA look no further than La Tech. Since joining CUSA in 2013 they’re 51-34. This span includes three 9 win seasons, one 8 win season, one 7 win season, are currently 5-1 and have 5 Bowl championships. THAT’S FIVE BOWL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN SIX YEARS! And that’s all with some of the sorriest, poor-ass looking state funded facilities you’ll ever find on any college campus. Rick

  27. Man FireFightnRick you need to have a beer or something. It's not that serious. In my time at UNT 2013-2017 the albino squirrel was strictly a gimmicky joke good luck charm. We never once considered it a official trademark of the university, discussed its life importance, anti athletics sentiments or connection to UT? Most of us were large supporters of Apogee & athletics & none of that was discussed with a squirrel lmao. Literally something we laughed about walking to class. Chillllllll

  29. You'll always see a spike in JUCO offers around this time of the year. Now is the time to offer JUCO guys who have improved or proven they can play at a high level. These are the types of guys who weren't recruited by D1 schools before for whatever reason, and went on to prove themselves at JUCO. Now, they've played a few games and have shown they can play at a high level, so the offers start rolling in. Nothing to be alarmed about.

  38. I hear ya Plumm.....but of the 130+ FBS Schools that probably applies to maybe 5-10 of them. I can blame RV for this some, but I frankly got tired of the "ask not what your program can do for you, ask what you can do for your program" mentality. We can give and give...money and time....but eventually I want a return. Big time college athletics is not a charity. Most want something in return. If I see Wren Baker get on twitter and lecture everyone about the low attendance we're going to have on Saturday after his 4th year, $2 million head coach got blown out AGAIN last week....I'm going to be disappointed. Accountability doesn't just fall on the donors and fans. And that doesn't mean I don't love my school ....it means I want them to hold up their end of our bargain. Just Win.

  41. There's no commitment here to recruit size on the lines of scrimmage. The D line rotation is too small. The LBs are too small. The O line is average on their good days. The team who wins CUSA will have the best line play.

  43. Forgive me for being the voice of reason here, but please take a slightly closer look at those two lists. Damarion Williams was committed to SMU and chose to go to Houston instead - Holgs stole him from us. He is starting at UH, otherwise he would have been guarding Busey instead of a non-scholarship walk-on RB who graduated and left UCLA without a so much as a peep. Jonathon McGill decommited from us and went to Stanford, of all places. We lost him. Jha'Quan Jackson decommited from us and went to Tulane. We lost him. (Sounds to me like he did about the same so far) A few others that went to similiar programs with a better recent success, like an FIU or Brandon Crossley going to Colorado State, may have rejected us. Shamar Jackson's whereabouts aren't 'unknown' - he is at ULM with a full ride to a FBS school. As far as the others go, I don't know if we rejected them or they rejected us. Grades are a consistent problem with us as well - not to try to sound above anybody but we do sometimes lose kids at the last minute due to grades and test scores, and I know UNT does, too. As a result, many of them end up at the FCS level, so I wouldn't be so sure about someone who lost their offer at the last minute and ended up at a SFA or Lamar. The kid may just not have qualified. Lastly I've mentioned losing the equivalent of an entire recruiting class to the likes of Baylor and Arkansas, and I guarantee you this is a consistent problem. You win some, you lose some. But I'm telling you there is consistently more to the story than what people post online.

  46. Not sure. But not something one would expect a coach getting paid the amount SL is getting paid going into year 5. He had his agent negotiate this pay scale for him (swindling UNT btw), so he accepts the responsibility of the expectations of having success. Nevertheless, for starters, I can all but guarantee another 1-3 OOC record. Jack Abraham is only a RS SO, so that's a probable L if this year in any indication. Rice is on the up n up, so that's a toss up. So, we're at 1-4-1 as of right now. Charlotte, @UTSA, and UTEP (getting to have 2 of those in that stretch at home will help). So, let's say we sweep those, but that's no gimme. That puts us around 4-4-1. At Middle and then or course the probable L to La Tech, hopefully a split at best? 5-5-1. Then a probable L @UAB. 5-6-1...And given all of our unknowns, that may be looked at as a best case scenario. So, with that, the highest paid coach in the conference (top 10 G5 salary, I believe), we may be looking at a 5-7/6-6 record for a best case scenario going into year 5. I would imagine our win total being set by Vegas somewhere between 4-5. I would define that as poor.
