  2. No, not surprised by the odds. However, they should be lower; just the home field advantage 3 points However, USM is a team that NT should beat. Their 3 wins are over a bad UTEP team, Alcorn St. a fcs team and a Troy team that doesn't appear that strong this year They have lost to Miss. St. and Alabama, respectfully by 23 and 42 points. NT has beaten them three straight years If NT and USM traded schedules, USM would beat and lost to the teams NT beat; and NT would do the same with USM foes I do believe this game more than any other could decide the Western division champ.

  3. Why yes. Per SMU, Killarney’s was on a 30 minute wait when this picture was taken and did $10K in sales.

  4. No. The attendance thing is always going to be a problem for us, to be honest with you. - Small-ish school whose alumni tend to scatter upon graduation - Little or no winning for two generations, so nobody looks back fondly on football games -No 'T-shirt' fans - A conference affiliation that provides no real ticket sales to opponents, or even provides much name recognition to the average fan. SMU has a little under 6500 undergrad, and around 30,000 alumni in Dallas, around 45,000 in DFW. So if every undergraduate and living alumni in Dallas attended a game we would just barely sell it out. This is the point of the whole 'Dallas' marketing idea. Yes, it's cheesy and distracting, but the school and Sonny both realize if SMU never gets the city behind us, then we are always going to be playing to an empty house. North Texas has the chance to market to a much larger fanbase if simply based on nothing other than enrollment, but SMU is going to have to come up with some way to find more fans, one way or another.

  5. And don’t forget...Ramsey did all that while having enough time to take two steps before a D End was breathing down his throat, right? Ramsey did all of that while running for his life, right? Ramsey did all of that after having to pick himself up off the ground from getting freight trained 3-5 times a game, right? After all the years of watching football you have under your belt it’s shocking how little you’ve retained at what makes a QB successfull...AN OFFENSIVE LINE Scott Davis, Mitch Maher, Scott Hall, Giovani Vizza and Derik Thompson.......all had better lines than the line Mason Fine has had to stand behind this year. 7. "WELL YA SEE, NORM, IT’S LIKE THIS… A HERD OF BUFFALO CAN ONLY MOVE AS FAST AS THE SLOWEST BUFFALO. AND WHEN THE HERD IS HUNTED, IT IS THE SLOWEST AND WEAKEST ONES AT THE BACK THAT ARE KILLED FIRST. THIS NATURAL SELECTION IS GOOD FOR THE HERD AS A WHOLE, BECAUSE THE GENERAL SPEED AND HEALTH OF THE WHOLE GROUP KEEPS IMPROVING BY THE REGULAR KILLING OF THE WEAKEST MEMBERS. IN MUCH THE SAME WAY, THE HUMAN BRAIN CAN ONLY OPERATE AS FAST AS THE SLOWEST BRAIN CELLS. EXCESSIVE INTAKE OF ALCOHOL, AS WE KNOW, KILLS BRAIN CELLS. BUT NATURALLY IT ATTACKS THE SLOWEST AND WEAKEST BRAIN CELLS FIRST. IN THIS WAY, REGULAR CONSUMPTION OF BEER ELIMINATES THE WEAKER BRAIN CELLS, MAKING THE BRAIN A FASTER AND MORE EFFICIENT MACHINE. THAT’S WHY YOU ALWAYS FEEL SMARTER AFTER A FEW BEERS.” -Clifford C Clavin .

  9. This is not a trick question, what NT ol was better than this year or what other CUSA team is better? One popular answer to what NT had a better offensive line, would be in the early Dickey years with national rushing champions. However, those were very one dimensional teams, these linemen didn't have to do a lot of pass blocking. NT leads the league in total offense at 451 yards a game. They are second in points scored. Siggers is also the leading rusher at 119.5 yards a game. NT is number 5 in rushing and number 4 in passing per game in CUSA. Those numbers were posted in general against a tougher oc schedule than most of CUSA's leading statistical offensive teams have played. I don't believe a poor ol could produce those type of numbers. NT has a much more balanced attack this year, so Fine's numbers are going to go down. Fine is playing in a new system, that is not as dependent on his passing to win. Some critics of Fine, I believe just look at the stats and don't bother to watch the game. For example, Fine's game against UH was one of his best. That game was lost by special teams, inconsistent defense and NT's routine first quarter absence.

  11. Sorry man but Fine is getting killed behind this year’s oline. I’ve been shocked at how poorly they’ve played as a unit this many years into Littrell’s tenure. Also, the poor protection doesn’t even factor in the awful low snaps Mason has to shoe string grab off the ground just to get plays started.

  14. SMU basketball under Larry Brown is a good comparison point. SMU and Larry had to sell roughly 6k tickets a game to get people to come to recently renovated state-of-the art basketball coliseum to watch a Hall-of-Fame coach with a top 25 and even top 10 team play nationally recognizable programs such as Louisville, UConn, Memphis, Cincinatti, Southern Cal, and others. Even SMU could market that. SMU football, on the other hand, has to sell 32k tickets a game to get people to come to a 'high school stadium' to watch a retread coach with retread players play schools nobody in Dallas knows, like East Carolina. Totally different monster. I genuinely hope the 'Dallas' thing works out.

  16. No, Fine is no Ramsey; he is better. Fine has better touch and no way near the interceptions that Ramsey had. Fine is not a great running quarterback, but Ramsey was like a statue back there. Ramsey, also had a lot of future all NFL players on his team. What better competition did Ramsey play against? The MVC was no better than CUSA. Just because Cincinnati, Louisville and Memphis are now very good football programs, doesn't mean they were in the Ramsey era. I was a big Ramsey fan, he was the second greatest QB to ever wear the Green. Fine just happens to be the best.

  20. Because Zach Orr represented himself, his family, and UNT so well while wearing green, during his pro career in BAL, and since being forced into injury retirement, I can't help but root for the whole Orr crew and noticed Nick Orr on the list. Big week for the Orr family. In addition to Chris playing for #8 Wisconsin every Saturday... 10/15 - 10/16: XFL draft for Nick 10/17: NT Hall of Fame induction for Zach

  22. Certainly a large roster change after 2020. But what I'm mostly concerned about is the whole idea 'You live with the sword, you die by the sword.' UNT, Houston, Memphis, UCF, USF, Tulane, Tulsa, Cincinnati, maybe even Temple are positioned to do exactly what SMU did this year and bring in a truckload of transfers. I don't think it would work the same way at Kansas, KSU, Kentucky, and other places that don't have a lot of home grown talent. But a truckload of talent leaves North Texas every year only to be passed over on the depth chart in college and never to be heard from again. UNT and others would do very well if they were able to tap into those players, and it is going to start to change, faster and faster, along those lines.

  23. Anyone who has watched the games, and I’ve seen all five in person,... would consider those somewhat misleading as garbage time stats against two extremely weak opponents and in three second half blow out games. We’ve accrued 1075 yards against ACU and UTSA. And another near 730 yards in the second half against the three good teams we’ve played in near blow outs. Here’s the first half yard production in those three games. 159 yards vs SMU (19 yards 1st qtr). 100 yards vs Cal (48 1st qtr). 171 vs U of H (57 1st qtr). Doesnt quite tell the same story. And though Southern Miss is no SMU/Cal/Houston I expect we’ll see a similar distribution of yards unless it’s competitive for 4 qtrs Rick.

  28. This is how the arms race goes. New conference and new facilities (and new coaches) have improved recruiting by leaps and bounds the last few years. Now our expectations have raised to where we should be winning recruiting battles and winning games against higher teared schools. Being in a higher level conference would help. We are better off than where we were. It’s. It even close. But now that’s not enough. Go Mean Green! Ever higher!

  32. The main reason for falling behind early in games is that you are getting your ass kicked by better teams.

  33. Yes, stats can be very misleading However, it would be impossible to go through every team's stats to parse out misleading stats; there is no basis for comparison. Not to mention the three games you cited are all against very good teams. Stats will tend to even out as the season goes on. I have seen all the games. Cal game on TV, others in person. I mention this because the tv game is actually a much better basis for drawing conclusions about the team. Not close to the feel and fun as being there in person, but from an analytical basis it is better. Replays and analysis (even with very questionable announcers) adds to understanding what is going on. As everyone who follows NT knows they have been horrible in the first quarter. Is this because teams are just far superior and crush NT at the beginning of games than coast? Or is NT just inept at starting games? Cal and SMU are just very good teams especially compared to G5's. UH even depleted was a much more talented team than NT. I will be very surprised if any CUSA team is anywhere close to as good as the teams that have beaten NT this year. UTSA certainly was not. ACU and UTSA are probably closer to the average CUSA team than UH, Cal and SMU.

  36. I'd say not much. Kids will still want to be at a P5 SEC school even if they're warming the bench. What it does change is the ability of those kids to move around after 2 years because warming the bench at an SEC school may or may not get you drafted. Seth needs to be able to leverage these kids desire to play.

  37. Memphis and Navy won't be easy. UCF isn't out yet. Anyone can sneak up and win a game. SMU isn't some perennial powerhouse. They have won a couple in a row. Not exactly going to the playoffs.

  38. I agree CUSA is a bad conference. But going 12-0 trumps a bad conference. And after starting 4-0 in non conference, we should’ve ran the table. 12-0 should’ve happened last year. And we blew it. I don’t know if we’ll get a shot like that again but last year was a monumental wasted opportunity.

  39. I think every fan has the right to be frustrated but I do feel recruiting has been heading in the right direction. I also think it's a little early to give up entirely on Littrell. Briles at baylor was only 25-25 overall after four years with only one winning conference record of 6-3 in 2011. Littrell is already at 25 wins with over half of his fourth season left. I think having patience with Seth will ultimately payoff.

  40. Boise took advantage of a solid market size and had plenty of potential fans and corporate sponsors for that school in a city (and state) that really had no one else to support. Sorry to those who believe the Kibbie Dome was special by BSU had zero competition for recruits or fans. Unfortunately, we don’t have the exact same advantages as they did, splitting the DFW market with two schools higher up the totem pole of CFB, as well as being surrounded by P5 giants within a 5 hour drive,, and pro teams in every sport. The only schools that I think we can fully emulate are UCF, UH, and Cincinnati because they look a lot like us as public schools in big markets that overlook them for the P5s in their state/region.

  43. You sure didn't hear comedians making fun of him constantly like they do Trump and his tweets and crazy and often untrue comments. . Most times in past they were just funny comments in mainstream media ... Ford Falling down, Carters accent, Bush Sr." points of light" and Bush Jr. pronunciation etc.. Not bitter.. hard-nosed comedy if you want to call it that. .. Not even Nixon was made fun of as much.. If you think so ... you are not listening to them or paying attention very much.. .Yes extremist did say a lot of crazy things about Obama..[ even claiming he was born in Kenya while his mother was a student at Univ. of Hawaii .. how could that happen. ] . but it was not night after of night of comedy stuff about him as is happening now.

  44. Trump will win the re-election because people are seeing through the Dems desperation. They are throwing any and everything at the wall hoping something will stick to the point that Adam Schiff made up the monologue to start this inquiry. They are rushing everything at this point because they are trying to beat the investigation in to their election "dirty deeds" to thwart Trump back in 2016. Their platform becomes more radical by the day. There aren't any good candidates out there because the great ones are too smart to jump in to this political circus of today where destroy your opposition in this party line, not doing what is best for our country. I will give Trump credit. He has done what he said he would and what got him elected.

  45. Mr Smith is correct that RV was “involved” in the hiring process. He flew around the country interviewing people that were never going to be hired. Withers, Helton, and Scott Frost to name a few. The head coach was identified in October and RV flying around was a smoke screen The Chairman of the Board of Regents and the President of the University made the hire. They wanted offense and excitement as well as a young coach that could relate to high school kids and the system most Texas high schools run. Seth is a damn good ball coach. This year was always going to be difficult replacing all the coaches that moved on last year. Additionally, despite having a 4 year starter at QB this team is fairly young in game experience. I would also say Seth is trying to build a program by signing high school kids. Building trust with high schools in Texas and Oklahoma. He’s not going for the SMU or K-State quick fix of Juco and transfers that can just as easily backfire as be successful. Good will will go a long way and 2 years from now this team will be special and the pipeline in place for years to come This is a New Denton The correct people are in place and athletics has amazing support from a great President Now it is time for this team to grow up These inexperienced players have 5 games under their belt so it’s time to improve in the bye week beat southern miss

  46. The only rationale? How about not being old enough to make a mature decision? How about being at an age where they are still living under their parent's roof and rules because they, or the majority of them, aren't ready to walk out the door and support themselves? Your statement was "if you are old enough to contribute to the tax roll, then you're old enough to have a voice in where and how your money is spent." The voting age is there for a reason and it isn't to "control power," as you state.
