  1. Looks like they will bring more than SMU brings to SMU.

  2. Hey, new here, recent Alum (class of 2018), will be in town for my first home game EVER, hoping to meet up with good people and cheer on the Mean Green. Not sure if this is a closed tailgate or not but Me and and my GF would love to contribute beer and snacks and hang out!

  4. August 28th update. 1. The Band will once again wear caps and polo shirts this week-end. However, I have been advised that khaki is out, and black shorts made of light(er) weight material will be worn. More consistency of color and a more breathable fabric. 2, There is going to be a real pregame starting with a North Texas based fanfare which was composed by the Director Dan Cook. Just this part is in itself historical because I've never heard the North Texas Band play a North Texas fanfare. The playing of the National Anthem will be performed whilst in the formation of a map of the US featuring an exaggerated outline of the State of Texas. The Band will then go into another formation, featuring the outline of the old curfew/victory Bell, to play the Alma Mater. Another thing the Band has never done. 3.There will be no new regular uniforms this year. Selecting the new uni's is a multi-month process involving a lot of meetings that is not expected to be finished until next February. Uniform-by-committee. God help us. 4. I've never observed previous GB's practice in the fall, so I can't asses their group personalities......only the product they put out on the field. This group is very hard working and very enthusiastic....at least toward their new director. I watched their first practice (because I was shut out of the final scrimmage) and they were close-by practicing, so I went over. The same thing this last Saturday (a week later). There was not a scrimmage at Apogee but I could hear the band practicing inside.......so I went in to observe. I started watching around 9:30 and near as I could tell, they had already been there for over an hour. The practice/rehearsal did not end until 12:00. And by then, they had been practicing in the heat (that was exacerbated by the artificial turf) for probably over four hours. And they did this without anything but the personal water containers that they carried in. There was no ice, no shade, and no large fans to help cool them off during breaks. And there was not one word of complaint from anyone. Not the Band members and not the staff. The only thing that the athletic department provided for them was access to Apogee stadium. 5. The Band seems to really like their new Director. So much so that they gave him a nickname......Chef. 6. What the Band is doing this year (a real pre-game) is going to be more crowd-participation-friendly than just about any version of the Green Brigade that I've seen in......well.......a very long time......if ever. BE IN YOUR SEATS FOLKS BY THE TIME IT ALL BEGINS. Let's kick our old tradition of being "fashionably late" to the curb.

  6. I bought my tickets for this game yesterday. I can't wait. This will be my first UNT game since the 2013 bowl game. Life took over after college. I moved about 1.5 hours away, had kids, and work nights and weekends. I've requested time off for this game since I have some seniority now but even if I don't get the time off, I'll be at the game. I'll just go to work tired after. Win or lose it'll be a night to remember. I went to every home game in college except for when my brother got married which was Dunbar's last game in green. I can't wait to go to this game and I'll be taking my brother with me. GMG.

  8. I started listening to these guys recently. I think it’s a good listen. I especially like that they are calling for North Texas to go 11-1 and then beat FIU in the conference championship game. 10. I will be at the Woodlands vs Cy Fair game. DCTF has Cy Fair #14 in the state for 6A and The Woodlands #17. Should be a great game! Additionally, Jett Duncan and Kade Bond were named to the preseason All-Montomery County Team. https://www.yourconroenews.com/neighborhood/moco/sports/article/FOOTBALL-PREVIEW-All-Montgomery-County-Preseason-14382608.php#photo-16520465

  11. (1). What are it’s specs & dimensions? (2) Will Green Brigade get to practice in it? (3) What other varsity sports who might use it? (4) Will True Greenblood engaged couples get to use it for their Weddings & Receptions? (Some venues I’ve DJ’d weddings rent out for $10K to $15K! (Daddy’s got the bucks)!😆 (5) Your own question(s)❓ ❇️ On another front: I was looking at Apogee’s architect (HKS) promotion page & description of their creation,ie, or as NFL Hall of Famer Gil Brandt called it—a Taj Mahal of a college football stadium; anyway, HKS has it seating only 29,000. I remember RV originally wanted Apogee to be 35,000 capacity until budget cuts apparently changed that. • 30,500 seems to be the capacity in most publications. Maybe 29,000 actual seats, but Lordy, how many inside all the luxury suites & where the buffets are set up? ✅ No matter what, we have one helluva’ campus football stadium that was designed for expansion on the Student Section Side. GMG!

  14. Which begs the question...If we have to lose 1 Better to BEAT a P5 and lose to Houston or lose to the P5 and beat Houston? in this case I'm guessing beating Houston in front of a probable sold out Apogee would be more beneficial than beating another P5 on the road.

  18. I can't imagine that any ACU football fan holds any hope of us beating UNT -- I was at the game at Troy when we beat them a few years ago and I never imagined we could stay close to them. We are not as woeful as some on the board might think (like our friend MCMLXXX just posted), but we are realistic about how we will do in this game. ACU's task is give the Mean Green enough of a game to keep from being embarrassed and keep their starters on the field longer than the UNT coaches wish to see them. I undoubtedly think you are better than the Baylor team we faced last year. But, this year's ACU team appears to be considerably better than last year's team that finally found its footing after the UIW game -- going 4-2 after that game. The current 20.5 point spread is actually being a little kinder to ACU than I might have expected. If we can keep it to 20 points, I will be thrilled. So, being biased toward ACU, I will hope for a 41-21 score. And, as you can tell from my moniker, I am a huge track and field fan. It this was a dual meet between the Mean Green and ACU track teams, it would be a completely different story, particularly for the men's team.

  23. I think we'll learn much more about NTs defense than offense in this game. i expect Reeder to keep a good number of cards close to the vest for the games the 2 weeks after. It should be possible to score without giving the next opponents lots of info there. However on defense we will learn whether the basics are really already there in this game I suppose. Still should be an unquestioned win come the third quarter. If ACU can scare them a tiny bit however, to teach them that even less talented opponents need to be taken seriously when they scratch claw then that may be a good thing, not necessarily a bad one.

  30. Well, there you go. That makes saying motherfu*$%& in our fight song acceptable because Harvard and some other colleges did it. I guess it is acceptable to type it on here now. If it is so acceptable, then why do people use symbols when typing the word instead of just typing it out?

  37. All the starters get food poisoning before the ACU game leading us to lose by 1 on a last second 60 yard field goal. We then beat every single other team on our schedule by no less than 3 TDs. The ACU game is viewed as a one off due to the food poisoning and 1 point loss and then we make the final 4. Boom.

  41. A fellow Mean Greener & good friend has been touting BYU as an OOC foe at Apogee for years.I told him “we don’t have ample bicycle parking racks to handle their crowd.” 🙄 (Dad joke of the day—but why am I the only one laughing).🤔🙃 Seriously, there’d be Mormons all over the Apogee pre-game tailgate areas & they’d probably bring more of their DFW contingency to Denton than (maybe) UH will on 9/28. (Wouldn’t sell much beer, though). Bottom line truth be told is we all like the friendly banter with our opponents fans when they bring a few thousand to Apogee & it just makes for a more complete Game Day experience for all. After all, NCAA football is still of the entertainment genre & today’s students have to be entertained. ❓REMEMBER WHEN.....the SWC was still intact, how many of us old timers envied the “built-in” crowds SMU & TCU would get at their respective stadia when thousands of their conference-mates fans would come en mass to Dallas & Fort Worth? We never had that luxury in Denton in over 100+ years of NCAA football, but maybe one day we could for some OOC games. I’m beating a dead horse here & I know it, but what’s happened at UNT since Baker & Littrell arrived many of us who’ve seen everything in Denton except child birth never thought we’d live long enough to see what’s happening in the MG Village today. Never say never on further possibilities. Out. GMG!

  42. The triple option offense is antiquated and lends no help for the coaches or kids to play against. Not only will they never see that offense run outside of the service academies, but there is trapping/cutting/chop blocking EVERY SINGLE DOWN. That lends to more injuries, and the complete 180 they have to pull in order to prepare for them is a total mental drain as well, especially midseason. It may make sense for the fans, but Wren is clearly more concerned about his student athletes, and what makes sense for them, and I am completely grateful for that. I would much rather have a front 7 that doesn't have their knees blown out against a team that cuts them every play than travel to the Hudson valley once every other year
