  5. I have two North Texas football programs that I would gladly give to anyone who wants them, if they think that the program might have some significance to them or a family member. The first one is Sept 1, 1979 vs UTEP. It is Jerry Moore's first year as head coach and this was his first game. UNT (NTSU) won 35-0. On the cover it features Jerry Moore in his Hayden Fry era coaching outfit leaning on the railing at Fouts. That year North Texas was 5-6. The offensive starters for the Mean Green were listed as..... #2-Bruce Chambers-SE Defense #69- Jonathan Newton-LT #35- Bernard (Ali Baba) West- DE #61 Melvin Lark- LG #91- Charles Young- LT #54- Greg Davidson-C #93- Paul Kerestine- MG #71- Rudy Phillips-RG #98- Rick Hendrix- RT #72-Jim Lemming-RT #28- Jimmy Croft- RE #85- Ron Battle-TE #59- Mike Oliphant- SLB #8- Jordan Case-QB #87- Louis Haynes- WLB #16- Pete Harvey-WB #38- David Morris- SC #23- (the late and great)- Bernard Jackson-IB #45- Zac Cypert- SS #33- Lee English- FB...hmmm this name sounds familiar.....😎 #41- Marty Morrison-FS #47- Delano Thomas-WC The second one is the program for the 1982 UNT (NTSU) and University of New Mexico game on 10-30-82. It was Corkey Nelson's first year as head coach. It was an interesting year with some interesting back-against-the-wall coaching on Corky's part. We lost this game 17-20 on a last second hail mary in the end zone by NM. New Mexico ended up with a one loss season 10-1 and was anticipating a bowl invite. Starters for that game were, and the Defense #20, Marvin Richardson, SE, #84, Rayford Cooks, LT #76, Paul Schulze, #42, Milton Collins, NG #69, Dan Reeder, LG #73, James Wilson, RT #57, Toby Bowen, C #61, Ronnie Hickman, LB #77, Craig Agnew, RG #60, Lester Harper, LB #79, Zene Renfroe, RT #2, Mack Faggett, LB #83, Mark Witte, TE #44, Mike Hughes, LB #5, Greg Carter (5'9"X 167) QB #4, Phil Broadus, LC #26 Bobby Daniels, FB #12, Jack Ball, FS # 6, Carlen Charleston (5'6" X 161) RB #47, Efrem McGowan, SS #7, Marvin Walker, WB #3, Andre Mosely, RC The last game of this season was against Tulsa, who ended up #20 in the nation. They too were working for a Bowl Bid, and just about everyone expected a total blow out. I don't know if Greg Carer got hurt or if Corky decided Carter wasn't the ideal QB for his surprise game plan for Tulsa, but Rusty Hill started that last game. Mr Hill and #7 on your program, Marvin Walker, proceeded to make North Texas statistical history. The game plan was for Rusty Hill to do a Mason Fine imitation....Rusty Hill (doing his three step and throw routine) threw 61 times, completed 42, with 22 going to Marvin Walker. Tulsa was totally taken by surprise, and was back on their heels for most of the game, but eventually their two 1K rushers took their toll and the final score was 38-20. Some of the best coaching I've ever seen. PM me if you are interested in these game programs.

  12. Their composite ratings are 3 stars, but 247’s stand-alone rating for each of them is a 78. Rivals also rated them as 2-stars. The reason they have composite 3-Star ratings is because ESPN gives out 3-Star ratings to basically everyone.

  14. Brunner and Cassidy were both rated 2 stars by 247 and only had one other FBS offer each. Doesn’t mean they won’t be good, but I don’t see how that classifies as highly regarded. Byers had 4 other FBS offers and was rated a 3-Star on 247. He could qualify as highly regarded, depending on what your parameters on highly regarded are. Year before that it was Redfearn, Carroll, and Brown who all were 2 stars and all had zero other FBS offers. And none of them showed up on the 2-deep, which did have a 270 lb third-year sophomore at both backup tackle spots and a walkon at backup center. The other two guys on the 2-deep were a senior and a fourth-year junior. Need a few of the young guys to step up and show they can play on this level, preferably soon.

  16. My biggest long-term question mark about this roster is the future of the offensive line. The caliber of commits really hasn’t picked up the last two classes like it has at other positions, and there really are only two non-seniors on this roster who have made any noise since being on campus. Who is going to start on the line in 2020 besides Brammer and Mose? I get we’re still a year out but our 2020 class seems full on linemen, and none of those guys are very heralded recruits that seem like immediate contributor types.

  22. Louisiana Tech has traditionally recruited well, and I am happy to see them help raise the talent level for CUSA. I have a feeling that the UTSA signing class is going to be decimated if/when Frank gets canned this season. Their higher recruits are committed to play for him, not UTSA. They will bolt instantly, especially the recruits from Louisiana.

  24. 👍 ....and beating California would make for a great start in changing that ranking. The difference for Fine, if he ever makes it to an NFL team, will be what I observed in fall practice of his freshman year........he just oozed confidence from every pore. That goes a long way for a savvy coach.

  29. Not about La Tech, but 247 rankings make absolutely no sense. Look at the final 2018 for example. NT is ranked fourth behind two schools(Marshall, FAU) that are shown signing over 30 players. I wonder how 247 assumes that those schools are going to be substantially over the 25 signee limit. They also rank UAB higher than UNT. NT has a higher average player ranking than the first three and signed nothing but 3 stars. FaU and Marshall both signed five 2 star players and UAB signed six. I guess they defend their non-numeric based rankings on addressing needs, wind direction, or who they think provides more 247 fans.

  31. Do I think it was the right thing for Nike to do? No. Do I really care? No, I don't buy Nike's. New Balance has way better running shoes IMHO -- they fit my feet really well. I've worn them for about a decade now, and don't think I'll ever buy another brand. The worst are PUMA btw - never wear those.

  36. Dane Brugler just put out a way too early scouting rankings of senior QBs and had Mason Fine at 14th among senior QBs. This is as an NFL prospect, not a college QB. There weren't any notes on the reasoning, but I assume size is the main concern. Hopefully he won't get overlooked, but he will be a steal for someone if he does.

  37. Mason has a lot in his favor. He has started a lot of games, his production will get him more than a seriously look, and the height of the last two Heisman winners/#1 overall picks helps as well. It also helps with the way QB contracts are that if a team can get someone in the third or fourth round to be a starter, they can allocate their money everywhere else. So teams may feel impulsed to role the dice on Fine fairly early in the draft instead of writing him off as an UDFA. Mason just needs to keep doing what he does.

  38. The Conference USA benefits from a strong coaching base and a reasonably deep stable of contenders. Florida Atlantic, Southern Miss, UAB, Louisiana Tech and FIU will all have an argument to win the league this year.

Florida State, Washington State, Michigan State and Texas A&M are all serious schools approaching Renfro, and Florida State seems like it’s on the verge of extending the offer, even though it already has the commitment of No. 10 quarterback Jeff Sims.

  44. 1st year: Cooper Glen Apartments up on Locust w/ a roommate who was eventually kicked out for taking a dump in the hot tub. We had a morning final in World Lit (Lyceum), then went to a Rangers day game that was also Dollar Hot Dog day. Went crazy on dogs, then came back and stopped at the Howdy Doody 7-12 on Locust with my buddy's fake ID... Then, full of hot dogs, beer, and the white russians we made (Lebowski had just come out), we hung out in the hot tub in the summer heat for hours. He wasn't allowed back on the premises after that 🤷‍♂️ 2nd year: Ramsgate down on Bernard, small one bedroom. The place was old as hell even then (1999 or so), but by god it was my own place and had a racquetball court on site!! I know it's called something else now, one of the many places in Little D with a trendy nightclub sounding ass name. Years 3-4.5: Pace's Crossing off 288 and Colorado. This place was the best. Wall sized mirror in the dining room, and a little "study" with french doors off the living room where i set up my desk and blueberry iMac. Pretty much lived my best life at this place... Did all my NTTV Sports stuff, worked part time at the Hastings right down Colorado, and I took years off my life eating at Red Pepper's twice a week. Did the Y2K new year's here, and my first year I dated a redhead hooters girl who's now a damn doctor. I sure effed that one up. The last few months I met a blonde who lived next-door and Jefferson Commons, and she ended up as wife #1. Really shoulda stuck with Hooters... that's a lesson for the kids out there. But anyway, hell yeah Pace's Crossing!

  45. Bottom Line - Nike does not care what you think. Period. A U.S. consumer boycott of Nike will do absolutely ZERO good...just like 99.9% of all so-called consumer boycotts. One wonders just how much of Nike's total revenues come from U.S. consumer purchases? I am thinking not enough for them to truly care about. Seems to me that today, most of their revenue come from overseas and team purchases. It does, however, amaze me that any corporation would want to alienate a rather large portion of what consumer purchase potential they do have in the U.S. Seems like such a counterproductive business decision. But, again...one wonders if Nike hasn't just decided it would rather play politics than sell shoes?
