I feel like the narrative online is omitting some key points: - the family that owns this property is wealthy, so it is not like they don’t have the ability to move nearby. The son is interviewed but I believe the father owns the property and the tax info fowards to a million dollar home. - despite this wealth this whole section of four buildings has not had meaningful investment in forever, the buildings and pavement are in poor shape and that is being generous. - they are being offered $700k almost triple the tax value for a small building built in the 60’s. So school bullies young hard working owner is the easy narrative to write but I feel there is a more accurate one that hasn’t been put forth.5 points

Did you ever try that sushi place that folded a few years back that was over near the fry area. I loved it. Who doesn’t miss the chicken tendies from State Club?!? Also, did anyone ever go to the food truck the Angry Friar ( the double decker bus) back in 2011?! I was in love with those fish and chips.4 points

This writer acts as if these CUSA, AAC, MAC, MWC programs chose this path rather than it being politically chosen for them in the name of greed. These P5 columnists/journalists/etc. only live in the confines of their cushy bubble. Then they have the audacity to look down on the 'peasants' as if they chose their current destination.3 points

I know how we hate college eateries and dislike keeping anything charming, memorable or traditional nearby our campus so that on game day we have to muddle through that lovely cesspool out on University to get a bite to eat, but let’s tabulate, three of my favs..... No more... State Club The Tomato The Texas Pickup, Who else? Rick3 points

A couple thoughts..,, The Arkansas win was huge. I don’t care if it was a down year for them. We’ve played so many SEC teams that were ranked 1-5 , it was time to get one on a down year and we took advantage of it. Great win for the Mean Green in hostile territory. Would schools leave the AAC to join the MWC or is it the the other way around. Maybe you’d never get movement between the two, but I can guess which way would be the most likely. Either would be a step up, but I like the current C-USA west.3 points

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why I don’t care for the name of that bean bag game played at tail gate parties. 6 for Heisman GO MEAN GREEN3 points

Local paper is recommending that Temple follow UConn: https://www.pennlive.com/sports/2019/06/with-return-to-big-east-uconn-raises-white-flag-in-chase-for-power-five-status-temple-should-do-the-same.html2 points

I think a new location could be strategically placed on that side of campus maybe within whatever we are planning. To me there needs to be some places to eat in that area due to all the dorms now being in that part of campus. And I have eaten at that place before Kenny had to change the name. I lived at the sig ep house down the street and probably ate there 3-4 times a week. I had many friends that worked there. And yes Jeff had my order working before I got through the turnstile. And with some funny smartass remark about how I like my #18. So creative minds should be able to come up with a good solution for them and a way for us to make that area a much better campus. How a about an eating retail area built onto the development? Maybe an outdoor mall area. Too far to walk to Fry for everything. Also would be a cool place for pregame if you do not tailgate. That area is walkable to stadium.2 points

Ha! Just saw that Benson resigned from his Sun Belt position last year. https://www.underdogdynasty.com/sun-belt-conference/2018/8/15/17695114/sun-belt-conference-commissioner-karl-benson-steps-down-what-is-his-legacy-football2 points

I understand fighting for more money from the university... but I don’t see how if they have a successful biz that they can’t move it somewhere close to the university and still imitate their model.2 points

Re: the value of the operations if everyone likes the place so much moving nearby shouldn’t affect them greatly & a nicer/bigger location could even improve their sales. I am not anti Subhub and I’m sympathetic to the history of the place. I just felt like it’s fair to consider both sides.2 points

I think we are FINALLy seeing the crack in the wall for the far-flung G5 conferences. The MWC and the MAC have it right. So do some of the divisions, like ours in CUSA. But the days of UConn accepting a league that has them playing a conference game in Wichita, Tulsa, Dallas, Houston, and New Orleans was always bound to fall apart, when the sport they care the most about was used to playing NE teams for decades.2 points

It would be best for college football for all (G5) schools to maintain healthy, financially secure and viable sports programs. I don’t see (P5) working in a vacuum. Money is the name of the game but tv revenue should be spread around. Certainly we have to raise our own funds and do a better job with gate revenue. But for me we are still part of the overall college agenda and need to find a way to live with the much higher profitable schools. Or I may be crazy and just trying to have us hang on in some form or fashion to div 1 programs1 point

Not much elaborate about it. @Travis mentions the Iowa State chicken tenders--they were top notch. Tender and juicy, served with your choice of honey mustard or ranch. IIRC, pretty good burgers, hot wings, and...club sandwiches(?) I don't know, something about my time spent in there makes me not remember too much of it.1 point

Someone tell me about the elaborate cuisine at State Club. I came to Denton only in time to sample their nickel beers. Never did try their food in time before they closed.1 point

Location, location and location, the three most important things when considering where to put a store. They get a lot of walk-in customers to the store. They won't be able to be close to UNT now and that is most of their business. They pay taxees, UNT not so much. I love UNT but I disagree with this move. I don't care if they are rich, they built the business and if that helped get rich more power to them. Denton will soon be like Amarillo all the national restaurants and no local flavor. Oh yeah it makes me so proud when I drive by Sack n Save and see the UNT name on it. They should have just left the sign off the building. UNT could have done Denton a big favor and taken over the land in cement city and built something new. BTW how many of you actually live here in Denton?1 point

The club? Your bastard of a team is coming to Denton in a couple months. Not to mention a 10-year H/H with SMU. I think we've made out fine. The real club doesn't have the likes of UH and SMU. The real club is the one UH begged to get in but was denied.1 point

Pretty sure UCF is swinging the big rocker in the AAC. Temple sucks and ESPN will soon realize the giant mistake they made.1 point

Houston and North Texas should talk about a conference without the dead weight privates. Form a league of Texas rising programs Florida rising programs an Arkansas state which always bring it perhaps a la tech and southern miss, a Cincinnati - groom a league strong enough to survive and ready to absorb a Baylor tcu Kansas state if the time comes a calling. GMG1 point

Big East should add Wichita State to make 12 team conference. Also gives Creighton a partner.1 point

So if a FSU fan is reaching out and telling him to go to FSU. Does that mean he got offered? Otherwise why would he care?1 point

Temple could park their program in cusa or sun belt and play national championship hoops in the Big East. It would be a smart move for them. GMG1 point

I am not sure conferences care about tv packages as much as they used to. It certainly hasn’t served us that well in CUSA.1 point

I personally think we could go 10-2. However, I also believe we are capable of beating anyone on our schedule if we do not start reading all the hype and stay focused. I see a possible loss against UH and Cal. UH because defensively we really struggle against mobile QBs and King is as mobile as they come. Cal because of the travel distance, time zone change, and the fact they watched the Ark game last year and know that they cannot underestimate us because we are North Texas. Not saying that Ark underestimated us, but the media certainly did. The belief was that a bad Ark team would beat us because they are SEC and we are just North Texas. That's why it was so satisfying to watch the Mean Green beat the brakes off of them.1 point
