I was talking to a guy I know who played LB at SMU just after the Death Penalty. I asked him if he pays any attention to SMU much these days and he was quite frank in saying no. I asked why and he said, "Look, I went to SMU when we were in the SWC. I played Texas, Arkansas, A&M, Tech, and Baylor, plus teams like Notre Dame in OOC play. I've tried to care after that, but its impossible to care about anyone on our schedule except for TCU and maybe Houston." I told him that as a North Texas guy, this was a big game every year and we have it about as good as we ever have had it, conference wise, as well as playing SMU every year. He didn't even know we played them in OOC. He just shook his head and said, "And people wonder why nobody follows SMU anymore..." Arrogance meeting apathy...only thing I agreed with him about was that this was an incredible fall from the top of FBS to not even being thought of anymore in the college football world. Couldn't have happened to a better group of a$$holes.9 points

I hate to see that. So many kids can’t get qualifying scores and end up at these JUCO’s9 points

White on white with the white helmet and green wings. I like it for a hot August evening, plus they are one of my favorite uniforms.5 points

Been to SD several times and I am actually here right now. Their campus is very nice. It has the typical southwest look to it, light tan buildings with red roof shingles throughout. It sits inland up on a plateau that overlooks Mission Valley with perimeter panoramic views. All of their athletic facilities are very nice and centrally located on campus, outside of dilapidated Qualcomm. If they do actually get their own stadium and if it's located on campus, this university is going to take of athletically. They are in a very sound position right now.5 points

In the past 10 seasons SMU has played: Annual Conference games vs.. Houston Navy Rice (till 2012) Non Conference vs: Baylor Tcu Texas A&M Texas Tech Michigan Pitt Washington St Army Anyone who chose to walk away from their school over that schedule was never going to support in the first place. I got bored and started watching the Arkansas highlights again today (unfortunately, not as much was done for the SMU game). I'm so pumped for this year... It seems like it could be a huge turning point for the University. While I don't want to be predicting where we could end up, I just keep telling myself to enjoy the last year of Mason Fine. How lucky are we to have this guy? Looking at those early game plays, you could see Easley getting into a rhythm and hopefully he'll be able to compliment Torrey this year. Bussey could end up being the greatest receiver to ever play at UNT. Behind him are Darden and Lawrence, probably two #1 receivers at any other CUSA school. Muhammad and Robinson will be anchoring the D... On top of that, we are going to start seeing more and more of Littrell's recruits come into play (remember when we used to only have like 1 d-lineman that weighed more than 240?). I'm looking forward to something special this year... while trying to savor it.3 points

I care about one thing this season. A sold out Championship game at the App. With our schedule and the talent on this team this year could be our best shot!3 points

DRC: Can UNT jump past the Mustangs in the national class rankings this year? https://www.dentonrc.com/sports/checking-on-on-the-dfw-recruiting-war-between-unt-and/article_82ba9778-938d-55b7-90d0-5d167d0153fe.html2 points

I don’t understand the animosity towards SMU. Every year they provide six schools with a home game in the heart of Dallas where they can play in front of DFW recruits. If that’s not humanitarianism, I don’t know what is.2 points

Certainly something to aspire towards but a couple elements make their situation different from ours: 1. Regional P5 schools are largely from the Big 12 and are guaranteed regular visits to the metroplex to face TCU. Absent this, we might have a greater shot at selling them on a chance to play in front of area recruits. 2. The Pac 12 as a group have prioritized lessening exposure to FCS squads and "overpaying to avoid the return game... "for one-off home games against lower-level Division I opposition has become costly. Top Power 5 schools frequently pay more than a million dollars to have an opponent come to their stadium with no return road game. Also, Scott said, Pac-12 schools have a difficult time drawing fans for games against lesser competition." Source: https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/26651035/no-plans-change-schedule-philosophy I think that if we continue to see success of the field and build a reputation in line with what SDSU has, we'll have opportunity. We have Cal coming in 2022, Memphis in 2023, Texas Tech in 2027, and Baylor in 2028...we're moving in the right direction. Source: https://fbschedules.com/ncaa/north-texas/2 points

I don't ever remember seeing this many commits, recruit others as much as I've seen this year for us.2 points

Ahh yes, the game where the MUTS QB got hit so hard his helmet flew off! It's going to look a lot better from the alumni side, seeing that bottom part of the stadium filling up.2 points

Lol.. I remember that game against UTSA at apogee 13' towards the end of the season there. The student section was roasting and clowning every player at that bench. I remember their players flipping us off after the game ended. That's part of "home field advantage" Our fans getting into the player's heads.2 points

then why did you even log-in, let alone respond to a GMG thread on D-Day? shouldn't you have been out there rememberancing? I don't think anyone who stormed those beaches 75 years ago had the chance to be sanctimonious and self-righteous on an internet forum, so why don't you try and show some respect? Asshat.2 points

@FirefightnRick, no sir, this is great news. When has North Texas had anyone involved at this level? @SilverEagle, exactly. Smatresk, Baker and the entire team in place right now is like nothing we have ever experienced.2 points

$250 million for 35,000 seats. Man, did we ever get a deal on Apogee.1 point

Having seen what roundabouts have done here in Conway on our 2 major arterials, they are much more effective than lights as far as traffic movement, now cost has to be looked at long term, but had a rounadbout replace a light on a US Highway thru town and what once meant sitting for 5-10 min at a light now traffic flows smoothly, also slows down cars. As for the potential for more accidents, one can not fix stupid or piss poor drivers.1 point

I probably should've clarified that it was my first season as a student at UNT. I was technically a junior at that point, either way it made me a fan for life1 point

---The state provides less funding to public schools and colleges than it once did .....meanwhile gives businesses tax cuts... This was especially true in the Gov. Perry era. (no fan of him) ... The state once provided over 60% to public schools and now it is about 35% or less. I can't remember exact numbers but my enrollment bill at NTSU or UNT in 1964 was in the area of $100-$150... not counting housing and food or books .. most books cost me about $15 or about $120 in 2019 dollars... (min wage was $1.15 then.).1 point
