  2. Obviously you haven't paid attention to previous Winter Classics. I guarantee they get more than any First Responder Bowl to date.

  4. I grew up about 90 miles east of Chicago, so I was exposed to hockey at an early age. I have fond memories of first seeing hockey in person when I attended some Dallas Blackhawks games after moving to Dallas for work. It is great fun pounding on the glass and hollering insults! Try it sometime and your interest level will likely increase.

  6. Back to the First Responders Bowl taking place at Ford Stadium.... Imagine UNT being selected for that bowl game against whoever. Now imagine game day with one of the end zones re-painted(?) in green and NORTH TEXAS in white. SWEET!! And smut not qualifying for a bowl. It would tear the heart out of all smut fans.

  8. I admit I was being a little bitchy. As you know it takes a decent amount of time to track offers and quite honestly I was feeling a little put out being asked to show the offers when it is publicly available info.

  9. Easy there. I was just posting the six listed on 247 for @Danish43. Including us, he would have 7, but they don't have our's posted either.

  11. No doubt this is a member of the UNT 17 that got swindled by RV...
    2 points
  12. Yeah, RV couldn’t even get the FCS scheduling part right. F’ing Portland State, Rhode Island, Bethune-Cookman, Lamar, Houston Baptist, Incarnate Word, etc...all Dumb opponents for us to play. There are exactly 3 FCS schools to schedule to get people to show up in Denton—SFA, Sam Houston, or Grambling. He avoided all of them

  13. Can we play Grambling rather than Rhode Island? Would love to see their band at Apogee

  14. Now that football season is starting I would like to hear the board's opinion of who is UNT's rival for football? I know many may say it is SMU, but a rivalry is two ways. They don't rate us. We are the poor public school kids. They are the douche bags who paid private school prices for a public school education. As much as I would love a rumble with the South Side Socs, I mean what would be cooler than beating a guy and getting to say "stay gold pony boy" (forgive The Outsiders references). Outside of the illegality of a rumble, the ponies just wouldn't show. We aren't in their universe. So I pose the question, who is our rival? For me it cannot be UTSA. That gives them a certain legitimacy that I just can't stomach. We have been playing football for over 100 years, albeit mostly badly, but this johnny come lately just can't justify the visceral response that a rival brings. UTEP has regional rivals in UNM and NMSU, and they are UTEP (before you hate on me I am from El Paso. UTEP sucks). Perhaps we need to create one? My vote is LA TECH. Why? Because I know nothing about them. But what I do know: They are an established Div 1 program that is road trip distance from Denton, Texas. Sure so is Rice, but no one cares about RIce. Maybe LA TECH already has a rival like UL-Lafayette, or Louisiana Monroe. I don't know. But I think there is a chance would could build something... Anyways looking forward to the group's opinions. GMG!

  17. My former high school played against Mount Vernon. We were a diverse school, and they were not. When they played this past year, I heard their players were using racial slurs against my high schools players. The game was so chippy that they had a post game meeting between the refs and coaches from each team. The head coach before Art literally left for a job 15 mins down the road at Winnsboro. I have heard Mount Vernon is like any small town from East Texas. The school board is full of “good ole boys”. There are people from Mount Vernon defending this hire on the East Texas sports forum. They are trying to argue that he had a clean record at Stephenville, and he didn’t get charged with any crimes. I’m glad I moved away from back woods East Texas.

  18. Hambone! I know he is playing well and is a pre pick for all conference, but I want to see him get to the level of the DE with La Tech that dominated that game. He has all the measurables for the pro game! GMG

  19. Luckily there is less (not necessarily none though) recruiting going on at the high school level. I wonder if the punishment to have to go back to the high school ranks is accurate, and likelyit is not. But I can kind of live with it, as I am sure he feels the loss of renome acutely. Still I would seriously hope that Mt. Vernon keeps a very attentive eye on its football programs (read not just the players) demeanor off the field at all times. That said, if I were on the board at a high school, I probably would have said let some other school take that man on. Even if he is succesful on thefield, hiring him is not a message I would want to have to explain to the Moms and girls and media in my school district.

  20. From a purely NCAA perspective, these two situations are polar opposites. While Penn State was awful, their indiscretions had no bearing or benefit to the product on the field. Baylor on the other hand was done to keep kids on the field making their indiscretions directly related to the product on the field. It would seem to me the NCAA would be much more with in their rights to sanction Baylor over Penn State.

  23. Would have been great to get the game at Apogee. However, I'll sacrifice it at the Cotton Bowl for a year for the Winter Classic. It's become a huge deal, and this is great exposure for the league, the state, the city, and the Cotton Bowl. And the Stars' opponent are the Nashville Predators. Their fans are die hard, and they are pretty much our rivals. Their is no love loss between the two teams. Nashville will bring a bunch of fans too. Make no mistake, this is a MASSIVE HUGE deal. And it will sell out, if it hasn't already. When I bought my tickets the evening of the first day they were on sell, there were nose bleed seats going for over a thousand dollars.

  26. Fun fact. When I attended a conference at McMurray eons ago (around 2001) the students from ACU and Hardin Simmons told me that their officials would check the bar parking lots for university parking stickers. If you were identified as being at a bar, you had to report to the Dean of Students. We naturally gave them a ride to the bar with us.

  32. The new Ole Miss AD won't be able to build, they have a new $100 million hoops arena. They also have renovated their atheltic center and football stadium for another $75 million. That doesn't include their basketball practice facility, which cost more than our IPF. Despite this investment their basketball team routinely finishes 6-8th in the SEC and the new coach is under contract for another four years. In football they finished went 1-7 in league play finishing 6th of 7 teams in their division. They are on NCAA probation & scholarship limits and Luke is under contract until 2021. Bjork was great on the business side and there's probably not much to improve there. He more than doubled athletics revenue coming into the school. A new AD would not be able to do much of anything for about three years unless they raised a buyout war chest for football. WB could show immediate improvement at UNT because we needed the trifecta: better facilities, coaches/staff, and business operations/fundraising. The current University leadership, AD and staff have all aligned to fuel the this improvement. We can now say we have a resource advantage over our CUSA peers and many G5 teams. A transition like we have seen here is more difficult for Ole Miss because of the SEC arms race and WB knows this. Not a dig at Ole Miss, more of a compliment to the SEC. An AD gets hired for showing clear improvement and raising the stock of a schools programs, it is not a given that someone could show that at Ole Miss. How likely is it that they supplant LSU, Florida, A&M, Auburn, Bama etc. Why take that career risk when your stock is on the rise and the money is comparable?

  33. Possibly so. Wouldn't hurt to maybe see what the monetary figures would be and ask for their blessing. If they're cool with it, do it. If not, don't.

  44. Sorry, just defending my school because Ryan Muthie makes it sound like SMU is nothing but white people holding KKK rallies, and I'm a minority. SMU still has work to do with increasing the black enrollment as highlighted in the DMN article but Hispanic, Asian and International enrollments are inline with national averages.

  45. Or maybe because you went to the game wanting to see those stereotypes?? Of course you can walk up and down the boulevard and find a group of rich d-bags acting like idiots if you try to. They definitely exist and you can find them but they also exist at UNT, TCU, Baylor or name any other school. A majority of the SMU people tailgating are welcoming and friendly people.
