Andrew you are a great fan but some of these posts are head scratchers my friend. Did Benford ever sign a quality guy from Guyer? I’ll hang up and listen. This cycle Grant has literally landed our second highest rated recruit of the past decade, a nationally ranked JuCo point guard and a key player from a NCAA tourney team.5 points

What if the defense just gets a sack on every single opponent snap? I think that puts all this discussion to rest.3 points

Well, of course we don't want to lower the bar to the point of perpetually celebrating mediocrity, but isn't some context in this case relevant? What exactly were we expecting from him when he took over an absolute salvage job? In my opinion, even if it had taken him 50 games to get to 20, that still would have been a minor miracle. If the bar is lower than during previous eras, then that is because of those previous eras (or, one era in particular).2 points

I bet this is a result of the old guard putting the tab for Apogee in the athletics budget. No other schools do this and it was a mistake. That decision has directly lead to articles like these and the “debt” one in the school paper.2 points

Can this be true..?? https://www.sportsmanagementdegreehub.com/the-universities-that-spend-the-most-on-athletics/ Really stepping up supporting our athletes!1 point

No, but it showed he was invested. He also went there to scout other players. I know high school head coaches who talked to him quiet a bit. Mcasland has yet to be seen/heard from. I believe grant can coach these guys up, but from a recruiting stand point I am not too impressed. Hopefully it pans out and we look great this year.1 point

Shhhhhhhhhhhhh, all of you. NFL pro scouts read these message boards.1 point

If Grant is "overrated", how come he was scheduled to interview for the TCU job before Dixon decided to stay. He has the program headed in the right direction. I'm sure he and his staff go to a lot of area HS games that no one knows about. Just my opinion.1 point

I agree. It’s been said by many different people that it will never happen again. Just too much money in college football for the NCAA to do that. The NCAA is about making money.1 point

I think he’s a little too high on this list. He will definitely be a late round draft pick next year. A team will take a chance on him in the 5th or 6th round. No risk, all reward.1 point

Did not know that black was a school color and did not know that Eagles was replaced with Mean Green in 1966...both seem wrong to me. We were Eagles long past 1966 and black has never officially been a school color.1 point

I don’t think Mason is quick enough. Amazing where he is ranked! Congrats!1 point

Baylor isn’t out of the woods just yet on this. The NCAA has them ready to pounce if they can ever get all the Pepper Hamilton report in their hands. I still maintain that Baylor, just like SMU in 1985, is the perfect piñata for the NCAA to beat down on. They don’t matter at all, won’t ever go to another conference, and they have nobody who gives one shit about them to help them in the media or in the NCAA.1 point

I want nothing more than to see Fine walk of the field with a CUSA title and bowl win this year, so I would have accepted a recruiting approach that focused on immediate contribution. That said, what the staff's focus on high school players says to me is: The coaches are confident in the depth they've developed and that the program has players ready to step into vacated roles Littrell did not turn down KState and stay in Denton with a distracted, "one more and done" mindset For those reasons, I'm glad they have recruited the way they have.1 point

I believe OC Reeder does a lot of variation in his tempo. And he does variation for just this reason. Also to know when the D is gassing and when they're prepped with right personnel. It's not full throttle from start to end.1 point

If we switch to more of a hurry up offense, I can pretty much guarantee that statistically the defense will look much worse this year. I would bet that defensive coordinators privately hate hurry up offenses in general, because they do artificially inflate the defensive stats (except for things like yards per play).1 point

And I agree with it. Demand will exceed supply when this philosophy is initiated and prices will therefore increase. These schools can cut the size of their venues which in hand cuts back on maintenance issues, employee overhead, etc. while being able to maintain or almost maintain revenue flow with smaller facilities. It also creates a more intimate environment that pushes excitement. Why not do this.1 point

I didn't mind that. He seemed engaged with his group and was able to captivate them. Didn't like the shorts and what not, but I am sure his band loved it. Never met the guy, but from afar he seems like a genuine good dude.1 point

It certainly is...they really changed it for the better. 👍1 point

High School & develop. Take JUCO & transfers only at spots of immediate need (like Plantin), or if they’re off-the-charts good & we can get them here (like Guyton).1 point
-
I don’t really buy into the JUCO heavy philosophy. UAB was JUCO heavy last season, weren’t really head and shoulders above us, and lost a TON of seniors after what I think will be their once in a half decade year on top. If we have a glaring need then maybe you take JUCO’s sparingly. Otherwise, just improve the level of HS kids we sign.1 point

Not a McCasland fan I take it.1 point
-
Sadly enough it appears he did not develop as the team needed him to. I guess that is part on the coaches, part on the player. So far MacCaslands capacity in player evaluation before they hit the campus seems not to be equal to his tactical and motivational acumen.1 point

It has gotten to where I dislike Baylor more than smuT these days. smuT is basically irrelevant, but Baylor got in to the Big XII because of political clout, has proven they will go for the win at all cost, is a good school, but many of their alumni leave a lot to be desired.1 point

I too question he ability to recruit. Benford was at many Guyer games during his tenure talking with coaches and players. In two years Mcasland hasn’t been once. I understand we aren’t going to land their big guys, but taking the time to visit/invest is important. Hopefully Grant picks up on this because his ability to recruit has been laughable. 🤷🏼♂️ Side Note: I bleed green and will support Grant just like I did Tony, but UNT basketball really needs a pick me up. I question this season/recruiting group, but I hope they prove me wrong.0 points

BAM. #3 smallest on the list with the QB from Central Florida. Could he play QB, or would the try and move him to flanker like Edelman0 points
