  4. This loss to Port St was a turning point for the football program. The loss was humiliating, but the immediate firing of Mc and eating the balance of his salary showed a change was coming. What if we beat PS and go 500 that year would we be enjoying today’s success? Was the loss worth it? A lot of pain for a lot of gain. GMG

  8. APRIL 20th - SATURDAY - 11:00am Start - PEB FIELD! It's On! OK...We are back on! We will be playing the Spirit Kickball Classic next Saturday, April 20th, on the PEB Field at UNT. Same start time as originally planned...11:00AM. For those not sure where the PEB Field is located it is at NORTH TEXAS BLVD and Chestnut St. You can park in Fouts and just cross the street to the field. It is that big open field across from the Rec Center. So...no stands, so bring a lawn/sports type chair for your use if you are playing and/or watching. If you have extras...sure bring them along...we could use them. We will set the silent auction up on tables as well as the concession stand. If you have already signed up to play...you are "good to go"...no need to re-register. If you are now abailable to play and would like to...just use the following link: https://one.unt.edu/annual-spirit-classic If you can't play, but would like to donate, the following link is available: https://one.unt.edu/annual-spirit-classic-donation-page So, come on out...got some new donation items from athletics just this week...a UNT barbeque set (really cool spatula, tongs and knife set), a small wooden (with Mean Green logo) wine/beer cooler and TWO HUB CLUB tickets to the 2019 MEAN GREEN opener against ACU on 8/31/19. So, silent auction is shaping up nicely. Come on out...check out the game and silent auction. It is going to be fun and will certainly help out some very deserving Mean Green Student athletes. ON...and at this point...weather forecast looks great for the 20th...79 degrees and sunny! Yippeeeeee!!!! Keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

  9. First pitch is scheduled for 6 in Denton but with the severe weather being called for I could see this game either getting moved up or canceled. If it’s played we need to hammer them. Rick

  17. I just wonder “what kind of year could we have had in 2013 if Mason was the QB.” I think we beat Tulane and nUTSAck that year, host the CUSA title game and perhaps win the conference title.

  18. Who would of thought that a little guy from Pigeon Forge Oklahoma would grow into the most prolific passer in North Texas History and potentially a house hold name nationally by the end of his career!! WOW I though he was gonna be good but he crushed my expectations!!

  19. It hard to believe how far we have come in such a short period of time especially at the QB position! Top 10 nationally!!! Really! Congrats to all! GMG

  23. 10. MASON FINE, NORTH TEXAS (Photo: Jerome Miron, USA TODAY Sports) 2018 stats: 303-of-469, 3,793 yards, 27 touchdowns, 5 interceptions 2019 expectations: Kicking off the Top 10 is one of the most underrated players nationally, a quarterback who will likely leave the Mean Green after his senior season as the best in program history. Overcoming the loss of play-caller Graham Harrell, who was instrumental in Fine's development, will be a challenge, however. New offensive coordinator Bodie Reeder has increased the tempo a bit, something Fine said recently his teammates have adjusted to well during the spring. Fine has an opportunity to exceed 10,000 yards passing and 100 touchdowns at North Texas if his senior season is comparable to his past two as the Mean Green's starter. https://247sports.com/college/north-texas/LongFormArticle/Trevor-Lawrence-Tua-Tagovailoa-Jalen-Hurts-college-football-quarterbacks-2019-Alabama-Oklahoma-Georgia-131124138/#131124138_4

  26. Well, this would be ideal. We would basically be combining our best offensive player in school history (MF would do well with some of those 2013 weapons, even in that dinosaur offense) with our best defense over the last decade. I believe that UGA game in 2013 in this scenario would be a fun one too. Could've been a table running type year. We need to get some guys like that back in here that are blood thirsty; Orr, Akunne, Abbe, Sarge, Trice, Lee, etc. We have some guys that sort of fit that mold, but philosophies can bring out the best in players or it can expose all of their weaknesses. We are setup right now to feast or famine on defense and the 3-3-5 tends itself to be a little more finesse and softer. The constant running of base 4-3 puts itself out there on display and tells the opponent, "Here we are, come get it." That 2013 was such a bland team to watch, but the defense may have been more entertaining to watch than the offense and that's rare air in the 21st century.

  27. This is 100% speculation. King is a true dual threat type guy. It's all philosophy of the coaching staff that determines what brand of football they want their QB playing. Mike Leach or any disciple of would take Mason Fine over King most days. Urban Meyer or any disciple of would take King over Mason Fine most days. When you're not too busy blatantly trolling, you talk in sweeping generalizations too much on here.

  28. As a Track and Field guy, all of those times are mediocre at best. The 11.55 is ungodly slow. You would not even make it out of your high school district meet with that time. I ran faster than 23.28 as a freshman in high school so that is seriously slow. The 21.40 is your best time in this group and that would not even get you past the regionals in high school. At 100 meters, you need to be 10.4 or faster. At 200 meters, you need to be 21 flat or better. At 400 meters, you should be 47 high at least. The long jump should be at least 22'.

  29. I would suggest it was a turning point, but not the turning point. With the funding in place, we would be fine. For the same reasons Wren was not worried when KSU came sniffing around: we are bigger than any individual coach. Bigger than Mac (of course), but also bigger than SL. Wren is about as good as you can get (except for the Benford decision), but I find it hard to believe he's the only AD that can run a successful program in Denton. After some thought, I think answering the original post is contingent on how highly you think of SL + Wren (and everything that comes with them). This is a golden era of NT athletics, so do you think it happens with them specifically and no other possible coaches/ADs?

  32. I'd rather have saved the record-setting embarrassment and just fired McCarney at the end of the year. It's not like we were going to win many (any?) more anyway that season to bring him back. Smatresk was already well aware of what was happening by then. And it's certainly not like McCarney would still be here if that loss didn't happen. We likely would have hired Littrell that offseason regardless.
