  1. Re-watching this great win over the past few nights. So much I could say about the game...first two quarters the Razorbacks shot them selves in the foot...our offense struggled at times...defense and special teams really stepped up, and I’m not talking about the fake fair catch - Arkansas ‘ starting field position and penalty after penalty really took their toll...both teams committed too much penalties. But In the 3rd we settled in and really took it to them. Our offense began to impose its will on the Razorbacks defense...several great receptions for long yardage...also some great rushes. What a quality win. SEC wins are hard to come by for the Mean Green historically. Watching the game again I see how fantastic this win was for our program, regardless of Arkansas’ record at the end of the season. Remember this win. Special season and team for our Mean Green. Sometimes I forget how awesome this win was for us...9 wins is such a great accomplishment, especially wins over Arkansas and SMU - certainly Arkansas who would’ve gladly used us as a primer a few years ago for their “real” schedule. Someone pointed out on another thread how our non-conference shedule in the past was so much more difficult, and I agree. It’s what makes this win so special. Really proud of these young men and the coaches. Screw the hogs. Great to see our Mean Green beat em down. Great to re-watch it again. And again. Go Mean Green.

  3. 1. Fine WON the reps in practice during his Freshman year. He's a better QB. 2. Wasn't Harrell also coaching QS and the others? 3. I'm willing to bet that if QS got every single rep with the 1's (which is what I think you mean... because he's certainly not just standing around for every single practice), he would still be way less effective than Fine. Not a knock on QS, rather, heaping praise on our school's greatest QB of All-time. Are we really having this conversation? We may not see another QB that can do "the things Fine can do" in our lifetime. Soak it up for 1 more year! 4. Backup QBs only get in for mop-up duty or injury anywhere. Not just here. If you're up big, you're not going to call a bunch of pass plays. And I'm willing to bet that quite a few of the plays QS "took off" on, were pass plays. He's a runner, that's what he did. Came in handy VS FAU, as they continued to defend against him like a passer & he shredded them. UTSt was obviously a little more prepared for that. 5. You're vastly overrating my love life over the past 2 years. I will say though, that if some aged, loud woman barged into my bedroom asking me to rock her world, she would be beaten nearly to death & dragged out before I could even say anything because my wife enjoys my suffering.

  5. Paging @FirefightnRick I'll step back and grab my popcorn now. EDIT: Just my $.02, having deceptive pre-snap movement and tricky running plays incorporated into your Air-Raid playbook cannot be a bad thing.

  6. Criticizing the teaser headline is one thing, using that as an example of an entire paper's coverage is another. I think the supporting criticism brought forth in this thread by the OP and others is woefully short of the claims put forth. Also, given the paper has to resort to reprinting the Sports Information-provided game story is evidenced that any bad coverage are likely mistakes borne of a tiny budget than any grudge or overt bias. Same deal with the Daily -- it is run by glorified amateurs learning on the job. If we expect Pulitzer-worthy stuff there that is our mistake.

  7. They're not traditional triple options. something like a motion Jet Sweep with a counter and a bubble screen to the slot would fit well in our current offense. Bussey coming across on the sweep action with Torrey running the counter gives you plenty of time to read the key and if neither of those is open you have a screen to a guy like Darden as well.

  9. This was a game I wish I’d traveled to. I always wondered what the Arkansas faithful thought about the game and “the punt” ?

  10. That's good...and only 4 days after the game. I think it only takes 3 days to travel to the moon, but I may be mistaken. I like seeing the Stars score from last night at the top...

  21. Correct. And how do you know this? Because you’ve seen it before. You’ve seen other teams win with their back ups. Hell, Rice was only down 3 points going into the 4th against us with their 4th or 5th string QB and UTSA nearly beat us with their back up. Im hoping Reeder brings in a system that takes pressure off the QB so Mason doesn’t have to carry his team. But if he does go down the next in line can get the job done. Rick

  22. I'm all for Fine getting the snaps - he has earned it. But its also on the coaches then to come up with a better way to have the backup ready.

  23. Add this to the pile of evidence that the P5 is nothing but a cartel and 50 percent of the teams within it are just riding the coattails of the top half.

  24. I know it's popular in the greater Denton community to bash UNT's growth plan, but the proposed acquisitions are vital to growing and improving campus and this side of the city. The existing commercial and residential uses in these areas suck (professional planner speak). Moving towards Bonnie Brae won't draw half the outrage as losing beloved restaurants, but will involve displacing a lot of low income/student housing. It'll have to be done carefully.

  29. I have gotten my affairs in order and my will written out so I can make the following statement: I would rather have had a Riprock's burger and fried green beans, oriental express, Sabrosita, the taco place across the highway, or the stuff Katz was serving before eating some generic sub with NY paraphernalia plastered on the walls. It was nice knowing y'all.

  30. Once is a mistake. Twice is a coincidence. Three times is enemy action. What do you call 30 years? Rick is right. This crap has been going on for decades. I love the town of Denton, but its local paper leaves a lot to be desired.

  31. 1. No one especially me had a problem with what was written in the body of the article. The teaser headline across the top of the front page was the deal breaker here. 2. No, that’s not what he wrote about the teaser headline. He wrote: “The teaser was written by a designer looking to tie both stories together. It might not have been the best choice, but it was accurate.” Nope...the two are no where on the same planet as being together nor are they accurate. My thought was if that is indeed what that line across the top of the front page of the sports section is called...a “teaser”,...then why in hell would anyone be teased or encouraged to read further? Shouldn’t something positive be there instead? Rick

  32. So I look up what TWU did this weekend at the OC/UCO Invitational. They had 4 games scheduled. TWU played three games and lost all three getting outscored 8-22, and one game was canceled due to weather. But according to Vitto....in his and some other person’s mind ”The teaser...was accurate” because TWU going 0-3 and getting outscored 8-22 is the equivalent to North Texas going 4-1 and outscoring the opposition 40-17 and a win over #20 in the nation.. Again...BIZAARE! Rick

  33. This season is by NO MEANS over, but let’s just look at what we have on the floor next year. We have one glaring weakness, and that’s size. We live and die with our guards, it is what it is. Next season everyone returns except Duffy, Miller and Arikawe. Duffy and Miller are big losses. We bring in a single recruit (so far) in the PG Jalen Jackson (who looks like he will be special and can run alongside or spell Woolridge), Larry Wise was highly touted coming out of high school and hopefully Alcindor and Niko can give us some sort of minutes with some size. With the remaining ships we might find a transfer or JUCO banger as well. I think we have a good shot to continue the current trajectory or move upward.

  40. I know it's said that the DL is the most difficult position group to recruit. And there is probably truth to that. But the way to do it is volume recruit the best guys in that group you can get. Example, UCF signed 7 DL in this class...1/3 of their class was committed to the DL. They had 9 committed and wanted all 9, but had them cherry picked from them last minute and they back filled with a corner and a skill guy. So UCF went into NSD with the intent to sign almost 50% of their class being DL. Meanwhile, we signed 3. And the excuse will be when teams are whipping us up front that our system is made for shootouts, etc. Though there may be some truth to that, but the fact is that the recruiting staff and HC are not making this group a priority when it matters most, NSD.

  41. Yeah...Not sure who wrote that gem. I will say I have quit clicking on the garbage Vito posts on here. The tone and manner in which he writes pisses me off. I've commented it several times in the past to no change. So I just avoid his clippings.
