You have the right to your opinion but I respectfully disagree. They actually have had a pretty representative group of speakers and have raised a lot of money for UNT. Allen Dershowitz voted for Hillary Clinton and is a lifelong democrat. Richard Fischer who was head of the Federal Reserve Bank ran as a democrat against Kay Bailey Hutchison and lost. General Keith Alexander was appointed by Obama to lead USCybercom. General Michael Hayden served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency and National Security Agency in both the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations. General Hayden has been a fierce Trump critic. Admiral James Stadrivis was appointed by Obama to lead NATO forces. I think the point of the series is to look at the accomplishments of the speakers not the politics. It shows the world that UNT is no longer just a "Teachers College" and is a top notch academic institution.6 points

I will say this, IMO, Wren does not seem to be one that will "lower the bar" for the replacement. I truly believe his replacement will be excellent4 points

Well...Seems pretty one sided to me. Only 1 person in the bunch even served in a Republican Presidency. Then a devout Trump critic!! Oh Boy. At least these speakers are raising money for UNT.3 points

It's all good, we should have a pretty good QB's coach sign on as a GA ourselves.3 points

What in the Dillon Swan is going on here!? A major coup FOR UNT??? Ha, No thank you to Applewhite.3 points

He got offered at Syracuse before he committed to us. He was set to come here but didn’t want to sign on early signing day because he was waiting on a bigger fish than Syracuse to come before today, the real NSD. When Seth said no dice, sign today or look elsewhere, that and him somehow learning about Tashard Choice leaving, he withdrew his commitment. From there forward Syracuse was his fallback, he signed with them because the big fish never came. I think he thought Choice would offer him to come to GT, he thought wrong.2 points

He is so screwed, he couldn’t get a job coaching JV at a six man school these days. He needs to accept life after football at this point........unless......no, it couldn’t.....Hugh Freeze succeeds and gets hired away from Liberty?..........Ian McCaw introduces his old pal as the next Liberty head coach? Who knows but I think life after football is what he needs to focus on. Whether he feels wronged or not, the best course of his life is to sit on his leftover Baylor money, watch his son’s career progress on tv, and just stay the hell away from the public eye.2 points

If we don't win the west I will be very disappointed. Not because of how good we are but because of how down the rest are. UTEP, UTSA, UAB, and Rice look to be bad. La Tech and So. Miss are both average teams at best.2 points

No worries. I figured was something like that. And agreed. I would love the same model. I just don't think it could work for MLS yet as the fan base isn't strong or deep enough to support a team losing first division status. Every other league needs it though. Like you said, want to end tanking? Make every game mean something2 points

UNT has had incompetent/complacent people at all of the levels of management regarding athletics for decades. They continued the status quo of filling many of the important positions in the AD with mediocre performers at best. Well, that's no longer the case. I realize that losing Brett is a big loss, but I'm confident that if a qualified replacement is available, we'll get him. Sounds like he's doing this for personal reasons, so I hope the best for Brett.2 points

Hence my response that I'm inclined to believe in the 1000/0 odds. And just to be fair in reference to your comment, a League 2 team has more chance of winning the Premier League than any G5 has of winning the National Championship (I agree with you). Leicester City was in League 2 only a few years before it won the Premier League. I follow Exeter City in League 2 and there is a firm dream they can eventually make the Premier League based on what Leicester City did.2 points

There is no question, they do. I remember Duke being somewhat close. Our josh white and Tristan thompson teams made their living at the line and spoiled me with their FT percentage.2 points

Man, I’ve been feeling the same way so I looked up the percentage the other day and some of the best teams in the NCAA have similar stats at the line. I couldn’t believe it. I need to look at the OOC and conference splits, but it feels like it has been real bad lately. It’s not like conference teams defend the free throw line any better than out of conference teams. It seems from where ever we stand on the floor, the ball is not going down.2 points

"A four-year letterwinner (1992-95) as a defensive lineman and special teams standout at North Texas, Jennings was a member of the Mean Green’s 1994 Southland Conference championship team and the school’s first NCAA FBS squad in 1995. He began his coaching career as a student assistant (1996) and then graduate assistant (1997) at North Texas before moving on to Morehouse."1 point

Sorry guys. I don't condone sicking dogs on raccoons (nice way for your dog to lose an eye or get rabies, idiot), but at the end of the day, I just can't get worked up about this. I can't see how it would be prosecutable in any way, and while it certainly is pretty low-class, low-class has pretty much become the standard based on most college-aged kids twitter pages.1 point

This ignores, of course, that the P5s have some pretty big splits within themselves. The teams that have the most to lose from P5s splitting off are P5 teams who aren't in the special 24 that would leave. There will then be opportunities for consolidation and some departures for the remaining P5s. This will undoubtedly sweep up some G5s, but by then everything will be burning already. The last round of realignment was about inventory, but with less money to spend and with inventory assured, the next round will be about optimization and efficiency. In this, Wren is well ahead of the ball and doing a great job. You can safely assume that Texas, Oklahoma and A&M will be part of the "optimization," so building ties with the have-beens is incredibly important right now. Wren sees this efficiency trend coming, which is why adding Houston and Baylor to our schedule to make us an Texas-centered program is so important. UNT's aim should always be to be in the conference with the most Texas teams. That guarantees exposure, enhances attendance, and provides some viewership buy in which doesn't fully exist now. While we're a ways from the promised land, a certain number of programs leaving the NCAA is to our benefit. If the 24 model is what happens, for example, it leaves the XII in very precarious shape. In that case, it's up to Tech, Houston and us to get everybody wrangled into one SWC. It's a pipe dream now, but every G5's efforts in the state should be driven towards an ultimate goal of a reborn SWC with some combination of Baylor, Houston, Rice, SMU, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, UNT, UTEP, and UTSA, with the possible addition of LATech, NM, NMSU, OSU, Tulsa, and Louisiana.1 point

Think is a piece of the puzzle that not many people may consider. Mason's input and on the line adjustments could be massive for the offense. We already know he is a smart football player. This is what I'm excited to see.1 point

The rankings will settle out wherever they do from here but don't lose sight of the fact that the 2019 class for North Texas is special and will leave a legacy in Denton. As long as it doesn't come at NT's expense in terms of head to head recruiting battles, I welcome other CUSA schools to sign talent at or near the level we did this year as it only means our conference will improve its reputation against our G5 peers - which it needs to do.1 point

Smart is the big issue, he just has to get better for this team to finish strong. Arikawe doesn't play much, J. Simmons has not been an offensive threat all year, and Draper has been exposed with extended minutes. This team needs Duffy back; this despite what some say, is not a deep team. This team has one good front court player in Zack Simmons who seems to be continually in the dog house. After that a little used Arikawe and a 6'4 J. Simmons. The guard position is in better shape but far from deep. Miller, Gibson, Woolridge, Draper, Duffy and Smart at guard is really not that deep either for a team that likes to play 4 guards. NT has very balanced scoring, but is far from deep.1 point
