  1. Since this debate was originally about the talent he’ll face in the SEC and the ability to win the games that matter (CFP)... Count the SEC national titles in the past 15 years vs those from the Big XII. Then look at the top 10 recruiting classes each year in that same span and how many belong to each conference. The look at the number of 1st round draft picks from each conference...and the average draft position of the players. The Cliff’s Notes of what you’ll find: SEC wins and it isn’t by a little

  4. For those interested, the game is at 4pm CT tomorrow on FS1. Featured on the American team are three of our own standouts on defense: E.J. Ejiya, LB Nate Brooks, Corner Kemon Hall, Corner I don't know about y'all, but I'm excited to see three of our players represented. Edit: interesting note, Brent Stockstill, MTSU former QB, is on the opposing team.

  6. Anyone watching the Cowboys-Rams game saw a great example of what I was talking about last year when I advocated that we get a power back to compliment our fast/quick backs. Easly pretty much filled that need, but yet another knee injury (I believe his latest is his third) took him out and deprived us of an important aspect of our offense. The Rams threw C.J. Anderson at the Cowboys as a change of pace from Gurley and MAN was he effective. So what do we do this year? Hope that Easly will rehab for yet a third time? That's one option, but will he be as effective as he was last year? Do we hope that one of our freshmen RB's fill the role of power runner? In pondering this problem I remembered that my old HS (Decatur) found itself in a similar position going into the 1967 season. The star running backs (Lynn and Glynn Hachtel) had been injured the previous year. The running back (Lynn) was able to rehab and come back in his former position, but his twin brother Glynn (the FB) was not able to do the same. So Decatur found itself without a fullback. So former coach Bill Davis (later of L.D. Bell) and his able assistant Neal Wilson, held tryouts and thought they had a solution with their all-state guard Rusty Moore. Rusty was a load, but he wasn't too quick off the line, so that limited his effectiveness. This led to a surprising development. The all-district TE Robert Brown had a go at it...….and they had a winner! Robert had always been as dependable a receiver as Rico Bussy, and like Rico, he was Mr. "yards-after-catch". As a FB, Robert Brown became Decatur's version of (for all you old time Cowboy fans) Don Perkins. Quick off the line, feet constantly moving, and always good for at least 3 yards per carry. BTW, the other twin, Glynn Hachtel, eventually switched to QB and made second team all district at that position. He was also an all district LB. SO, do we have any TE's on our team that have been Mr. "yards-after-catch"? I believe Mr. Kelvin Smith fits that role. I don't know how quick he is off the line. But if he is quick enough, I know that at 6'2" X 250 lbs he would be quite a load for someone to bring down. Plus, at RB, he would always be a target for passes.

  8. Being a Steelers fan, I would love to see him in black and gold. Besides, we need a good ILB with speed since Shazier was lost. Plus, he is bigger than Shazier was. Maybe he can be the next NFL hall of famer to play defense for the Steelers from North Texas kind of like a guy people called Mean Joe. Okay I am getting ahead of myself, but I can dream.

  22. What influence does a small school like SMU really carry? They're not as good as they were a few years ago in basketball and have had only a couple years of winning football plus everyone knows they inflate their attendance numbets.

  24. When the spring roster comes out, we'll see if he is still with us. So far, what I read about him makes him perfect for the role of giving the North Texas offense a power back change-of-pace. And if Mr. Easly fully recovers, and our O-line gets better, then...…….🙂

  27. I’m just saying eventually North Texas is just going to be too big to ignore. We’ve been jerking around for too long, TCU is TCU, whatever. SMU is punching way above it’s weight right now. Remove UConn from the AAC and then move Navy over to the east position and North Texas replaces Navy in the West. That’ll light a fire under SMUs arse and they’ll go back to cheating and get kicked out of FBS entirely 🤠😅 win...win GMG

  29. I think Trevon McWilliams is going to need to put in an extra year or two of classes in the journalism school even after he graduates. He isn’t ready for ESPN or SI just yet. He needs to prove he can be the best writer at the NT Daily BEFORE he goes out and gets a job, regardless of if he graduates first or not. It’ll take awhile to become the Peter King of the NT Daily so I hope you don’t have much desire to get out and start making money until you can prove that you can be an elite journalist. Enjoy your 12 year NT Daily writing career.

  30. UConn is in a really interesting situation. The American does nothing to help their football team, and actually takes away from their ability to sustain a level of basketball success they expect to have. Also, nobody really cares about college football in the northeast. Dropping to FCS makes a lot of sense for them. The CAA is a really good football conference.

  32. I don’t know. Of all the bad decisions they have made over the years drafting LB’s hasn’t been one of them. Not sure anyone could have done better than the evaluation of and getting Smith where they did get him and Vander Esch, who makes the Pro Bowl his rookie season? Rick

  35. I agree that those are some important questions this off season, but my biggest burning question is... When will our offensive and defensive lines be the equal of the better G5 bowl teams?
    1 point
  36. To me, Aune isn’t a key to anything. If he ends up contributing it is a plus not a necessity. And let’s be honest - the chances of that are fairly low. I would bet the staff is more concerned with the QBs on the roster that they recruited rather than a hopefully who hasn’t played in years.
