  3. wait...Texas has one more AP vote and 7 fewer coaches poll votes and we're complaining about perception again? 10-4 with three quality losses, one weird outlier (haven't bothered to dig into potential whys) and wins against a solid Arkansas, an always pesky & white Purdue...and a win against then number 7, now number 12 North Carolina. v. 15-1 with loss to a Top 25 team...and wins against some teams maybe, hopefully figuring it out...UNM win is going to look increasingly good...Hawaii should compete for a Big West title, but that means at best a 15 seed...ISU nearly got doubled-up in their first conference game. but not much else. I think we're both ranked exactly where we should be and hope all this top 25 talk is tabled until after ODU and WKU games. I know it won't be, of course...because...you know...it's GMG.com

  4. Boycott? Nah. Last year was the year to do it, when a truly deserving Central Florida team was left out. These two teams both earned the right to be here, as far as I'm concerned. That said, I'm not tremendously excited to watch it. It's like a mediocre book I've already read a few times.

  5. I love how so many on here bad mouth P5 college football and even more specifically top end P5 college football. What if SMU hadn't been a little bitch all those years ago and ole Mr. Fry got us into the SWC...Then on the split, the new Big 12 decided they wanted UNT instead of Texas Tech....Now we are in the P5 and who knows, maybe even the upper tier with Texas and such....do we all spit the same garbage about semi-pro and elitism that gets spit now? Doubt it. So just because I'm a fan of UNT doesn't mean i cant enjoy all of college football....because call it what you want....i thoroughly enjoy it, and will continue to do

  6. In response to #3, my freshman year (1987-1988) we hosted the Sunbelt Conference Tournament and played in the championship game (live on ESPN). The Super Pit was very close to full that night and it was extremely loud! We won the conference championship and went on to play North Carolina in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

  7. I understand this angle. But we can't concede unless 35-40 of the poorer "P5" concede with us. We can't openly relegate ourselves without them coming to play. Let the 30 or so left play semi pro ball. Then, and only then, I'm on board.

  8. So is Alabama and Clemson, (both of which played a much tougher schedule). Am i excited to watch...YES I don't understand why you wouldn't want to watch two very good if not great football teams square off. I sure do, why? because i like watching good college football As far as the lack of ticket sales, i would firmly put this on the location not the matchup. Two teams from across the country with 1 week to make plans to a very expensive destination and 1 that has proven time and time again that it does not support college football (see Pac 12 championship games, standard and cal attendance figures, etc...)

  9. This is not how I am projecting the depth chart to look. Just an illustration on how far we have come since Seth Littrell took over. The depth chart finally looks like a legit division 1 FBS offer. Now I know many things can change by the time Sept rolls around such as declaring for draft, transfers, adding late qualifiers. But as of today this is how it looks heading into spring. 11. Top 25? I can take it or leave it. Baby steps. Last year we won the CBI tournament .We need to play in the NCAA tournament this year and win at least one game. That will go a long way to getting more respect and solid recruits coming to Denton. Lastly, make sure we hang on to Coach McCasland.

  12. A lot of QB's are "products of their receivers" (let's not forget who our own Kason Martin threw to in HS), but Lawrence is the real deal. Yes, he had great protection last night, but several of the most critical throws were made as he was about to be hit. And he is a FRESHMAN

  15. You're watching semi-pro football dressed up in the uniforms of a couple of universities. Other than our games and parts of a few games of teams we play in conference, I haven't watched any other NCAA or NFL football for over 2 years. Haven't missed it a bit.

  18. Did he really turn it around though? He had one good season with us (nearly every major contributor from that good team was recruited by the prior regime) and before you know it he’s losing by 59 to an FCS school on homecoming. As for Iowa State, was he really good for them either? He had an overall record of 56-85. That’s terrible. He was 21 games under .500 after 3 years at Iowa State and was a little under .500 for the last 9 years.

  22. How is that the conclusion you came to? That kid is making throws NFL quarterbacks couldn't dream of making already. Quarterback is the most important position in football, it's even more important for non AQ (I am going back to this term screw calling them "power 5") schools, hence the reason we have gone to three straight bowls. I remember posting here a long time ago wondering if we would ever have a Kolton Browning, Keith Wenning etc play here after years of abysmal qb play. We finally got our guy, there is no way we win as many games as we did in 2017 with another QB taking snaps. There is also no way Alabama gets ragdolled by any team unless there is a truly great QB on the opposite side of the ball.

  23. thats a good looking depth chart. It will be fun to watch the backup qbs battle it out. Doesnt surprise me they have Aune a couple of notches ahead of Bean. Should be an interesting spring.

  27. I thought the Clemson receivers were absolutely outstanding last night. Having said that--Lawrence put the ball where he needed to in order to give those receivers a chance to catch it. That's what a good QB should be able to do when afforded protection/time.

  28. Top 25 in hoops is very hard to crack. Especially with a rebuilding program, no historical “perception” advantages and an admittedly weak OOC schedule. Really hope our fans will just enjoy the ride. Agree on tabling that talk. It’s probably gonna take 6 more wins without tripping up to get that done anyway.

  31. This was the team that inspired the 66 defence to play in such a dominating way that they inspired the MEAN GREEN nicname. That first game against Texas Western (UTEP) where they lost 61-15 set the tone for the season. I saw NT on "Band Day" (Homecoming) so we were always surrounded by other HS Bands in the stands. Watching John Love was the only thing that distracted me from checking out the "talent" in those bands. John Love was a combination of Jaylen Darden and Rico Bussy. Every time he fielded a punt the fans came to their feet in anticipation of what he might do with the ball. He was drafted by Washington, and the first time he got his hands on the ball (in pre-season), he took a KO all the way back. I think the emphasis changed from 100 yrd time, to 40 yrd time, when coaches realized that most offensive plays fell into the 0-40 yrd. range.

  32. Yes....Greenbat and I would like to thank Spencer’s Gifts for supplying those great posters. Best memory of those was against UTA. The UTA coach called timeout and motioned an official over and demanded we be removed from the stands. The official then walks across the court towards us and demands that an NT policeman standing in front of us remove us from the stands, to which the cop points back to the middle of the court and yells back at the official..”Don’t worry about these guys, your problem is on the court!”. Hilarious! Rick

  33. I tell you what, these guys have all day to throw. Rarely do these QBs have to rush and feel pressure. Mason would destroy it either one of these defenses with this type of talent around him...

  34. Personally, I've always liked the Super Pit. The venue (while outdated) still is impressive when compared to most schools. I have so many memories here (like I'm sure others do in the Snake Pit). Out of the many memories, some of the funniest come to mind. Anyone else remember the late 80's games with the Poster Guys (distracting opposing free throw shooters behind the basket) and Sidney Bradford barking behind the visitor's bench?

  35. Maybe you’re wanting a Booger. That’s unreasonable. Bryce did this season exactly what we needed him to.

  36. Winning the conference tournament and getting an automatic bid to the tournament is what I hope for this season. Top 25 votes are cool but I don’t believe CUSA is a two bid conference so it really doesn’t matter.

  38. He had one winning season in 5 years. Don't mistake my post for defending McCarney. He ran the ball and played defense, what did that lead to? The single most embarrassing loss in FBS history. McCarney ran the ball and played defense all the way to a 22-32 record.
    2 points
  39. I'm actually with you on your overall point, but we really shouldn't be walking down this path. McCarney won that ball game with the same system that failed to get him there every other year he was here. The same system that he failed to coach properly. Failed to recruit to properly. Failed to, honestly, care about. There are a million reasons you are right. Let's use a better one.

  41. I am wondering when some of the previous GoMeanGreen.com members that used to attend every home game will come back. If there ever was a great time to attend Mean Green home basketball games, this is it, and the home crowd seems to make a positive difference for the team and their performance. We have seen on Twitter/Facebook, etc. that the players definitely pay attention to the crowd size and crowd support. Rose even gave a Twitter shout out to last night's (Southern Miss game) crowd for their support. Also wondering when the students might embrace this team and start coming to the games in much higher numbers. Crowd size is growing, and the attendance for the last few games has been outstanding. Here's hoping that continues and grows.

  43. All I am saying is....should we win these next two on the road, I'll be disappointed if we don't average 5K for Rice and UAB. At that point we'd be 17-1 and probably knocking on the door of the Top 25. If that doesn't start to fill up the Super Pit, nothing will.

  48. 1) Too large based on crowds as of today but I’d like to see what a few years of this athletic administration handling the marketing and on court success will do. 2) The lighting is already there to brighten things up if the choice is made to do so. There are a lot of lights that are simply turned off. 3) I will admit I haven’t been in a TON of other college basketball arenas, but I actually find the Super Pit to be quite loud. Can only imagine what it sounds like full.
