  1. Wren also went on to say this does not include the Cross Country CUSA Championship. Also worth noting that both basketball coaches took over for coaches who failed to even make the CUSA Tourney in their last year and football infamously was coming off a 1-11 season and last place in the division.

  8. Here is the write-up for NTSU in the 1965 issue of Texas Football magazine. We followed 5 pages about the Houston Cougars and a sophomore flanker named, Warren McVea and we were right after Abilene Christian and right before Austin College. We've come a long way since those days and I'm thinking that the 2019 issue of DCTF should have Mason on the cover. I know, the results of the Sugar Bowl probably negated that possibility, but I'll be writing to them anyway.

  9. I do as well, but not as "eloquently" as you posted. He has worked his tail off to get ready and play only to be delayed/injured again. I wish him nothing but the best and hope that he lights the world on fire next year.

  11. Because of all the arguments that can be made for a new arena, having to move location for a game against a division 3 school once every 5 years isn’t really one of them. That is just my opinion.

  14. I'm actually with you on your overall point, but we really shouldn't be walking down this path. McCarney won that ball game with the same system that failed to get him there every other year he was here. The same system that he failed to coach properly. Failed to recruit to properly. Failed to, honestly, care about. There are a million reasons you are right. Let's use a better one.

  19. The P5 giants of the world have all of the power--they own the media, legislatures, conferences, sponsors, and fans. The foolish part of calling all of us FBS perpetuates an image of equality. Its not even close to being true. Those of us in the G5s don't have anywhere near those resources. North Texas, whom we all love, has only had one crowd over 30k ever attend a game in Denton. Texas and A&M get 90k or more almost every game they play. IOW, its never going to be level or equal because it can't be. Same for UH, SMU, UTSA, Rice, Texas State, and everyone else in this state. What needs to happen is that those Power Giants need to just fully separate. Right now, even within the P5s, there is significant differences in revenue between programs. In 2016-2017, in the Big 12, Texas had $215m in revenue (first in the country). OU had $155m (7th in the country). WVU had $110m (27th in the country). KU had $95m (36th in the country). OSU had $91m (40th in the country). Tech had 89m (43rd in the country). K-State had 86m (45th in the country) . Iowa State had $82.6 million (50th in the country). That's astronomically different from the top to the bottom. Now compare ISU's revenue to the highest revenue producer in the G5s, the AFA, which was 55th in public institutions and produced $59.6m in revenue. UH was next at $57.1m, followed by UCF at $56.3m, SDSU at $52.4m, and USF at $50m. The top revenue producing team in CUSA was Old Dominion--at $46.2m. Charlotte, FAU, MTSU, and FIU follow until you get to us at #94, where we produced $32m. BTW, the 124th thru 126th rated schools for revenues in that time frame were all from the CUSA West, UAB at $24.8m, LT at $24.7m, and USM at $24m. Its ok to recognize that the term FBS is not built on equality--in any way or form. The top G5 program producing under $60m, while the lowest P5 (Washington State) had over $64m doesn't seem to broad, but it doesn't take long for that budget difference and fanbase difference to make you see that the P5s have cultivated followings for decades. I still believe it is PATENTLY UNFAIR to the players at our level of play to be the only ones in any level that don't get to compete for a national championship, all because the ADs and Presidents at G5 institutions depend on the big money from these OOC bodybag games, which are also PATENTLY UNFAIR. Money and media have created this huge division--and its not going to change ever on this. And if you don't think a playoff for the G5s that would have involved UCF, Fresno State, Army, Boise State, Utah State, Cincy, App State, and UAB playing each other in December wouldn't have created more attention that the spare bowls we in the G5 all played in (except for UCF), I don't know what to say. It would add in some also excitement for our level of play at this time of the year, all while the P5s are sitting down and not playing.

  20. When are we (all) wake up and realize we are dealing with a Cartel that will do all in its power to keep others down! As they are having trouble selling tkts I would also think viewership will be down! Again!

  22. Though I totally believe there have been times they've butted heads, those times seem to be few & far between. I mean, we were able to schedule an entire postseason tournament there last Spring without issue. I can see why we'd need a new basketball arena prior to starting baseball from scratch, but that new arena should be near the bottom of the list of things to be completed on the old golf course. Now that we have the new Track/Soccer stadium, and the IPF is going up, Athletics Center expansion (with an expanded weightroom) has to be at the top of the list. The tennis ladies deserve their center court. The Volleyball Gym can be made nicer or torn down & rebuilt altogether. Lovelace Stadium could use some improvements. Lockerrooms can be upgraded probably 4 or 5 times. Do whatever they're going to do with the Apogee Scoreboards....

  23. The original seat and trim color was orange. More of a Okie State orange. I spoke with the architect when we were trying to get the seats replaced, and he told me the choices were the orange or a beige. Both colors for television. And remember that was 1970-72 or so. There was a time when some of the seats were orange, some were green, and some were gone. GO MEAN GREEN

  30. They have a great fan base, but scheduling them (and possibly losing) does not do much for us. Beating them doesn’t do much either. I guess I just don’t see the positive. Sorry, man

  31. McVea was pretty much a high school legend. One of my high school students from McKinney played against him in the HS All Star game at Amon Carter. He had borrowed the family station wagon. He had signed with Texas. He told me McVea pulled up in a new convertible. He said he and his friends decided they might have signed with the wrong school.

  33. John Love, 5-11, 185#, with 9.9 speed. John was either really slow in the 40, or really, really fast in the 100 yard dash. Love was a great player for NT. Fun to watch.

Great team and a good atmosphere that will only get better. I believe by the end of the year attendance will be 5-6 K and the crowd rocking. The students will be there. GO MEAN GREEN BEAT THE minors!!!

  38. I still for the life of me can not figure out what is up with Ryan's shot. I've seen him coldly knock down rhythm jumpers/three's and I've seen him airball free throws. I agree that he's definitely still a bit banged up if not just a bit gassed from cumulative minutes. I've been pleased with Gibson's quick development on the ball/decision-making of late...I think his place as sixth-man as both points and a trusted one in place of Ryan is going to pay major dividends as the conference season slogs on.

  40. I thought we looked very flat last night. If we can that badly and win that is a good thing. I think Ryan is still hurt from the LATECH game. We missed some 3-pointers so badly that i thought I was shooting them. It is always tough to win on the road and hope we got that bad game out of our system. I was suprised to see Simmons on the bench so much last night but listening to interview with Coach Mac he said Simmons hurt his foot and was not moving his feet very well, hope it is nothing serious or prolonged. We are still making some lazy passes and it is costing us. I thought the crowd was flat last night as well but did get loud when the team really needed it. Thanks to the assistant coach (dont know his name) who went out on the court to get the fans going. Very proud of this team and I love going to the games. GMG.
