Agree, good question. The Wing T. That’s awesome! As for why he’s still there...Maybe the P5’s are simply morons? Maybe he enjoys coaching without the pressure a P5 would place him in? Maybe he likes it there. Maybe he’s loyal? Maybe he feels like he needs to honor his contract? Either way he’s damn good and Mizzouri had better be ready. Rick7 points

UH is like a quarter step up from UNT. Just because UCF is making the AAC look really good. There is no such thing as the P6. If SL turned down KState, hes not going to UH. Bunch of dumb asses even thinking that's a possibility... lol.5 points

You have to remember, College level logic goes right over @CK2‘s head. That’s why he ended up at UH after he flunked out of North Texas. It’s quite sad really. He’s like a guy who gets dumped by a hot woman...and then calls her incessantly to let her know he’s not thinking about her because his new fat girlfriend is better.3 points

There is also rumblings that Applewhite is about to be fired. Is there any precedent for that kind of situation?3 points

I hold Patrick Cobbs in very high regard. I have yet to post this story, so now seems like a good time. This season near the end of the Incarnate Word game, and with a 2 and half hours drive in front of us, my wife and I headed out. While putting our seats in the trunk of the car, I realized the canvas back of my seat had fallen off somewhere along the way. These North Texas stadium chairs are no longer available, so I was intent on finding the backing. After tracing my step and not finding the item, I found myself at the entrance to Apogee. The ladies at the gate were very understanding of my situation, but couldn't let me back in the stadium with my ticket that had already been scanned. Out of nowhere, Patrick and his wife stepped up and handed me one of their club level tickets. What wonderful people that truly love and support our athletics. They are great representatives of our university and Patrick certainly has the credentials to coach our running backs. I would be beyond enthusiastic if Littrell were to hire Cobbs.3 points

DRC: Landing a matchup with Utah State wasn't the best of outcomes for UNT. UAB, Louisiana Tech come out as big winners in West Division https://www.dentonrc.com/sports/conference-usa-bowl-review/article_221b5db2-2b35-53c5-90d9-547b05f941e0.html2 points

Thank you Rick. I don't understand the number of downvotes you received. Basic execution prevents a 52-13 beat down to all but the very best teams on the FBS level. Shanbor not ready? Then why was he the go to option? Cade Pearson ready after his second year in the program? No, then why not? And I get that most teams lose when they lose their all conference QB against a really good team. But all those teams don't get blown out either. Fine doesn't run the defense or special teams.2 points

Hmm, if I’m the Pac12 & could take 2 TX teams... do I want UT & Houston? Or UT & TXTech? That’s actually a decent question because I think there’s more upside w/Houston, but more stability with Tech. I think there’s a better chance Houston winds up in a conference with US than in the PAC12.2 points

Students don’t seem to really care to come to games it seems. Appears to be a trend across many areas these days. Maybe UT is trying to “create” demand for its tickets through fewer seats?2 points

That def isn’t the Wing T...more like Double-tight flexbone. But hey sb nation see a weird formation it’s always wing t2 points

Agreed. He's the best coach we've had in years. He'd be an even better coach if he could ever win anything that mattered.2 points

Agree Rick. I was in NM. I would put UNT attendance at 2,000. Utah State at 1700. We definitely had more there than them but if I'm being truthful the advantage was probably due to size of the bands. Utah State had some UNM people on their side that helped them fill it in a bit. The game was miserable due to our play. But myself, my son and his two friends had a blast. The people were very friendly and the food was good. It got pretty damn cold when the sun started going down. The total attendance was probably around 6-7k but could pass for more in a 40,000 seat stadium. Honestly not sure what people expect. Both USU and UNT had games this year with scans not much off that on their home campus. (And before you come at me, I guarantee Southern Miss was in that neighborhood). Never got fans like some on this thread crapping on bowl games. What the hell difference is it to you? If the bowl loses money, it's not your damn money. Schools and conferences obviously see a benefit or they wouldn't play them. ESPN obviously has an audience for them because they are constantly looking to add more. The players get to go somewhere new and actually see more than an airport and hotel. They can get a nice bowl gift around Christmas and winners probably get a ring they can show their kids. This is pretty simple. If you don't like the matchup, opponent, location, date, etc. Don't frieking go! But no one cares to hear you come on the board and shit on the bowl game. Takes a pretty sad sack of a person to come on here and dog out people who do go and do enjoy such games.2 points

I was the one that mentioned 8,000 and it is based on the size of the school and our potential as a program, nothing more. As stated, we can't build at 6,000 and then increase as needed like football. An open air stadium is easy to expand compared to a enclosed basketball arena. Don't build on where we are, build for what you expect.2 points

I know the NCAA calculates their own NET system now, but I still like to check the RPI since I know how it works. I also don't suspect the final numbers will be THAT much different. RealtimeRPI has us at #47 in the country after last night. They project us to lose only four games the rest of the scheduled season, but only two of those are actually penciled in as losses (they sometimes say you're gonna lose a game you're supposed to win when tabulating your final record). Obviously no one knows who our final opponents will be because of the change in CUSA scheduling. http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_405_Men.html1 point

I need more downvotes....SL was out the door and he didn’t stay because of any buyout. It came down to a staff issue. He has a heck of an agent and I congratulate him because his agent truly sees that SL is going places. At the end of the day SL is going to stay or leave based on his decision. If you disagree with me on that then you’re truly drinking that green koolaid from the tap. The only way I want SL to leave is with a 10 win season coming off a conference championship with a bowl game victory while he’s getting a new job because his recruiting classes are so good even a grad assistant could couch the team! I don’t think it’s ego, though I do think we should make a point of having (even just marginally) a bigger arena than TCU/SMU/UTA. So I guess that part is ego. I don’t think we’ve seen what basketball can be with a competent coach plus competent leadership plus full administrative support. Not all at the same time Maybe I’m overly optimistic, I just think that results in more than 6,000 seats needed. It’s not like a football stadium where you can adjust to future needs. The good news is the next few years should substantiate one way or the other what the capacity should be.1 point

I got to go to the game last night. At least I got to see 1 Mean Green win in NM! What a great basketball atmosphere. I'd love to see our Super Pit as full/engaged as theirs. Great community involvement & great fans. Trading runs back & forth throughout the game was nerve-wracking. And it seemed like every time UNM would go on a run, they'd start applying backcourt pressure & traps. When they did, the place erupted. With a loud atmosphere & that much defensive aggression, a lesser team would definitely have turned the ball over more or caved completely... but oddly enough, it was the same trap over & over, beaten by us the same way over & over. Woolridge & Miller, or Woolridge & Duffy handled it beautifully pretty much every time. Pace was fully-dictated by the Mean Green, we had 4 or 5 shot clock violations slowing the game down. Seemed like any time we needed a big bucket to stop their runs, it was Miller Time. And despite being much taller than our guys overall, our zone was impenetrable, and if they happened to get in, help was always there to disrupt the shot. Fantastic defensive effort by the Mean Green! Looking forward to conference play! I think with this win it's fair to ask: Can we win 30 games this year?1 point
