  1. I’m Brett Vito, I like to write articles making it seem like the school’s all conference QB considered leaving when he actually didn’t at all. And when the shit blows up I’ll write another article acting like I was totally innocent and blame the whole thing on the fans.

  3. I think its both, but you can hide a personnel issue by calling the right play. If your left tackle struggles to block the man directly in front of him you don't ask him to try to stunt down the line on a slow developing play where he will undoubtedly get beat. You block straight ahead and and run a dive play behind you best lineman and possibly a tight end...or how about a QB sneak for a yard. It just seems like we overthink the most basic situations on offense.

  6. Obviously perspective is different for every fan. For some of you, apparently nothing means anything unless NT is in the national championship picture and even than would find something to moan about. To expect that kind of results on any G5's budget is definitely lacking perspective. NT overall coaching staff is outstanding. Littrell is the best coach since Hayden Fry was on the sidelines. IMO, McCasland is also better than any coach NT has had in MBB in again about 50 years. Mitchell doesn't have the numbers yet, but she is the best WBB coach NT has ever had with the exception of Aston's one year. The other sports for the most part are also very well coached. There is no sane person that can argue that Baker is not the best AD ever at NT. NT is competitive in every secondary sport and has plus CUSA level programs in volleyball, tennis, men's cross country, men's golf and soccer. The sports that have been behind include for the most part track and field, softball, and swimming. Track and field has been without a suitable venue and that is currently being solved. Softball has a brand new coach with an outstanding record. I don't think swimming is going to be competitive until a better facility is available. Most of the above, is not perception it is fact. Teams can always be better, but it is a great time to be a NT fan.

  7. I was watching some of Torrey’s sick moves in last nights game on the highlight video and thought to look back at his rushing stats for the year. And one thing that stands out to me besides that he gained 977 yards on 161 attempts, averaging 5.9 yards a carry, but he basically did it only carrying the ball half the season. For instance, he only got one touch in the La Tech game. And he’ll only be a junior next season. I just don’t think people realize how damn good he is? Regardless we are set at RB for a while. Rick

  9. Say what you will about Barstool (for the most part, bunch of a**holes), but they have a wide-reaching platform. And our next great QB was just recognized by them for his.. moves? As much as we're disappointed about how conference play ended, all this publicity from national outlets will continue to push this program forward. Future is so bright around here..

  12. My kid got (another) chance to meet MF...that's 2 weeks in a row. It's kinda funny to think one day I'll be an old man and he'll be telling me about those 2 times he met MF after the FAU and UTSA wins (both very close and down to the wire). I'm happy he gets a chance to experience football this way. GMG

  13. Recruits care, and when recruits care and it does matter.....you get better prospects going to your school which makes your team better. Man some of yall really are some sour puss fans and everything is bad. WE WON 9 GAMES, WE DID IT 2 SEASONS IN A ROW. Sure expectations can be high and I am all for it, but holy cow we are 3 years removed from some of the worst football in the country. ENJOY THIS WHILE IT LASTS!!!

  14. has nothing to do with that. We threw 2 slot fades for TD's vs UAB and another on an out I believe and Darden couldn't be covered and we just couldn't seem to call those plays anymore rest of the game. I am to lazy to do it, but I could find similar issues the other 2 losses.

  15. Some of you seem to believe that NT can pick their conference. CUSA is a big improvement over the Belt despite what ratings state about one sport in one year. Despite some views, NT is not too good for CUSA. I don't remember NT dominating anything in this league other than woman's soccer. My main objective to CUSA is it is too widespread and the MWC would be much worse. The only real step up is to a P5 and that will take a major shakeup for there to even be a chance. Look at UH and Central Fla; two much more successful programs that can't make that happen. NT after many years of doing as little as possible to stay afloat in D1, is actually substantially increasing their investment in the program. That and making good hiring decisions is about all a program can do to elevate their status.

  18. I don’t really understand how you can’t be impressed with that stat yes we coughed up those double digit leads but we were good enough to get them......in all 12 games. That’s what makes the losses all the more frustrating. WE WERE GOOD ENOUGH TO NEVER TRAIL BY MORE THAN ONE POSSESSION IN EVERY SINGLE GAME. In other words we were NEVER out of any game one time this year. I know I’ve never seen that in my time following UNT. The only other team to do that this season is arguably the greatest team in college football history.

  27. So basically Vito poured gas on the ground, then lit it and then wondered why everyone was upset that the building caught on fire. You take a quote that on a scale of 1-10 in controversy is a 2. You then twist it to make it a 9. Then....you throw out hypotheticals as to why one in Mason Fine's situation would consider transferring (even though he didn't...but now it doesn't matter.) Now the flame is lit....now you get social media and internet "debate" One side says "you must be naive to think that Mason Fine wouldn't consider transferring to a better situation for Mason Fine" the other side says "No! how could he consider leaving us!" Both of those arguments are rooted in nothing more than a hypothetical brought up by a "journalist" that twisted an innocuous answer to a question about an internet rumor. The whole foundation for this entire "controversy" was based on nothing. Mason Fine had the thought cross his mind because he was asked about it. Brett Vito turned that into Fine "considered it" (in the DRC) and "Pondered it" (his headline on GMG.com) We can get into why it would be a big deal for the greatest player and biggest fan favorite to come through UNT since Mean Joe Greene to consider leaving before his eligibility is up all day......but let's make sure that's a real thing. In this case it wasn't.

  28. Rose had some rust early in the game but started getting in the flow of the game at the end. Rose's first couple of 3's were not even close. DJ has not hit his stride yet. He tends to be a streak 3 point shooting guy. He can kill you with threes or he looks way off on this 3 point shot. Gibson has a quick shot he gets the ball and if he is open he shoots in a fluid manner. His 3's are nothing but net. He does try to much at times but he will continue to grow. Simmons is so much improved this year, his shooting, defense, rebounding and not getting into foul trouble early in the game. Ryan is Ryan, a great team player and he leads the offense. Miller seems to bring energy to the floor when he is on the floor. He always seems to step up when we need him the most. The new Simmons makes some size and physical strength to the floor. I was watching him last game and no one was pushing him around. Duffy, love this guy. He is always giving 100% on both sides of the court and he can shoot the lights out. Mark the player from Russia is still learning the flow of the game. He seems to be little hesitant at times. The other guys I have not watched closely enough. I am no expert but this is what I have seen so far and it is all personal opinion but I did stay at a Holiday Express last night.

  29. If Littrell were to leave for a P5 now, it makes sense to me that it would be to school that’s not “a football school.” I think that Seth or a guy like Neal Brown aren’t going to get a shot at a big time P5 program that’s football-first with their resumes as-is. Both have had success in places where success has been difficult to come by, but when “I brought winning back to Denton/Troy” is your closing argument, that’s not going to be enough at Tech or another P5 where football defines the entire athletic program. At a place like Indiana or Kansas or NC, though, it might be enough. To get a shot at a P5 football-first school, Seth and Neal need to go the PJ Fleck route: crush your recruiting every year, win more games than you did the year before, play for conference championships and win them, and win/be competitive in your P5 games and bowl games. I think Neal is further along that progression than Seth, but I don’t think either of them are on the radar of a P5 football-first school right now. EDIT: while I was writing this drivel, it looks like UNC is going #BackToMack!

  30. The fact that we struggle constantly with short yardage runs to me is more of a personnel issue than play calling. You can call all the inside runs you want but if the big boys up front can't get guys moved its irrelevant.

  36. It was Murray’s man. But in his defense how in hell do you ask him to curl up and launch his 6’9” frame from a pass-defense stance across to his right to stop a 2 technique who is in a 4 point stance and already has the position advantage before the ball is even snapped? I mean....it’s a head scratcher trying to figure out the expectation there? Rick

  37. Decided to take in the Kansas/Texas game. Couple of observations: 1. Game day atmosphere is infinitely better at Apogee. 2. Apogee is much nicer facility than Memorial. 3. Fan support is greater at UNT. 4. Seats were $17 each. Let that sink in. Lawrence is a beautiful town with beautiful campus, and really cool shops/bar area. Great college town to visit. Of course, UNT repped by my alumna wife.

  40. Stop it Brett. You wrote an article. That's your job. Don't make excuses, point fingers or blame others. Again, weighing the pros and cons is far more intense than "it crossed my mind". We all know the pros but what about the cons? Well, 1) a further distance might make it more difficult and more expensive for family and friends to make home games. 2) What if for some reason a nagging injury affects his play forcing him sit on the bench his senior year. 3) What if the receivers at the new school aren't nearly as good as the receivers he has at UNT and his stats aren't nearly as good as people expected. What if some hotshot freshman or another transfer comes in and he finds himself riding the bench the entire year? I'm sure there are many more cons but if I had to guess none of them or the ones listed played any part in his decision to stay at UNT. No one knows more than Mason Fine what it feels like to be told you aren't big enough. You're not tall enough. You're not strong enough. You're not good enough. I believe Fines decision was based on the future, not one in football but one in the business world, or running for Chief of the Cherokee Nation. Or maybe public office. I think it all boiled down to integrity; for how could Mason tell the Mean Green Family you're not big enough, you're not tall enough, you're not strong enough, you're not good enough? That's why we love Mason Fine!!!

  43. Ummm, no. Here are two links from Pete Fiutak with College Football News showing him as the #4 rated candidate for the North Carolina job and #2 for the Texas Tech job. https://collegefootballnews.com/2018/11/kliff-kingsbury-fired-5-top-candidates-for-texas-tech-job https://collegefootballnews.com/2018/11/larry-fedora-fired-5-top-candidates-for-north-carolina-job .. and the only reason he is rated #4 for UNC is because "Littrell is probably more likely to take the Texas Tech job". So, it's not just Vito. Unbiased national writers know what's up too ...

  46. I don't know the answer to conference affiliation. I like the idea of MWC affiliation but we've tried the western Avenue approach before, Big West, and it didn't work out. Plus I was able to attend 2 away games this year and doubt I could go west to see MWC away games. Not a easy solution.

  47. Going into the season, LBs looked to be NT's weakest position and turned out to be a strength. NT has 3 ol starters returning Woodward and the Mose brothers. Looking at the offensive numbers the ol was not as bad as it keeps being portrayed. Odds are that the ol should be at least as good as this year. The offense looks loaded with 9 starters returning and should be even better in Fine's senior year. The defense loses a lot, so some younger players are going to have to surface. Another potential problem is NT must find a kicker, Hedlund will be hard to replace.
