  1. I've never seen a bigger group of complainers than this board. GREAT attendance for SMU and La Tech. Decent attendance for freaking Incarnate Word and due to the rainiest weekend in a long time, really poor attendance for this game. Do you not realize that if we have clear weather for homecoming, we should be close to a sellout? We have broken the attendance record twice within 1 freaking season... Rome wasn't built in a day. Give me a break...

  2. - We are bowl eligible for a third consecutive year, which has only occurred once before. The other time? Dickey’s run of 4 straight. - Nate Brooks is tied for the national lead among FBS players in interceptions (4) - Rico Bussey is tied for third nationally in receiving TD’s (8) - E.J. Ejiya had 6.5 sacks, which puts his at #13 nationally. The guy at #1 has 8.5 - Cole Hedlund is #5 nationally in field goals made with 13 - We are #6 nationally in passing yards with 2,283 and #9 in total offensive yards with 3,355 (also #9 in total points with 279) - We are giving up an average of 17.6 points a game (We gave up 35 points a game last season). So that’s roughly HALF of last season’s average...granted, last year included the two FAU debacles - Yesterday our defense forced 2 turnovers, and had 4 sacks (while giving up ZERO second half points). This is a special time in Mean Green land. Regardless of how things go at UAB (I think we win), you are robbing yourself of some rare memories if you aren’t in the house for Homecoming and the rest of this season

  4. The Mean Green defense came through in a BIG way today. Dragging the offense along for the first half of the game as they spun their wheels. Forcing TOs, getting key 3rd down & 4th down stops, & keeping energy up all game. If the offense can match the defense’s intensity next week, we win going away. Great game D!!

  12. Very true. The attendance talk is kind of a beating after a huge “get back on track” win like yesterday. A couple of conversations on the board this week about years past bad weather games got me thinking about some of the really bad football I’ve witnessed (Ohio & WKU) in the past 20 years. Where we literally were just looking for a couple of wins in a season. Now look at where we are from a competitive standpoint thanks to Seth. I’m honestly glad that we’re in a position as a program to have a newer generation of fans now, who the La Tech letdown is the worst North Texas experience that they’ve endured. Gut wrenching as it was, that was an exciting game against a quality opponent. It’s exciting that North Texas is actually attracting Johnny Come Lately’s to the program. Unrealistic undefeated season expectations and all. This has been a long time coming. Enjoying the ride this year. These are fun times in Mean Green land. Feel like we’re still watching a special season unfold before our eyes.

  16. I can tell you that making derogatory remarks about other members of the fan base is not a positive way to attract others or increase interest. Many of our fans can't just change their plans last minute because the weather clears an hour before kickoff. Many have smaller children and it takes planning and organization. I realize that many may not like what I'm saying. But, it's simply true. If it wasn't for today's weather, these same families would have other commitments like youth sports. As many mentioned before the game, selling out a day game will take time. The bottom line is we have to win (and win consistently for several seasons) to change the priorities of many fans (especially with kids and other obligations). I too would LOVE to see us sellout all our games! For what it's worth, I see it happening in the not so distant future.

  20. Can we send the CUSA refs back to PEE WEE football and pick up some good middle school officials. Some terrible calls and when we learn about the unsportsmanlike celebrations. I saw the one on the sack and it was a bad call, not near the sacked qb and they did high five in a different way. Gave SM a first down instead of a sack for a big loss. Go to the sidelines and do the celebrating. The run for a loss on SM and no whistles were blown and the running back kept trying to run near the goal line. So if he would have broken loose and ran for 20 yards the play would not be called back. The running back was trying to keep the play going and no whistle was blown until we tackle him.

  24. For the record, I'm no monocle. At some point and for various reasons that I won't get into here, I decided that I wanted to have one luxury in my otherwise spartan life and pulled the trigger on the cheapest club seats available for what was at the time, a kinda uncomfortable amount of money. And I did sit through that monsoon against Ohio over at fouts, so I got that goin' for me.

  25. I was at the game, but a few points: - just because it isn’t raining at the stadium, doesn’t mean it wasn’t raining in the metroplex. - people on this board aren’t the norm, not everyone lives and dies by their smart phone and checks a weather app every 10 minutes. All the news on the weather was that it would rain all day, and people believed it. I was at the game, but I believed it. - you people have lived in Texas longer than you seem to remember. Not all storms come neatly across from West Texas so we can easily watch them on their way. Just because a line of storms came across and there appeared to be a clearing, doesn’t mean many more wouldn’t pop up right behind them, and the weather people on the news were raving about the unprecedented rain day we were going to have. How many of you brought rain coats even though it was “clear” behind the line of storms? - we are on track for a record season attendance, relax. Bring a friend to the next game that hasn’t been to a game and it will all be all right. If we have great weather, good team and we have less than 20k show up like most G5’s, then complain and worry.

  28. You are a monocle, ineligible to be a super fan. You didn't offend me. I don't easily get offended. I have season tickets even though I have not lived in TX for nearly a decade, so yes Rick was correct that I can rarely attend. Just trying to stick up for the little guy here a bit. Seemed unnecessary to have multiple threads trying to shame students and fans for not coming out. I hate that people stay home at the slightest inconvenience as well, but not sure why Emmitt and others feel the need to flaunt their assumed superiority. Yes, this team deserves more support, but the folks on this forum are not the ones slacking. Just one potentially unpopular opinion.

  29. NT won the game before a pitifully small crowd. The first part of that sentence is much more important than the last. I have never understood this preoccupation with attendance particularly right after the game. Do some think they are going to shame other fans into attending? Hint, not many potential attendees will read these comments and less will care about anybody's opinion of how they chose to spend their time.

  31. .588 winning percentage including body bag games. Have any of us post Fry ever seen a coach with an overall winning record? By my count, he would have to lose his next 129 games to match the winning percentage of one of his vaunted predecessors.

  33. Most of the same ole diehards will be there. So this platform isn't appropriate. But this fan base has too many fence sitters. And a 11am torrential downpour for a 1pm kick will keep them under a roof without even checking radar. Until these fence sitting alum and current students gravitate to the winning culture this is the scenario that will continue to happen given the weather.

  34. I disagree. For years we heard that people wouldn't show up because Fouts was a dump...so we replaced it. We heard "the offense is boring to watch" as Dickey's teams ran off four straight conference titles...we put up over 400 yards a game and have a QB who is breaking every damn record Then we heard "just win and people will show up"...we are 6-1, coming off a conference title game appearance The bottom line is that North Texas fans will look for ANY reason to keep their asses glued to their couch. We piss, bitch and moan when people don't take us seriously...the truth is, we don't take ourselves seriously.

  41. It happened without us really knowing it, but we've become spoiled as a fanbase. With how we played the first four games this season, it's understandable. We need to enjoy this ride and know that there are going to be ups and downs. Let's hope we haven't peaked yet. I don't think we have. Go Mean Green!!

  44. Another terrible mistake...officiating wise,..was inadvertent whistling the play dead on the “defensive off sides” on that extra point, forcing us to re-kick. You just don’t do that. Pee Wee level move there. And on the mystery forward fumble. If the defensive player did indeed hit the ball hard enough to travel that far then the ball’s flight defied the laws of physics because that player was zooming by in the opposite direction. Rick

  45. Rain was the only reason ones there today. Softball games for one of my kids was cancelled. I won’t be at Homecoming because of another daughter playing volleyball. I’m in my early 40’s with kids. We came to ALL the games in the mid 2000’s before our kids got involved with stuff. I won’t be able to make every game again until my kids are out of the house s long as they’re still involved in stuff. Some of the older alumni (my dad for example) never cared about NTSU football and I can’t convince him to change now. It just wasn’t ever a priority when he went to school there. I know we could have had more students there today, but I was happy to see as many that did show up. It’s getting better. It’s just slow. It’s frustrating that more don’t “jump on the band wagon”.
