  1. this is all pretty simple...sport psych 101, really. we ran out to 4-0...got a bit of national publicity, started dreaming of NYE and 12-0...jumped out early v. La Tech and started to dick around against an actual quality team, made a bunch of mistakes when things got tough and lost a nail-biter. had we come out and simple beat up on an inferior opponent, the "La Tech loss was just a minor blip" mentality would've prevailed and we'd arrogantly go about our season, until the next "blip". Instead, this inferior opponent did us the biggest favor...they (esp. Canales) treated this like a super bowl, gave us a hell of a game and our team showed to itself there is a lot of room for improvement but yet it can pull out a gritty win. this is still a very good team...ESPECIALLY BY NORTH TEXAS STANDARDS. everyone calm down and have some faith the issues will be addressed and that Fine will be better and healthier next week.

  2. We are 5-1 on the season. I was disappointed with the UTEP win last night but started to question myself and my expectations. I realize now that I didn’t just want a win, I wanted a blowout. I wanted to show the college football world that we were as good as everyone talked about after the 4-0 start and SMU/Arkansas dominations. After years of following this program I fell victim to believing the “miracle” season was here. We were going to elevate ourselves to the upper tier of college football. We’d be considered a powerful program that really should be playing in a higher tier conference. No longer would be little old North Texas. No longer would our Alumni send more time/money following UT and A&M instead of their own school. They’d have to believe. LaTech was just a hiccup. By coming back and beating the crap out of UTEP, maybe we’d get back some of the mojo. These were my thoughts and why these last 2 games have been so disappointing. I fell for the hype. I wanted it to be true and for the whole world to see UNT the way I want them to be. We are 5-1. Regardless of the scores we’re still in a great spot. This may not be the year we thrust ourselves into the national spotlight, but the culture is changing at North Texas. We’ve got record large donations coming into the program. We’ve got an awesome recruiting class waiting to make their mark. Things are changing and I (and maybe others) need to enjoy the good without worrying about living up to the hype. This has been a great way to start the season. I have no doubt we’ll be in a bowl game somewhere. We’re making progress.

  3. Thank you UAB for doing what we could not (but had every opportunity to). Beating La Tech put SOME life back into our pursuit of the west division. Now, for our fans who will inevitably say that UAB are now world beaters, allow me to introduce you to UAB’s one loss this season...the mighty Coastal Carolina (47-24) who boasts other wins over Campbell and Louisiana Lafayette. The path is still out there in front of us, and every team is still beatable. We just have to pull our heads out of our asses to do it.

  4. What up britches? Let's keep the train rolling next week against so miss! When was the last time we had an opportunity to become bowl eligible after seven weeks of play? #GMG

  5. Huge game for Cole Hedlund! We really needed those two FG's especially the 52 to win the game! Go MeanGreen

  6. Maybe we're not that great...maybe a couple of key injuries are enough to derail us...maybe teams have figured us out...maybe these teams aren't totally horrible...maybe teams are looking at us as a huge game and we're getting they're best...or maybe it's just good 'ol college football.

  7. This feels about 5000% percent better than the LaTech game, so I don't know what to tell ya. Any win >>>> Any loss. Especially that loss. #GMG

  8. Look, we're all grumpy and not thrilled with this ugly ass game. But that just shows how far we've come. It's a road conference game... step on their throat, get a win, stay healthy, and get the eff out. #GMG

  10. One win away from bowl eligibility . We are only half-way through the season. That is just fun to say.

  14. This is why it's good to have realistic expectations and take it one goal at a time. Goal 1: Beat SMU. Goal 2: 6 wins to be bowl eligible. Goal 3: Win CUSA West. Goal 4. Win the conference championship. Goal 5: Win our bowl game. That's our plan every year. Any time we do 3 out of the 5 its a great year. Do that 3 out of 5 seasons, then we can start adding some new goals.

  15. How long as Brent Stockstill played at M.T.S.U. ? It seems like 7 or 8 years. Wouldn't mind CUSA championship being played in M-boro though because it is only 1.5 hrs drive from my home. Last time I went to a game there Booger had is famous sack and scoop where he sacked MTSU QB and came up with the ball somehow.

  16. I thought the lingo was much different. When Veto asked something like "Are you proud how your team bounced back from the loss last week" Seth replied, "I'm proud they won". He was not proud in how they played. He also began by saying the offense was putrid in the first half. I think Seth was very blunt in his comments.

  17. I think, if UTEP woke this team up from their 6 quarter long slumber, we give a big home crowd something to talk about and go to 6-1. I think, if we continue to have mental lapses like dropped passes and missed assignments, we could lose by a couple touchdowns.

  18. The defense had two interceptions and had some critical stops? This was UTEP’s homecoming game and they’re getting better each week. They play LA Tech in two weeks, perfect timing for UTEP to finally get a win.

  19. We are 5-1 and I have seen every game in HD or have seen in person. What a year!

  20. No. The offense looked way off. The play calling was off. It looked like coaches and players wanted a week off or a way to “just get through with this game”. I’m concerned about southern miss. We could really use a bye next week. This performance will not cut it against southern miss. it also looked like the play calling was built to take care of Mason. A lot more running into a brick wall than usual.

  21. It’s a win against a team rebuilding. UTEP is us 2 years ago...minus a few wins. I think UTEP will be relevant next year. Take the win. Fine completed 68% of his passes for 291 yds 2 TD’s 0 INT’s. Take it and move on.

  24. Total Reset. Three Way Tie for first place in CUSA West is worst possible for North Texas if the Mean Green win out. Tonight's close game with UTEP proved that every and any game can be a dog fight. Go Mean Green!

  25. If we play like we have played the last seven quarters I don't think that we have to worry about winning out. It won't happen. The loss of Easly and Hall really seems to have affected the team. Hopefully, the coaches can correct that.

  26. Neither Offense nor Defense was much improved from last week. But Special Teams sure was improved and we sure needed it: No big mistakes and Hedlund came back from last week and made clutch field goals. He is now 12-14 for the season and I can hardly put the blocked one on him. It was also good to see how much spare room he had when booting a kick from 52 yards out.

  28. Exactly, with Easly gone we don't have a RB capable of making an adjustment if the play is stuffed at the point of attack. There were tons of yards and a few more first downs left on the field if the RB's just get their heads up and see the many, many wide open areas outside of the tackles.

  29. For the last two years Fine, the receivers, the coaching staff, and a few other stalwarts have hid the fact that, from a talent standpoint, this roster has not been built up to the level that their record would indicate. This offensive line still does not have all conference guys, and has been exposed. The defense has played well but we’ve also seen lack of depth hurt the team in recent games. This is a good team, and a solid roster, but this was never a UCF type, 13-0 roster. That’s why it’s not just “oh we barely beat one of the worst FBS teams, that’s not good.” It’s that there are some concerning trends and some weaknesses that we were always winning in spite of to begin with being exposed more recently.

  30. Don't disagree with your thoughts about Mason's personal performance. I DO feel we put him at risk for the rest of the season by playing him. I hope he is not on crutches with his arm in a sling when he gets home. Thought we should have started Shanbour. JMHO.

  31. UAB won and UTEP is going to be tough for teams in the west division going forward. This thing is wide open, North Texas is coming off an emotional loss and gutted out an ugly win. We can sit here and nit pick this win, which is every fans right to do so, but North Texas is 5-1 right now. That is awesome! GMG

  32. It is the weirdest 5-1 feeling ever, wait the only 5-1 feeling I think I’ve ever felt. Utep will win a game this season. Everybody had a hangover. The desert games can be strange and out of whack. A win in the desert feels like rarified air. smile and pack the house next weekend! gmg

  33. Ummm he completed close to 70% of his balls... had 7 drops that I can remember and over threw JG 1 time....Fine did enough to help us win. Early on he had 0 protection
