  1. Just sitting here thinking about this weekend. Massive crowd. Team that plays at a high level with few self-inflicted mistakes. One of the best QBs in the CFB. A marketing promotion making national news. We've waited so long to see this and it gives me chills. The stars are aligned. Great coach, great AD, great President. Supportive chancellor and Board (led by an unsung hero for athletics in Brint Ryan). This is what "it" feels like and it feels so damn good. Here's hoping that we keep the team intact and that if/when we do lose any of them, the culture and resources are there to continue our trajectory. It feels different this time, like we may really have changed the future of our athletic program.

  3. Loved the way you took down SMU. I didn't get the game here in the Boston area, but the numbers were incredible. You completely dominated. I know we don't play each other, but if you ever want to talk TCU sports, skip the old site and come over to The Frog Horn. No ads and no (well, fewer) idiots. My dad was a UNT guy, so I'm a fan. GMG

  4. no... Even taking into account your argument about scheduling the P5's for 1 (maybe 2 games?) a year, that would only apply to Texas or Oklahoma schools. Realistically, only OK St, Baylor, Tech, TCU and maaayyyyyybe A&M would give us a home game. Additionally, we are living in a world where college football attendance is dwindling across the board, expanding without the excessive need would seem to be a large expense for little return. Keep Apogee the same size and just turn it into a hot ticket.

  6. Just awoke from my long nap & “WALA!” It’s football season! A Potpourri Manifesto of Sorts (what else did you expect)?😊 In my 45’th year of following Mean Green football this last Saturday at a rockin’ & hop’n (it's electrifin’) Apogee Stadium topped anything I’ve seen in over 4 decades. It was a major U of North Texas production involving everyone—every group...ALL—-THE—-WAY!” Didn’t we all leave Apogee with complete satisfaction? • Had there not been television in DFW you’d had another 3,000 SRO fans trying to find a place to stand while pissin’ off the Denton Fire Marshall. Duly Note: We did just that once before in 1975 with 10,700 sardines packed in the Super Pit versus ...S M U.(I'm shrinking, I'm shrinking). • I agree with Adler-- “expand now—reap the benefits later.” Experts suggest the Big 12 will not look like it does today in membership maybe sooner than later. UNT will once again be at the train station in a time of conference realignment—do we move forward or get left behind?***** A 9K seat 2’nd deck on the student side would really complete Apogee Stadium & (perhaps) give us new options. •They built Apogee with eventual plans for a 2’nd deck........ FireFightinRick showed me where the expansion would be on a pregame tour couple years back. Yes, more fish to fry plus an IPF to build but.......at least begin a study of expanding our stadium)? PERCEPTION IS (still) EVERYTHING! Some UNT Head Football Coach seeing such plans for expansion might inspire him to want to stick around a bit longer & be UNT’s version of TCU’s Coach (I ain’t going anywhere) Patterson. To all who I saw at the Tailgate, "The Game" * my extended Mean Green family a hearty—GLAD I GOT TO SEE SOME FRIENDLY FACES FROM YEARS/DECADES PAST &...GO MEAN GREEN!

  9. Thank you, and God bless you Dr Norval F Pohl. Your dreams for North Texas are all becoming a reality. People doubted when you said that North Texas, a university with few resources, could become a National Tier 1 Research Institution. People in the North Texas academic community scoffed when you brought in former Alabama coach Gene Stallings as an adviser on how to build and sustain a nationally respected athletic program at the University of North Texas. You and your bride Barbikay would be so pleased with our current North Texas President Neal Smatresk and the outstanding people that he has brought in to continue your legacy. Dr Norval F Pohl passed away in 2009, and Barbikay passed in 2016. Their contributions to this university will never be forgotten.

  10. They had very very few game highlights so they show a lot of players jogging around in practice last week, lots and lots of filler, show only their few highlights from the game, and fail to say who won. It's like watching really bad Baghdad Bob propaganda television. Click Here: PonyUp TV - The North Texas Game

  14. Took a few minutes to go to SMU's fansite. Many of them are talking about dropping football. Many of them are saying they are embarrassed for their small fanbase and lack of support. Most of them spoke about how they intentionally didn't watch the game. It made me happy. We have been through really really rough times and its nice to pay it forward. Especially to these folks.

  15. Got another shout out on their morning show. I’m paraphrasing but it was mentioned that, “UNT kicked the snot out of SMU”, that “they look like a championship team,” and that, “the Mean Green are the real deal.” Some more good pub!

  22. SMU had more penalty yards than total yards at the end of the third quarter. Awesome. I'm old enough to remember when SMU was unstoppable, so I still hate SMU. I hate to say this because it sounds arrogant, but it's true: We're their Super Bowl every year now. They play out of their minds against us. I expect a much better game from SMU on Saturday Friday, but I'm still obviously pretty confident. Your QB looks legit. Hope you can keep your coach around for a few years, too. If you find the guy who will stick with you, there's no telling how far you can go. North Texas is a sleeping giant. I'd love to see you replace Baylor in the Big 12 ...

  24. The bigs are not playing at Apogee because of the size of the stadium. They seldom play away anywhere against a G5, because it makes no financial sense. They can pay $1m+ and get a home game with no return and make a lot more money and a lot less risk of losing.

  26. Agree that we should be planning for the future. Future schedules are planned way in advance. I don't know if you can justify expanding the stadium just to host 1 OOC regional P5 opponent game a season which is probably all we're talking about in the current alignment. What would we need, another 10K to 15K seats to lure these teams to Apogee? Of course, there's no guarantee that those fans actually travel and show up. However, if it's to setup for the next round of conference re-alignment and we're talking 5 or 6 games a season that need those seats, now you're talking. One thing for certain is we'd need a lot more parking and much better traffic management to handle another 10-15 thousand fans attending games. Apparently, we need a lot more pizza too...hahahaha!!

  30. Driving in this morning I noticed WBAP's morning crew kept giving out all the Texas college scores but ours. Brian Estridge, the voice of TCU football usually gives us a shout out. Not this time. Even after poking on Twitter a couple of times, nothing. Then I get to work and dig out the Sunday paper's college football section, nothing. Asked another alumn to look at his at home, nothing. On the Startlegram's on line version they have the post game press conference of the players. So they did send someone? So unless I'm missing it the paper here balked on our game. If so what the hell are they afraid of? Rick

  33. I don't buy that at all. Lincoln Riley had never been a HC at any level and only an OC at the P5 level for two years before OU hired him as HC. Project are current success out 3-5 years and any school in the nation would want Seth. Texas hired Tom Herman after only being a HC at the G5 level for two years. You really don't think OU would hire Seth after winning 8+ games at UNT for 5-8 years??

  35. I'm with you on this. I'd also like to see the wing rounded off and filled in. It's a dumb gimmick that doesn't look good, and nobody wants to sit in the top corners of that thing; especially not towards October or November when it gets cold. I eventually want us to cap out at 40-50k. I've been to games at McLane and Amon G. Carter stadiums (both 45k capacity) and you honestly can't tell the difference from 70-80k when it gets loud and sound traps. Just add a second deck and close off the wing. EDIT: Exactly like this.

  36. I honestly don't know if he would take it. Tech is a good school with a lot of cash, but what is there potential? Will they ever overtake UT, OU, or TCU in the Big XII? If there is a conference shake up down the road and UT and OU bolt the Big XII, is there a chance UNT gets invited should we continue our upward trajectory? I know the tendency is to expect coaches to jump at jobs that pay more, etc... but SL strikes me differently. There is something to be said about working for a supportive administration, BOR, AD, etc... In fact, I think he has stated as much. Why wouldn't he just stay and become our Patterson?

  37. Why is it that EVERY time that play or The Drive series is posted on here, I stop down and watch it as if I have never seen it before, and with almost the same joy at the end. My boss is pissed right now. One other thing: I can't believe how good our team was in getting to the line, setting up and getting the next play off in The Drive. The entire offense should have gotten the game ball that day, for The Drive. GMG

  39. Just wanted to say that I love the quality of the Stadium broadcasts. The analysts do a great job. You can hear genuine excitement in the way the call the game. Conversation is actually focused on the game at hand/CUSA related topics and not just an advertisement for some upcoming spare P5 matchup like ESPN does. Love the way they mic the stadium. It really captures the energy and noise from the crowd. The first sack of the SMU game and pick 6 sounded so amazing. Streaming it through Facebook also makes it super accessible for any of our fans to watch. Just wanted to give a shout out to Stadium for doing a great job. I appreciate the way they cover the game.

  40. I can’t remember who, but I heard a P5 AD once say that he wanted a third of his stadium to be sold out from season tickets. For Apogee, that number equates to approximately 10k. Last I heard, we were still under 5k. That seems like a fair target to me. Once we get there and actually have a sellout or two under our belt and we have strung together some sustained success on the field, I would agree it’s time to consider expansion. Until then, just win! I agree with the comment that you don’t add seats to cater to visiting team fans. When Texas travels to USC, do you really think the administration at USC is concerned about seating for Texas fans? If anything, they’re trying to figure out how to get more USC fans in the building to keep Texas fans out.
