  1. I dare someone to try to diagram that sentence.

  2. I hear ya, but that's not realistic.... With social media being the main way 18-22 year olds communicate today...."slang crap" is what you're going to get. You might as well say " I would rather we not have any 18-22 year olds on our team. And I don't want to bury the lead here.....He seems to be saying he feels good and is ready to play. As a Mean Green fan that excites me.

  4. Outside of just saying "day ones' it all seems quite english to me. But, I understood what he meant the first time. Because I am hip. And cool. And 'with it' with the kids. Decent english, English. Except for the double negatives. Bryce, get your double negatives together! You aren’t not killing me!

  7. Switching to physicality, I sincerely hope that his body is ready for the demands he is going to make on it. I expect the coaches to have a leash on him to some extent so that he doesn't overdo it in the first week and find himself re-injured. Bryce...we want to see you lined up on September 1 and thereafter. Please ease back into game shape.

  12. Regarding the AAC. If you preach P6 and inclusion, eventually the day arrives when fans are tired of hearing about it and never seeing it. Their anger is going to turn to the AD because he failed. Their president and AD for failing to get it done also. There is a reason why most smart business people adhere to the idea of under-promise and over-deliver. The AAC isn't going to be able to deliver so why build your marketing around something you have no control over and almost certainly cannot deliver? The Sun Belt? Right now there are two coaches I expect to see be the next to hit the coaching powerball. Neal Brown at Troy and Scott Satterfield at Appalachian State. Really good coaches. Blake Anderson at A-State? If he lays an egg this year he's toast, serious talk among people with actual money that just breaking .500 and making a bowl won't be sufficient to buy him another year. South Alabama made a good hire. Steve Campbell was very successful in the Southland and takes over a team that has managed some nice wins (Miss St and San Diego St) but has been plagued by an inconsistent offense. Campbell will fix that. Billy Napier at Louisiana may have been the best off-season hire, making real noise in recruiting. Figure three years max and he's off to big money.

  17. I can respect that. But, the head coaches office is a place where you sell the program. It needs to have some character and project refinement. Right now we don't appear to have that. Littell's desk looks like they pulled it out of some freshman's dorm room. I know the athletic department has a interview background with the logo all over it. Or, the department could have set up a space in the club level of Apogee, looking down over the field.

  20. I like his office, it shows to me; he doesn't care about that kind of stuff. My guess is that he thinks there are a myriad of things that NT needs more than a fancy office.

  21. Let's worry about getting our players on TV first. This was twitter for Christ's sake. Now, I am not saying English is Shakespeare, but I find the irony awesome. Shakespeare "invented" - aka slang - 1700 words that we have continued to use over the years. http://shakespeare-online.com/biography/wordsinvented.html Here is a book from 1886 laying out the words that Shakespeare only used once: https://archive.org/details/onceusedwordsins00butl

  24. Let's hope that we get a serious update when the Athletics Center gets expanded in this next year (or two). The Center itself still looks pretty good but the major offices need plenty of work. Since the addition will be toward the stadium, I expect the AD and coaches offices will be relocated there with a view of the playing field. The expansion toward the south should update the weight room to the size and standard of at least any G5 and likely better than many of the P5s. The improvements in the current building should update the locker rooms. We may not be an Oregon, Notre Dame or Oklahoma State but we definitely won't be an embarrassment.

  25. Not a reflection on them. If anything, they're frustrated and forced to continue to recruit the position.

  26. Internet has accelerated two things, IMO: 1) Evolution of informal language and slang 2) The blending of informal/formal I personally don't mind new vocab/slang, but it wigs me out when structure is in question. I think what Bryce is doing here that should be corrected is the double negative. Last thought if anyone cares: write what you want but be mindful if you're trying to impress the right people. EDIT: It's my understanding that more and more prospective employers are looking at your social media presence.

  28. Read over the weekend in a local paper that's tossed on my yard every Sunday that he's now coaching OL at Lake Dallas High School. He didn't have any offers from the college ranks, and apparently still lives in the area & wanted to stay close by! Great news for the Falcons. http://starlocalmedia.com/lakecitiessun/sports/lake-dallas-brings-on-leftwich-to-helm-offensive-line/article_9e120e3a-91d6-11e8-b456-ef5963b11afa.html#utm_campaign=blox&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social

  31. The MAC definitely did not need this. With the exception of Toledo and Ohio the MAC didn't draw well with weekend games. Oh, if Central and Western Michigan had good teams they could draw well enough for the FBS but the rest of the league needs to be at the FCS level even though some were pretty solid in bygone years. The MAC fudged a little to get into the FBS. Several of their members did not have the required 30,000 seat stadiums for Division I (FBS) but were allowed if the majority of the conference did. I think maybe the same held true for the 17,000 attendance requirement. If G5 members want to play on Wednesday nights then it should be on an individual basis, not conference. Only those members who average 17,000 and above should have that option IMO. We need to be strength-ening the G5s, not weakening them.

  34. Hey guys, @untsportsfan and I started a basketball podcast. Link is below for our first episode. We’re new to this so our first run was a little rough around the edges but I thought I’d post anyways. Hopefully you enjoy some of the discussion. 36. Not certain how this plays out, but this is setting up for that '19 class to take us to a level we have never seen in Denton before. I get shivers thinking what if? what if we have a 10-win season this year, win the bowl game, then open 2019 undefeated through OOC play? Where will this program be? How different would the culture be? Can we keep this up for, say, 8 outta 10 years?

  37. You can thank LSU for that. Tulane was the original University of Louisiana many years ago. It decided to go private so it archived the University of Louisiana name. Southwestern Louisiana Institute had become large wanted a name change that sounded more prestigious so they went to Tulane to see if they ever planned to use the University of Louisiana name again. Tulane said no so SLI filed with the state legislature to change their name to the University of Louisiana. When the bill was presented in the legislature, that august body, composed of a majority of LSU grads decided that it would give it too much prestige over Louisiana State which is usually the second banana in a state's pecking order. So, they said that the Lafayette school could use the University of Louisiana if they could get another university in Louisiana to also be called the University of Louisiana at (wherever). SLI was to use the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Well, they got Northeast Louisiana University to agree to change their name to University of Louisiana at Monroe but since the name was so long they preferred to use ULM. University of Louisiana at Lafayette was even longer. Louisiana-Lafayette didn't fit the marquee either so they just used the sign that's actually on the entrance to their campus...University of Louisiana. Because ULM did not want to use either Louisiana-Monroe or UL-Monroe and I guess because the Lafayette campus was much older, they deferred using the term University of Louisiana. Long story short; anytime you see Louisiana or University of Louisiana it refers to the Lafayette campus. The Sun Belt Conference uses Louisiana referring to Lafayette. Some sports magazines also use Louisiana alone. It may take years for 'Louisiana' to catch on but perhaps in twenty or thirty years through common usage it will happen. It's happened for me.

  41. This is a run down of the three posts from Page 3, July 17th moving forward: - UNTLifer: "Here's a political article (op-ed) that supports my world viewpoint" - SWB: "I vehemently disagree with the article (op-ed) YOU, UNTLIFER, just posted and here are my reasons why" - UNTLifer: "yo, calm down bro...this is a sports site...why are you getting all political?" you don't get to, LOGICALLY, post something political, have it argued and then rather than arguing the argument...take umbrage with the argument being political. had you posted an article about UNT Football and SWB responded with a diatribe about immigration, anchor babies and the class struggle...then you'd have a leg to stand on, LOGICALLY. but you didn't. so you don't. as to the rest of your little rant...I'm lost. I haven't quoted Vox or any C-List liberal. I haven't quoted anyone. by my count I've made a half dozen posts in this thread...all satirical and condescending, sure...but none actually expressing a political opinion, but rather hoping, nay, yearning for some people to actually maintain and opine with something resembling intellectual consistency. CBL Post 1: I'm pro-family, pro-children and pro-life vs. Unless you're a post-womb'd, illegal immigrant. Then, here's your cage. CBL Post 2: The USA is over...we should just split up vs. But GD you stand for the flag and anthem CBL Post 3: apparently ignoring the WHY an American presidential candidate was forced into providing a birth certificate, 807 days vs. now 552 days CBL Post 4: I'm actually both a humanitarian and a conservationist vs. both stop if it's not the brown people we're talking about CBL Post 5: here, politics! vs. dude, no politics! CBL Post 6: wait...you serious? now...before you just go back to the bag and think the trusty 7-iron of "liberal", "bias", "agenda", "C-List celeb with an opinion" is going to be the right play, step back a moment... - step out the yardage - re-check the lie - up-hill? down-hill? - what is the wind doing? - where is the pin...front? back? - have the greens been holding or should I go a club down and chase it on?
