  1. Not certain how this plays out, but this is setting up for that '19 class to take us to a level we have never seen in Denton before. I get shivers thinking what if? what if we have a 10-win season this year, win the bowl game, then open 2019 undefeated through OOC play? Where will this program be? How different would the culture be? Can we keep this up for, say, 8 outta 10 years?

  4. Damn this post got me. I was reading it thinking it was happening this month until I realized all of these posts are from 2017. I was here thinking why in the hell do we care about UTSA recruiting when we are supposed to have the number one recruiting class in CUSA? I cannot be drinking beer and reading these comments again. Oh well, off to get another beer.

The MAC didn’t play a single Saturday conference game in November. It’s pushed the Mountain West to play tons of late games, a source of frustration." I'm not sure if what the MAC agreed to was beneficial. Every game I watched had really low attendance. A good example of this for us is our Thursday night 8:30pm game against FAU.

  10. Lol when I replied I didn't realize it was from 2017, my bad, hence why I deleted my post. And I generally agree with your statement.

  11. Yeah now, after we win a few games. Wilson just landed 3 recruits this weekend. He'll get his. Am I happy it's improving? Hell Yeah. Let's be sure we hold on to those guys now. Doesn't mean anything if they sign somewhere else in December/February.

  13. The MAC definitely did not need this. With the exception of Toledo and Ohio the MAC didn't draw well with weekend games. Oh, if Central and Western Michigan had good teams they could draw well enough for the FBS but the rest of the league needs to be at the FCS level even though some were pretty solid in bygone years. The MAC fudged a little to get into the FBS. Several of their members did not have the required 30,000 seat stadiums for Division I (FBS) but were allowed if the majority of the conference did. I think maybe the same held true for the 17,000 attendance requirement. If G5 members want to play on Wednesday nights then it should be on an individual basis, not conference. Only those members who average 17,000 and above should have that option IMO. We need to be strength-ening the G5s, not weakening them.

  15. When these young men are signed(Dec2018/Feb2019) then let's talk about who out recruited who. These are pretty much projections right now......IMHO.

  19. Yes, but if a bottom of the barrel conference splits, I don't see any advantage to that move. Losing your NCAA basketball guarantee and just playing in a smaller conference does not make competitive or financial sense.

  20. Well, the first iteration of WAC exodus went and made their own conference.

  21. Should go without saying, although I'll say it, keeping Mason Fine healthy is crucial to our success. Best wishes to Weatherspoon. This unit needs to stay injury-free and strong for us in '18. Reducing the number of Fine sacks is so important.

  22. Going back and reading this thread now makes for some interesting reading. UNT is ranked #1 in CUSA and, what, 54th in the nation in recruiting at the current time. Sometimes it takes a guy a bit to get his recruiters and recruiting system in place after taking over a program that had a difficult time even spelling “recruiting”. Anyway, the worm seems to have turned and UNT seems to be a program heading in a very positive direction. Still, in the end it is only about two letters, not recruiting star rankings. Those two letters being “W and L”. I am thinking UNT sees a lot more “W’s” than “L’s” these days.

  27. I doubt you have any interest in an explanation. If you did, you could watch or read thousands of comments supporting many views. I will ask you a question, how can you define a country without borders? The USA is a place in North American between Canada and Mexico. If it must be explained to you, that a undefined country cannot exist than I have nothing that is going to enlighten you. You can wakeup in El Paso and wonder not only what country your in as well as what state.

  30. This is a run down of the three posts from Page 3, July 17th moving forward: - UNTLifer: "Here's a political article (op-ed) that supports my world viewpoint" - SWB: "I vehemently disagree with the article (op-ed) YOU, UNTLIFER, just posted and here are my reasons why" - UNTLifer: "yo, calm down bro...this is a sports site...why are you getting all political?" you don't get to, LOGICALLY, post something political, have it argued and then rather than arguing the argument...take umbrage with the argument being political. had you posted an article about UNT Football and SWB responded with a diatribe about immigration, anchor babies and the class struggle...then you'd have a leg to stand on, LOGICALLY. but you didn't. so you don't. as to the rest of your little rant...I'm lost. I haven't quoted Vox or any C-List liberal. I haven't quoted anyone. by my count I've made a half dozen posts in this thread...all satirical and condescending, sure...but none actually expressing a political opinion, but rather hoping, nay, yearning for some people to actually maintain and opine with something resembling intellectual consistency. CBL Post 1: I'm pro-family, pro-children and pro-life vs. Unless you're a post-womb'd, illegal immigrant. Then, here's your cage. CBL Post 2: The USA is over...we should just split up vs. But GD you stand for the flag and anthem CBL Post 3: apparently ignoring the WHY an American presidential candidate was forced into providing a birth certificate, 807 days vs. now 552 days CBL Post 4: I'm actually both a humanitarian and a conservationist vs. both stop if it's not the brown people we're talking about CBL Post 5: here, politics! vs. dude, no politics! CBL Post 6: wait...you serious? now...before you just go back to the bag and think the trusty 7-iron of "liberal", "bias", "agenda", "C-List celeb with an opinion" is going to be the right play, step back a moment... - step out the yardage - re-check the lie - up-hill? down-hill? - what is the wind doing? - where is the pin...front? back? - have the greens been holding or should I go a club down and chase it on?

  31. His professional goal is to be a coach. He's already been doing that (helping with the new QB's) since shortly after coming to the program. I happen to sit next to Coach Pearson (father of Cade) during one of the early spring scrimmages this year. When we discussed the overall QB situation I mentioned Shanbour. I was pretty shocked at his reaction. He couldn't say enough good things about Shanbour. He said that he and his son thought that Shanbour was the finest example of a team player that they have ever met. He also thought that there wasn't a smarter player on the team. Now that we have established that Quinn Shanbour is a person of exceptional character and intelligence, I would like to remind everyone that my assessment of his QB skills has not changed. The guy can play QB!

  33. The problem is that there's a huge gap between the the budgets of the top schools in the AAC and the top schools in CUSA. That is always going to be a factor. Can we grow? Yes, but not with schools we're associated with. We need to grow along with the UH's and Cincinnati's of the world, not USM an Charlotte.

  34. Thanks! We both follow the women’s team so we will discuss them once the season starts. Not sure how in-depth we’ll go, but we will go over them.

  35. I personally would love to see a Mean Green baseball team. There is so much young talent in this area that I think we could bring our way. Obviously it will take time to build a dominant program, but I think it would benefit UNT as well as the whole city of Denton.

  38. True. Their power spread is propelled by their good running backs. Most of their pass TDs come from tied or behind (65%) while most of their ruTDs come from ahead (68%). They play it pretty conservative until until it stops working and they pass pass pass. Not sure that's a good formula.

  42. Don't see any confirmed offers from OU or Arkansas. I think this kid is talking out his backside. I don't think this will stick either. The kid is moving from a private school to a public school this year. My guess is he's made the move for more exposure die to not getting the type of offers he (and, probably, his dad) want. I think he's gaming UTSA. He, perhaps, has nothing to lose. If he really is good, and can put up the same type of numbers/performance in a large public school district as he did in TAPPS, he'll likely garner P5 offers. However, if he doesn't perform well, he'll already be committed to UTSA. You just wonder if UTSA will keep the offer out if he tanks in the bigger, more competitive atmosphere. If they do, he'll not really gambling all that much. But we'll see.
