  4. I always appreciate a trip down Mean Green memory lane but the similarities don't exist. I was worried both about the record and the future going into the 2014 season. We lost a ton and nothing about Mac and his recruiting pointed towards replenishing the roster. I was fully on board with the Mac hire but you could definitely see things weren't all roses. 2013 was great but it felt like a mirage. We could step back record-wise this year (it's entirely possible) and I'd still feel good about the future. As Jay and Mr. Gooding pointed out, our QB stable is stacked and sexy. Recruiting overall is pointing upward. Even if Coach Littrell left I feel like a foundation is being built. Completely different feeling from 2014. Nice clickbait though. 🙂

  7. I lived in the Birmingham area last year and really liked the local sports talk station: JOX FM. They talk LOADS of college football. I don't live there anymore but still live stream them occasionally. This morning they were previewing UT and asked the question: "What FBS team in the state of Texas will have the most wins this year?" They are high on UT, but then went through the rest: Aggies, TTEch, Baylor....then said: of all the schools in Texas, North Texas has a great shot to win the most games in the state They are high on UAB and said that if UAB wins the west, UNT will have a hard time winning 9-10. But they think UNT has a shot to win 10 games. They do a good job of covering CUSA and give UAB plenty of mention (hard to do in the center of SEC Country) But they have always spoke highly of UNT and Seth Littrell. Can we get this season started already?!

  8. Zero comparison. Mac constantly trashed the previous coach and players. Mac hated recruiting and even allowed his D.C. to skip recruiting altogether. Not only has SL never trashed the previous coach...he's never flashed his national championship ring in our faces to brag about himself. Absolutely no comparison at all. Rick

  10. This is a run down of the three posts from Page 3, July 17th moving forward: - UNTLifer: "Here's a political article (op-ed) that supports my world viewpoint" - SWB: "I vehemently disagree with the article (op-ed) YOU, UNTLIFER, just posted and here are my reasons why" - UNTLifer: "yo, calm down bro...this is a sports site...why are you getting all political?" you don't get to, LOGICALLY, post something political, have it argued and then rather than arguing the argument...take umbrage with the argument being political. had you posted an article about UNT Football and SWB responded with a diatribe about immigration, anchor babies and the class struggle...then you'd have a leg to stand on, LOGICALLY. but you didn't. so you don't. as to the rest of your little rant...I'm lost. I haven't quoted Vox or any C-List liberal. I haven't quoted anyone. by my count I've made a half dozen posts in this thread...all satirical and condescending, sure...but none actually expressing a political opinion, but rather hoping, nay, yearning for some people to actually maintain and opine with something resembling intellectual consistency. CBL Post 1: I'm pro-family, pro-children and pro-life vs. Unless you're a post-womb'd, illegal immigrant. Then, here's your cage. CBL Post 2: The USA is over...we should just split up vs. But GD you stand for the flag and anthem CBL Post 3: apparently ignoring the WHY an American presidential candidate was forced into providing a birth certificate, 807 days vs. now 552 days CBL Post 4: I'm actually both a humanitarian and a conservationist vs. both stop if it's not the brown people we're talking about CBL Post 5: here, politics! vs. dude, no politics! CBL Post 6: wait...you serious? now...before you just go back to the bag and think the trusty 7-iron of "liberal", "bias", "agenda", "C-List celeb with an opinion" is going to be the right play, step back a moment... - step out the yardage - re-check the lie - up-hill? down-hill? - what is the wind doing? - where is the pin...front? back? - have the greens been holding or should I go a club down and chase it on?

  14. Those guys were critical to the team last year, no question. I think the hope is not just on their specific replacements, because I don't think a Trevor Moore is replaceable. He's maybe the best kicker we'll ever see in Denton. To me, the hope is on other areas of the team maturing and becoming strengths and the staff building around them, instead. We were completely built around Wilson in 2016, and really mostly still last year. You saw it emerging last year, but we've got more playmakers emerging on that side of the ball and I expect we'll be less focused on having a RB setup the passing game than we have been. The offense is going to be good. The big question to me is on defense. We're not ever beating an FAU with what we fielded last year. I don't care how good the offense is.

  16. His professional goal is to be a coach. He's already been doing that (helping with the new QB's) since shortly after coming to the program. I happen to sit next to Coach Pearson (father of Cade) during one of the early spring scrimmages this year. When we discussed the overall QB situation I mentioned Shanbour. I was pretty shocked at his reaction. He couldn't say enough good things about Shanbour. He said that he and his son thought that Shanbour was the finest example of a team player that they have ever met. He also thought that there wasn't a smarter player on the team. Now that we have established that Quinn Shanbour is a person of exceptional character and intelligence, I would like to remind everyone that my assessment of his QB skills has not changed. The guy can play QB!

  17. There is truth and value in everything you said. But until I see it not work, there is no way 68 "G5" university's couldn't band together and flex their muscles. Truth be told 30+ "P5" university's would join us in the flex. Bow our necks, put our foot down and call BS on the pigeon holing the NCAA and the money hungry top 30 programs have done to the rest of college athletics. Until I see it not work, I roll my eyes at every weak back pos that concedes...AD, Prez, coach, fan, mascot, water boy, etc...pos. And if you're not bringing it to the forefront, you're conceding to what currently is and you're a pos. This is the attitude you have. Otherwise in 10 years, a movement of God is what it would take for us to be on TV again.

  27. The Belt has done a few good things, the best of which was adding App State. Arkansas State has improved in quality and attendance. Troy has maintained a strong presence in spite of losing their long-time coach. That's about it. The rest of the programs are 'meh' or lower. Louisiana, Texas State and South Alabama rise and fall slightly each year while staying in the meh category. Georgia State started at the bottom and hasn't moved much higher. Georgia Southern has fallen. ULM gets an occasional win that they shouldn't but their attendance and budget smack of Division II. Coastal Carolina contributes nothing to football, although they do have an outstanding baseball program. When you're at the bottom any movement for the better is improvement but that doesn't move the conference past anyone yet. I do wish them well, however. I'm for improvement in all G5 conferences as well as college football as a whole.

  29. NT lost two of their best and most valuable players in Moore and Wilson. However, both the offense and defense should be better this year. The closeness of last year's games demonstrates to me that NT was a team that did what was necessary to win and did not quit. FAU and Troy frankly were just much better teams than NT. Wilson could have made those games closer, but not wins. NT should be one of the best offensive teams in the country this year. The defense will be improved, but how much is the question. There are no guarantees in football, but I like NT's odds to be a significantly better team this year.

  30. My concerns are based on last year. If my math is right, we were only 14 points away from a 5-7 regular season last year. I hope losing Jeffery Wilson and Trevor Moore doesn’t equate to a 14 point season swing in the wrong direction. I just need to see more from their replacements. I suppose you could say I’m letting the past shape my perception.

  35. just because someone asks for an explanation of another's opinion doesn't mean that they are clearly taking the opposite track. but. I guess I'll step things out for you again: GG: "A no border solution just will not work in the best interest of any nation in the long term." this is an absolute statement, but one with zero actual foundation. it's the logical (I know...you're sick of seeing this word) equivalent of this statement: "this thing, that we've never before seen or experienced, 100% definitely could not work" I asked GG for an explanation for his absolute statement. I didn't advocate for a no-borders world. I've never read of anyone doing so. I never even thought of a zero border world until someone with passionate conviction opined that it was impossible. have fun, sport

  39. If the stark differences between this point in 2014 and now are not readily apparent, I don't know that you could be helped, @Harry. I'm talking coaching, returning starters, recruiting, actual momentum and respect, institutional change, and leadership from the top-down that are in sync with one another. We are, truthfully, an entire Age away from where we were four years ago. There is near no common ground to be found.

  41. Reality Check reading this. I feel like the guys that Littrell has here are better equipped for success. They can take the highs and the lows and learn from them. The first few games will say a lot. Fine said last year that he wanted to learn how to close out games. I think he proves he can this year.

  43. I was a freshman at UNT that year and that was my first college road trip. Everyone's hit the nail on the head about what a con job the refs pulled in that game but one thing that I thought was pretty funny -- as we did our long slow drive back from Austin to Denton on Sunday we passed a car on I-35 with the following scrawled in shoe polish on their back window: "UNT 24 Refs 14 Texas 13". Thought that pretty much was spot on! haha
