  6. Carlos is awesome. Wears red pants for one week in May every year. Advocate for a lot of meaningful causes. He worked with the wife for 5 years, he comes to all football and most of basketball games. He is for sure going to be a cheerleader for athletics, and truly bleeds green through and through. Trading him for Silva.....this is a good day.

  7. Looking at sports-reference, there have been 15 passers with 5,000 yards in a season (with repeat QBs like Harrell). 14 winning teams. 1 losing team (5-7 Mahomes' Tech). Passing a lot on a team built to pass a lot works, y'all.
    3 points
  8. That seems pretty exclusive. There are 100+ QBs that play every year for the past 100 years and it has only happened 12 times in over 10k attempts.

  9. So, I was reading the article about Mason Fine and could he throw for 5000 yards when I noticed this article about Throwback Thursday and it featured Houston at North Texas in 1975. I was about 6 when this game was played and my only care in the world back then was playing outside and getting dirty. It was interesting to watch that film. I can't remember the last time I ever saw a receiver get in a 3 point stance. North Texas ran the I formation, the veer, the wing-T and other formations. Haven't seen those in years. What was most hysterical was seeing that Houston Cougar mascot. I bet they are glad that is gone. Haha. Can someone who was old enough to remember Mean Green football that year tell me what they have on the sides of their helmets? I cannot tell because there are really no closeups. https://swcroundup.com/news/2018/5/31/throwback-thursday-1975-houston-at-north-texas

  10. Hey again fellow Mean Green! Just wanted to let you know some upcoming events in case you end up in the relevant cities. Cerebus said it was cool to occasionally put these updates since I'm not actively trying to sell you stuff. If you find yourself in Phoenix the last Wednesday of the month, I'm regularly appearing at Lolo's Chicken and Waffles downtown (1220 S. Central) for clean comedy at 7:30 p.m. They have the show every Wednesday, but I'm there the last week every month. He now usually has me headline since I have loads of clean jokes and can perform as long as he needs me to! And you know you've hit the big time when you headline at Lolo's Chicken and Waffles 😉 Most other Wednesdays, I'll be hosting the open mic at Crack-Ups Comedy Club, adjacent to Toso's Sports Bar and Restaurant, at 2401 W. Union Hills Drive. Saturday, June 30th at 6 p.m. I'll be hosting and producing a clean comedy show featuring some nationally touring comedians who have also appeared in commercials, tv shows, and indie films. It is part of the Duke City Comic Con, taking place from Friday June 29th to Sunday July 1st. If you have purchased a pass either for Saturday or the whole weekend, it is included with your Convention admission. It is at the Hotel Albuquerque Old Town. I will also be selling my art there all weekend and will be doing a live watercolor painting demo that will be raffled off. Friday, June 13th, I'm producing and featuring in a Cosplay and Art Comedy Show at Comedy Off Main Street at 38 S. McDonald in Mesa, AZ to coincide with their 2nd Friday monthly Art Walk. It will be hosted by my friend who is a famous cosplayer (costume model and promoter) known as AZ Powergirl Cara Nicole. Times TBA. The board game I'm illustrating is in its final stages, and we will hopefully be Kickstarting in July. It is called To Grandmother's House and will be an all-ages game with lots of monsters and other fun supernatural stuff. If any of you happen to be in the Phoenix or Albuquerque areas on those dates, I hope to see you there...and be sure to say hi! You can stay updated more often than every few months if you want to follow my social media below. Thanks and I hope to be able to visit Mean Green Country again soon! 11. Texas men...yes, but, like you I don’t recall the UT women playing at the Super Pit. Let’s pack the pit for this one! Note to self: why just “this one”? Let’s pack the Super Pit for every game...women and men. Getting older...I need these little reminders. 🙂

  15. I agree. I expect to see an increase in his numbers because we don't have Wilson behind him anymore. But yeah, he'll be winging it around a lot more if we're down a bunch. See what he did at SMU & in the N.O. Bowl.

  16. The only time I recall Texas (men) playing here, NT won. "The feed to Pat Hicks with time running out. He shoots. NT WINS !!! NT WINS !!! NT WINS !!!" Or something like that.

  19. The cost of stained concrete can vary greatly. For a basic application of a single stain color with sealer and minimal surface prep, most contractors charge between $2 and $4 per square foot. So it would have been very expensive.

  21. Wow. I've never seen anything like this before. I've always wondered about a shooter that could get the inbound, turn, and hit it from 7/8 court. Do these guys have any eligibility left ?

  25. I also love the darker color of the turf compared to the old one. I was wondering why they were putting the logo "Building Champions. Preparing Leaders" under the visitor's bench. It won't be noticeable during a game but in pictures like this it looks good.

  26. I mean I didn't read the article cause it's so weird this specific site exists and that it really is just about Texas teams. But I don't think Fine hits 5,000 yards. That's not a knock, this offense is more balanced than we give it credit for. Littrell's 2 seasons: 50/50 pass/rush.

  27. The idea that this is a national broadcast is laughable. CBSSN is not included in a lot of cable packages. The coverage of the network may actually be less than ESPN3 which has long been derided on here as not a national broadcast.

  28. I think this is a huge risk/reward for CUSA--they seem to be going all in on the idea that these two teams will be their best two and want to showcase the game in a national broadcast. I think that is a very realistic possibility. I could see this feasibly being a sellout, especially if we are in first place in the West and FAU is in first place in the East--they'll be ranked if their only loss is to OU, we could be ranked if we beat Arkansas... But if we aren't able to keep up our end of the bargain, the crowd that night will not be that good. Thursday night games early in the season usually do pretty well, but as the season progresses, if you aren't that good, the attendance drops anyway, but ESPECIALLY bad for a weeknight game--and that isn't considering any weather issues, which we know is somewhat possible. Some of those weeknight games in the SBC, MAC, or MWC can look dreadful on TV when the host team is not having a good season.

  30. At the first Coaches Caravan Wren said that we were about $500,000 short and that construction would start after the coming season is over. I believe that the total cost was around $14M.

  32. I could be wrong, but I think Kaydon Kirby was the player whose dad died and he ended up leaving with eligibility still remaining. He was a walkon from Flower Mound that wound up earning the starting center position, along with a scholarship.

  33. How are they going to play teams in the states other then during the season?

  34. If gets 5,000 yards then I doubt we have a great season. Probably means we were behind a lot. If he had similar stats to last year with an uptick in completion percentage and a downtick in INTs, we'll be just fine.

  35. It was better in person. And even better than that after I turned around from where I had been standing on the sidelines and met eye to eye with the smart ass Georgia fan sitting on the front row who had been heckling me and our players since the start of the game...and with a surprised look on his face gives me an accepting grin, a thumbs up and yells out..."Y'all gotta a good team, dude!". He was cool from that point on as were everyone else during the walk back to the car. Rick

  38. The late start time does hurt for me. Instead of catching a Saturday/Sunday (I'm six hours ahead) night game, my only option is to try and watch the game at 2:30am in the UK Friday morning (which now I am considering taking off work for). Despite the minor inconvenience, I welcome the challenge of hosting FAU at home on a Thursday. I expect attendance to be low given our sheepish student body but a strong showing in a national televised game, against a possibly ranked opponent can only benefit the football program. Wren and Co. will do their best to pack Apogee. Perhaps they will incentivize our student body similar to the way they did last year vs. UTSA.

  39. Love it. we will need all the help we can get to beat this FAU team, and weird things tend to happen on Thursday nights.

The battle flag flies on a permanent basis in the front of our house along with a “protected by the Mean Green” sign and an Alumni Association banner. We got it pretty much covered! 👍 Proudly!

  45. This is the best possible scenario for this coaching staff. You rid yourself of all the guys at the end of the bench and/or non impact players; creating 3-4 more scholarships. Obviously, Z Simmons needs help down low with fatigue and constant foul trouble. This allows 1-2 additional big men to compete better against bigger and better competition. Lawson, I feel, can easily be replaced with someone more suited for this offense and a higher IQ. I appreciate his service to the team but he was so lost out there. I would go get a legit big man (6-9 or 6-10) that can pound down-low. Another PF/C type and the best wing in the 6-6/6-7 range. I think we are ok at point but could use another true point guard, other than Woolridge. (I know about the early commit in 2019). There are at least 3 scholarship available next year (Duffy, Miller & Tope) This is just a golden opportunity to really take the next step, if addressed properly. With 3-4 available, possibly a grad transfer, juco transfer, HS kid(s) and maybe the best transfer that can sit out next year. I wish we could start keeping some DFW kids home but there is an impressive transfer list (Verbal Commits) looking for new homes. This goes to show that in basketball, you don't need 3-4 years to turn a program around. In about 12 months, this coaching staff will have had about 11 scholarship to fill.
