  1. I was recently studying up on the various FBS programs with an Eagle for their mascot, and it didn't take long for Boston College to get my attention. The other FBS Eagles (Southern Miss, Eastern Michigan, and Georgia Southern) just don't have the same Eagle history. I learned some interesting stuff too. We all know that the North Texas students adopted the Eagle in 1922. As it turns out, Boston College adopted the Eagle in 1920. I find it interesting that we both adopted our mascots around the same time, and we were the only Eagles in major sports until Philadelphia started in 1933. We represent the two oldest Eagle mascots in FBS football and have yet to meet on the field (96 years and counting). I think it would be a great home and home series. We could have a bronze "Nest" trophy created. Maybe the game ball with the final score could be placed in the nest. A series like this could get us a little more national coverage. It would be against an ACC opponent. Both programs currently have opening that would work in 2023 and 2024. And, I think we could beat them by the time we met. Thoughts?

  2. Didn't see this posted yet. Great read for any football fan to get inside the mind of an NFL linebacker as he diagnoses plays pre-snap...even better read as at fellow NT alumn. Proud of the career he's forged and the intellect demonstrated by this piece is a huge reason why he's been so successful.

  3. I guess I’m not read up enough on what liberty puts out there for pseudoscience, however it’s probably not enough for me to lose any sleep over it. Either way, if it’s a winnable game I don’t care if it’s psychology department looks like the beginning of Ghostbusters.

  4. Any suggestions on where they could "adjust their budgets"? It seems they could have had dirt turned on the IPF months ago if that's all there were to it.

  5. At the Plano caravan stop, someone shouted out that they should have left the original (hotter) Apogee turf under the visitors’ sideline. Would have been a good move. A Hayden Fry type move.

  9. Since we're slowly whittling away at the off-season with big dreams and high hopes... how about this: College Gameday at Apogee for FAU at UNT? They usually pick one or two G5 games a year and if both of us are having an excellent season up to this point it could be an interesting G5 game for them to show up at in November. Things working for us: ESPN loves Kiffin Its a major market game ESPN would probably have no problem getting people to show up for festivities even if they aren't UNT/FAU fans Apogee has lots of room for Gameday to setup I think UCF won't have similar performance this season turning over their whole coaching staff. They will no longer be the G5 darling. Things counting against: We may get smoked FAU doesn't travel well UNT has a questionable history filling the stands It may be a Thursday game? (did this get confirmed?) G5 Thoughts? Feelings? Disputes? 🦅🦅🦅

  13. Major in what-ever you want to major in ..... just be aware of what the job opportunities are and the pay is after graduation... Pay is often determined by what you can do that others can't ( or won't ) .. I just have seen people who suddenly realize AFTER graduation that there are few good paying jobs for that major. Most people go to college to qualify them for employment in the future... and not just to take fun or easy classes. Just don't complain about the lack of jobs or the pay then..

  14. Liberty and Houston were the result of cancelling some of the Army games. I like that we’ve got several AAC out of Conference series with SMU, Memphis and UH in the next couple of years.

  16. As for getting out of the Army series.... I see it as a head coach with his eye on the big picture and an AD that supports the head coach. So I'll defer to the two guys running the program. As far as fan experience....I'll take wins. That's what I enjoy. So if the HC thinks getting out of that series improves preparation and keeps the team in a better rythm for the long haul....I support it.

  17. There are so many good things happening at our beloved university, thanks in part to Dr. Smatresk and Wren Baker. We are finally beginning to realize our past and heritage that, IMHO, has been far too long overlooked and/or ignored. Honoring Joe Greene should have been done a long time ago. I made a post a few days ago about the new emblem of Texas that will be displayed along with the SOW on the Apogee 50 yard line and how we have begun to "claim" our piece of Texas heritage. Some of you missed the meaning of that post, but for me, UT, A&M, Texas Tech, Texas State have grasped the meaning of "heritage." All have something in their brand/logo that reflects the state whether it be the Star or the big, bold State on their basketball courts. As the University of North TEXAS, we have every right, and should claim our piece of Texas"heritage" as well. I predict we'll see the same logo on the basketball court as well next season. Be proud of our past, celebrate our heroes and be proud to be "Texian!" Now, if we can just get the statues of Greene, Roy Orbison, and others, it will be complete. GO MEAN GREEN!

  18. Thanks for finding the updated numbers. In my opinion, Lombardi is not going to inherit the OU program. I think Gasso's son will. And yes, $185,000 is very high for a C-USA softball coach. Personally, I believe investing $200,000 in Lombardi would guarantee North Texas becomes a nation power in softball, and in my opinion that is a small price to pay. I'm sure our athletic department could adjust their budgets to free up the funds and make this happen.

  22. I just did an estimate on my front yard under this type of grass, it is not cheap. I am sure UNT gets a discount but I am sure it is a lot. Wonder how the sow on the 50 yd line would look my front yards. Sure the neighbors would like it? Maybe it will be available at the next garage sale?

  23. How exactly did adding Liberty to our schedule make it possible to schedule TTU & Memphis?

  24. I dont think the dorm should have named after Joe Greene because of his race. The new resident hall should be proud to have his name on the building because he is and has been a great asset to the University of North Texas. He truly has been a great ambassador for UNT. For that reason he deserves a building name after him. He was the best choice no matter his race. I see him at football games and at events but I have never gone up and talked to him. I figure it happens all the time to him so I like to give him his space. I am proud he is part of the Mean Green family. UNT owes him this and so much more. Hats off to the people who nominated him and voted for him. GMG

  36. For the benefit of the CUSA image nationally, I hope they can pull themselves out the cellar quickly. As for sustained success, given how long they've hoped for an invite to the MWC, I suspect that if they demonstrate that they're substantially improved across the athletic department by consistently challenging for division titles in football and conference titles in men's hoops, they will be very aggressive trying to find a way to saddle up with a new conference with a geographical footprint that better fits their needs

  38. Not on the UTEP bandwagon, but with a new AD, FB, and BB coaches there seems to be a growing interest, similar to our recent changes. Will be interesting to follow. Interested to see how Chico does (he does seem to put his heart into it)

  39. It was also mentioned at the Rockwall event and Wren's answer was that it would be after the buildup of football and basketball. I think that it's smart to not divide up your revenue until the two biggest revenue producers have what it takes to succeed. I'd think that would be perhaps three years down the road. Let's just hope that Lovelace's donation offer hasn't dried up by then.

  40. Actually, we do know, because it has been specifically said, multiple times by Littrell & Baker. Littrell & his staff did not like the Army matchup because it was hard on his team. It took them out of their rhythm, because each season, for a full week, they had to put the breaks on normal practices & practice for triple option... then you have that blocking scheme & dirty play getting our guys hurt... He wanted out of the series. Wren delivered with a VERY WINNABLE replacement. Some people don't like it because of Liberty's religious alignment. Who cares? It's a football game! That's it. End of story.

  41. Both. Army is a quality football program & a great academic institution. Liberty is neither.

  42. I have to agree with Harry. Hate that the Army series will end. Great tradition Military School, great destination. As for defending the option attack, the first game at Army was fun to watch. Regardless of the interceptions we took advantage of, I think we defended against the option pretty well. Last year, not so much. But it can be done. I certainly wouldn't throw away a series with a National opponent like Army for a Liberty.

  43. It was dumb. I don't hate getting out of the Army serious near as much as I hate traveling to Liberty, which is dumber. So, they just doubled down on the dumbness of this.
    1 point
  44. We've already re-scheduled Liberty to replace the Army games. Nothing to reconsider, unless we're going to start a new home/home, which would not make any sense. If Littrell thinks it's detrimental to the team, I'll defer and agree. Who cares what the fans think, if it's bad for the team. If Littrell would rather play Liberty for the team's sake, let's play Liberty.
