  1. Probably attended one of the CBI games, witnessed the fun everyone was having while rock'n the Super Pit and was like... Rick

  2. Back in the early 80s when Division 1 split into 1-A and 1-AA the top division required a 30,000 seat stadium. Maybe we could have stayed in Division 1-A if we had known how lax they would be in their enforcement. Today, there are 20 universities in the FBS that do not meet that requirement. There will be 21 next year when Liberty enters with a 25,000 seat stadium. Three who are now shy (Wyoming, Buffalo, Louisiana Tech) qualified originally, but subsequent remodeling caused their capacities to fall below 30K. Charlotte, FIU, Old Dominion and Western Kentucky are among the non-qualifiers who are in Conference USA. It doesn't add to the stature of the conference.

  3. Since they have won so many CUSA championships, I can see why the AAC or even the SEC would want them. UTEP will probably be next because they won a national championship in 1966.

  6. I'm sure plenty of our fans and students would agree with you, but here's my thought: Considering how long it takes to build and finance a stadium, you don't plan based upon the crowd you currently have but rather the crowd you hope to have.

  7. Show them the address on the check from Adidas. That should be all the NCAA needs.

  10. I really tire of this lingering battle over who supports the university in the "right" way. Let each of us do our own thing, be appreciative of each other for being here, have fun, and carry on. Things are going pretty good. Let's enjoy the ride a little bit for once. As for the original post, I had no intention of mocking it in my response. Was just being silly -- mostly because I don't golf at all and when I do, I'm about the worst golfer who ever lived.

  12. It will be an improvement over what they have, so good for them. As for tops in facilities, absolutely not. Our stadium is much more impressive looking. The press box thing will look very familiar to high school athletes but that’s not going to be an advantage in recruiting.

  13. That's what you really think? I pay for privilege? All this.....never mind that my mother graduated with two degrees from here, my wife two, me, my brother in law two degrees, my sister in law two degrees, Road shows our own dime to pitch the stadium to other donors, paid catering at my own house to pitch donors the stadium, yeah, I'm only paying to play, for access....there is no love for the university here... Keep it up.

  14. So, if I am understanding the OP’s statement, spending $65 million to get a 21,000 seat stadium makes you “tops in CUSA?” Maybe “best at getting little for a lot of money.”

  15. NCAA. They sponsor many of the big AAU tournaments so you have to sign up on their website. We played in some of those tournaments last year in Virginia. We moved back to Texas and last fall I had to send the NCAA a copy of our mortgage payment to prove that we lived in Texas. They didn't tell us this was needed until the last minute. Today my daughter was playing in another tournament and they could only see the old Virginia address on her NCAA profile even though it was obvious when I pulled it up. While at work I had to download and email them a copy of her report card to prove that she's in school in Texas. They didn't tell us this until two hours before the first game. Why does the NCAA care where you live or what team you play for? I don't know.

  17. Having watched this guy for years I can say I would not vote for him for anything. He is a great talker but gets NOTHING done (except using his influence to get his family out of trouble). I keep trying to find out how much of his money came from out-of-state.

  18. Why, it certainly is not because of this proposed football stadium?

  21. You know how people always complain about the NCAA and how it goes about it's business? Last year we moved from Virginia back to Texas. My daughter is freshman in HIGH SCHOOL and already has had two issues with the NCAA because of the move. Yes, the NCAA is so badly run it affects a FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL. Ugh.

  26. Based on the global warming propaganda show I saw on "Nova" a couple of nights ago, a big part of this stadium renovation should have included raising the campus elevation. They showed an ODU campus sign and lots of shots from Norfolk to illustrate rising sea levels and the coming disaster.

  31. Could you explain this “tops in CUSA” thing? I have been to their facilities. What do you see that makes them the “clear” top in facilities and “academics”. I get the budget part. The other two seem to be a big stretch. Thanks.

  37. SMU - Give us a close L, I think we're severely underestimating Daniel Dykes. Incarnate Word - This one's gonna be a tough L. We'll have no motivation after losing to SMU. @ Arkansas - I think we play it close, but L. @ Liberty - North Texas decides to tank for the top draft pick and secures this with a giant L. LA Tech - Apogee's cell service depletes to such a degree that the headsets on the sideline don't even work. L. @ UTEP - Tank rolls on. L. Southern Miss - The grown ups finally have had enough of the younglings yelling "Motherf----ing Eagles" during the fight song. A fight breaks out by the west gate and rolls onto the field mid game. Team gets distracted, big time L. @ UAB - The team's equipment manager accidentally leaves the uniforms running on high cycle all night before the game. They have to play in essentially undergarments. L. Rice - Houston can't lose at anything right now, so this'll be a defaming L. @ ODU - ODU spends the whole week practicing punts. L. FAU - ya know i like our chances in this one, give us a fat L @ UTSA - AH. Now this one I can see us winning. Went 96 yards in a minute, we can totally pu - wait, we're still employing Troy Reffett? Never mind, give us an L.

  40. Progress is promising and I am not sure how anyone doesn't see that in McCasland first year. The record has obviously improved , but also the competitiveness of the team. I have not seen anyone giving McCasland credit for Benford's recruits. It was stated that his coaching developed these players more than Benford would have done. I don't see many that would disagree on that point. I was concerned about McCasland's finish at ASU and NT. So the tournament victory alleviated some of that concern. I was surprised in the ease that NT won the tournament. NT appears to be returning the key players, something that few conference opponents are doing. I have not seen anyone predict NT will be the class of the conference. However, I expect NT to be substantially improved.

  41. So, would you rather still have Benford? Give credit where credit is due. Granted, GM inherited some players, but at least he could coach the players he had. Benford had no clue.

  42. Yea, I guess if we had won 9 games that still would of been an improvement? Discount his record because the coaches previous record? What a CROCK!

  43. It's a really simple concept. That team is long gone. That team had Lawson playing the majority of the minutes at the 3 and Holston and Temara playing the majority of the minutes at the 4. Three guys who other teams continually dared to beat them, and were unable to due to their severely limited offensive games. Then we saw how much better Mccasland's offense, and team, looks when he actually has guys in there who he recruited, who are not liabilities on offense, can actually burn other teams for leaving them open, and can hit above 60% from the free throw line. Now we get that starting five back, get three more key players who Mccasland signed who were sitting out, plus have four more spots for him to get more guys like Smart, Duffy, Miller, and Gibson rather than guys taking up spots who don't fit. That's why the up-tick next year is expected, and why the concern of the late-season sputter was almost completely erased once we stopped playing the players who were the main cause for it and started beating teams by wider margins than we had all year. I explained this to Andrew too, but the article was not about giving credit to Mccasland for Benford's recruits. It's saying that with the departure of four of the five scholarship Benford players Mccasland inherited, the guys on this roster are either guys he signed or guys he still wants here (Woolridge, Simmons, Draper). It's his roster now. He doesn't have to play with guys he inherited who did not fit his scheme anymore, like he did last year.

  44. And to your point, we helped build an athletic center, a stadium, on and on, helped pay for student athletes to get an education they otherwise couldn't afford......all while an administration scoffed at the fact that it was getting done. I would have preferred that you said "Thank you " but hey, you continue with your tired old narrative.

  45. Love our QB, very much like our WRs, our RBs should be solid and could be special...everywhere else there are some question marks. Billy, I think you answered your question. This year's roster looks like last year's roster, and some of us were a little concerned about last year's roster going into the season. And we were exposed a few times. But they won 9 games. And last year's roster was young. Most of our roster has gained another year of experience, maturity, and FBS-level training. I think we'll win a lot of games in '18.
