  1. I don't think anyone blames the few donors we have who were willing to pony up the money to move us forward. I think the ire is reserved for the charlatan who kept a job for FAR too long on the backs of those same donors. RV took over an athletic department that was operating at a marginal D2 level and brought it up to a marginal D1 level. Nobody is denying that improvements were made, but some of us think the barometer for that success should have been calibrated a hell of a lot better. If I go from coming home drunk and beating my wife to coming home sober and psychologically abusing her I don't deserve a trophy...I deserve to be told "that's an improvement, but you're still a dick."

  2. And to your point, we helped build an athletic center, a stadium, on and on, helped pay for student athletes to get an education they otherwise couldn't afford......all while an administration scoffed at the fact that it was getting done. I would have preferred that you said "Thank you " but hey, you continue with your tired old narrative.

  5. Yep. I can’t recall a player ever saying that an in-home visit with a coach, any coach in any sport, went poorly.

  6. Welcome to "player speak". Just like "coach speak", you learn to not read into these things.

  7. I agree that he's not horrible but sometimes he does have trouble putting sentences together. I'd expect a writer with his experience to make fewer mistakes. Last year the sports writer for the NT Daily was a much better writer with much more interesting stories than Brett has ever done.

  8. Agreed. Again, thank goodness we had you guys and you stuck around. I would hate to think where we would be today. All in good fun!

  9. I may be a clown, but my pockets weren’t fleeced by a hustler that was using him to keep his job. There are lots of names you can use for anyone that falls prey to that kind of deal...I’ll let you decide what the best ones are.

  10. He doesn't know sports. His opinion pieces (when there actually is one) are awful. He's not a horrible writer in the sense he can put words and sentences together but there's nothing insightful in his writing. He gets scooped by people on the board 90% of the time. When I lived in Bozeman the coverage of the FCS Bobcats was light years ahead. Night and day. The only thing I give credit to Vito is he's had to sit through and write about a lot of bad UNT sports and that would wear down anybody. You can only shine up a pig so much. But then again, it would've been nice to have him shine a light on how and why NT sports was so bad. Instead, he wanted to stay in Denton so he just kept writing his bland, beat writer pieces. I don't have anything against the guy, but he's a mediocre writer with no background in sports. He writes about NT like someone would write about gardening. It's time for a fresh voice.

  14. The only reason that I can fathom as to why your post might have gotten a downvote is that the voter considers him to be an outstanding running back candidate. In fact, I would have liked to see him play offense since I don't believe that we have a punishing runner. I also thought that his height wasn't conducive to playing safety but then I realized that we've had a couple of very good short safeties. I feel confident that Siggers will excel wherever they put him. I want him to be happy but more than that I want to see him at a position that is best for the team.

  15. I’m just glad that there are folks out there that recognize the reality of just how bad an AD we had for so long and how he was insulated by donors that were deemed to be big (by our standards). To me, any decent AD would’ve had quadruple the big donors RV got, in part because we would have actually had some success that got attention from donors. We are starting to see that now with Baker, Littrell, and McCasland. RV could only dream of having both revenue sports produce the season we just saw.

  16. Good post. We have at least one major donor, that I know of anyways,....who's been giving since the late 70's, who to his credit put NT first and ignored attempts to be swayed and silenced by THH to look the other way, and instead tried to raise awareness of the goings on that led to the audit results. And of course he was ostracized for it and as a result his support diminished over the years but I expect he will return very soon. That's the kind of donor folks I admire the most. Rick

  20. Thank you...I can understand all of those points. I just was wondering why some posters don't care for him. He seems harmless to me and I feel bad for anyone who had to cover the $hitstorm that was UNT Sports for most of tenure at the DRC.

  23. I mean, does Brett Vito cause that much heartache by being the only beat reporter we have in the entire world? To me, any sins of Vito, that the fans of UNT feel complain about, are all miniscule compared to those that were caused by those who personally supported and funded RV's lazy ass being here for 15 years while he hired the worst three coaches in our athletic history for each revenue sport...Brett Vito didn't hire Todd Dodge, Tony Benford, or Shanice Stephens. Brett Vito didn't cause less than 2% of the UNT Family to not give two $hits about our athletics to the point that virtually nobody joined the MGC.

  24. I think Brett does a credible job for UNT. Do I always agree with him? Nope. But, it is not his job to try to make all us “homers” agree with him nor is it his job to “pump up” UNT. His job is to report. He does a more than decent job of that and we are very fortunate to have a reporter from the DRC assigned to UNT sports. Trust me..I travel a good bit and I read a lot of “local” sports pages and beat writers. When I tell you we could do much much worse...trust me. And, my personal experience and observational sample tells me...agree with him or not...that Brett does a good job.

  25. If we lose to Liberty, in either of the next two seasons, similar to losing to the FCS bodybag game we buy each year, it will look horrendously bad, even if they are somehow better than they have been. Losing to them led Baylor to a 1 win season...but they have Big XII $$$ (for now) to lean on. We don't have the luxury of giving that school a win--its just a much bigger deal for us to lose to them than it was for Baylor. Want to see recruiting go back to the Danny Mac levels again? Lose to this bunch or to one of the FCS spares we are playing in the next couple of seasons and you'll get to see it...

  26. I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- 15-0 or GTFO. Fire everybody, expel all the students, raise the student fee weekly, tear down Denton, replace it with luxury hotels featuring a Chili's Bar and Grill in every lobby, and for crimeny's sake, get better beer flavors!

  31. Brett does a solid job. Fans of every school complain that the team board's scoop the local paper. This is because the writers actually have to check sources & facts before just posting rumors. They often know things in advance but are told to hold them so as to not burn bridges with their sources.

  32. Wow!! And on the hoops board, we have people that say they want him gone and call him stupid names that supposedly sound like Brett Vito. BV does a fine job covering us. Maybe if he had some competition for that job, it might make him even better, but for now, its a non-competitive gig. Getting acclaim for doing the work he did this year hopefully makes him feel better for having to sit thru Todd Dodge and Tony Benford teams, while listening to RV's lazy ass for all of those years.

  36. Chad Morris got an sec job. Littrell will have options. People are looking at him now. liberty is the next BYU. That is going to. E a difficult game. Odu there will be tough. I think we split those. I think we beat uab in bham. I think Fine gets revenge in San Antonio. Utep should be a win but something about that desert and sun bowl. I think we play arky state tough and win. I think we hammer smu and incarnate word. La tech will be tough southern miss will be close. I think we lose a close one to fau. Big wins smu and ark. Upset losses odu and utep. back to boca another loss win the bowl game. GMG

  37. I saw a group was having a big up to do at Apogee stadium. I cannot remember what the meeting is about or who is sponsoring it ,but was shocked who the guest speaker is. Dale Hanson, yes the most important sports reporter in the world. I have three questions about the speaking engagement. First does Hanson know where Denton is? 2 Does he know what Apogee is? 3 Does he know what college team plays in the stadium?
