  2. You're right. No one comes close. Certainly not Louisiana Tech who has played in 3 more sweet sixteens than WKU has NCAA appearances. Plus three national championships.

  4. I was at the tournament and watched parts of probably every game. I sat in every seat. Play never stopped because of a horn or whistle. There are a few people saying that was a concern but best I can tell on twitter none of them were actually there. It's mainly UAB and MTSU fans still mad the tournament isn't in their backyard. The stoppage of play absolutely isn't true. If you were courtside (playing or in either seating section), the only time you could hear anything was the if a band was playing on the other court. It was more like a constant humming. A little odd, but never interrupted play. If you were seating in the permanent seats (the ones used for football) where you could see both courts, it was a little distracting. In those seats you hear both courts the same. Of course, you are also able to watch two games which is kinda cool. My thoughts: Awesome venue overall, mainly because of what's outside. The restaurants, shopping and plaza area are as good as anywhere. Not many tournaments can match it. Several areas can be improved inside. Among them: 1) The temporary seats on the field were rinky dink. Texas UIL brings in way better quality for their tournament. CUSA should invest in better seats. 2) Videoboards - Why weren't they hung? Putting them on the floor was really bad planning. Good news is, it should be an easy fix but honestly not sure what they were thinking. 3) Need to extend the current a little more (both height and width. I think that would all but eliminate the band overflow noise). 4) Consolidate ticket price points to two. A lot of people bought cheapest tickets which didn't allow them on the floor where there were plenty of seats. There was three price points. Floor chair back, floor bleacher and upper seats. Allow one ticket for floor bleacher or upper chairback. I was skeptical going in (although excited to have it local for UNT). But my family thoroughly enjoyed it as did our friends. With a little tweaking it could be a very special event. Lastly, the West teams need to be better!!!! La Tech, UTSA, UTEP, Rice and UNT being good would be huge. Those teams not making the tourney or getting beat 1st day is going to make it hard to get great crowds.

  5. I sat on the bleacher side and enjoyed the game. A friend of mine sat in the $15 seats on the end and said he could not hear the crowd, heard whistles from the other court and had trouble seeing the game. He suggested that the courts be turned and the permanent seats be used as premium seating with temporary seats on the other side. I don't know if this would work but the quality of seating and access to the restrooms and the concessions would improve.

  14. I talked with a few administrative people from ODU at the basketball tournament regarding CUSA. They are not happy with the conference as it now, and would like to move to AAC. I told them that the AAC wasn't hiring, and did they have a plan "B". My takeaway was that they are doing their do diligence , there is a more involved that just realigning CUSA and the Belt, and than a number of conferences would be involved in any changes. Basically they want to better themselves, which I took as moving away from CUSA.

  17. I think this is a fair suggestion. Having to go so far and up a million stairs to use the bathroom was annoying. Of course, I was having to go regularly after having a few beers. And I wasn't going to make that trip without picking up another beer. It's a vicious cycle, LOL.

  18. The court set up in Hot Springs was great back in the Belt days.

  19. The set up was OK except for the scoreboards, which were high school. Great location, good parking, good dinning , and nearby hotels. My disappointment was lack of decent coverage from the DMN. It was as if the tournament didn't exist.

  21. Only if they get up for it. That's always the thing with teams that just miss the NCAA's....do they get excited for the NIT? Some do, many don't.

  22. Most younger folks don't remember it but TCU was once just horrible in athletics - especially football. Dennis Franchione got it turned around before leaving for Alabama and Gary Patterson has kept it going since then. What some of the old time administrators at TCU will tell you is that once they started winning in football the number of kids applying to go to school at TCU went up and the ACT or SAT scores of the applicants went up. People who do not like athletics will tell you that this was just a coincidence but the people who were at TCU at that time strongly disagree. They will tell you that the positive publicity that they got from athletics had a very positive result for the school that continues to this day. The author of this article was probably in diapers when this occurred and has no idea about this type of thing at TCU - or anywhere else for that matter. Too bad..........

  23. People like the author hate athletics at colleges. They think that it is just awful for sports to even exist on campus anywhere. This idiot cannot handle that the fee passed here. He HATES the fact that nobody will ever pay one cent to go watch a journalism class in a writing contest. Poor fellow, he should really just move away from here. Texans like sports, especially football, so it’s not like he’s going to get one ounce of change on this. He would have loved Old Denton...

  25. The Navy Academy also services future Marines. Also, I was in the Navy and deployed 3 times during the 00's. I can assure you that my time was not comfortable, nor was it in a protected vessel of any sort. There are many jobs in the Navy where boots hit sand and mine were in that sand outside the comfort of large bases without running water, heated food, or technology to speak of (except sat phone) the entirety of all deployments for 8 months x 3. So not too sure what it is you're trying to say.

  26. Meh. In the last decade they are 35-86 (and the decade before that isn't much better). Tough for me to say them going anywhere would be a step back. Army's history is there. But what's funny about their history is that at the height of the most significant war in World history they were mounting 3 "national championships" in consecutive order. I find that a little puzzling and ironic.

  27. Did I miss it? Last night channel 11 covered the Southland, Sun Belt, Big Twelve, TCU, AAC and others with video highlights but I did not see or hear the sports announcer mention the CUSA Tournament even though it took place right under his nose, right here in Frisco Texas for the last four days. Did anyone catch any mention of the CUSA Championship Game on the local stations?

  29. Because they GET ON WITH IT! The pitcher and batter act as if they have a shot clock on them, and they don't fart around in the batters box. No scratching and spitting. Someone (I can't remember who) recently said that there was actually only 18 minutes of action in a typical baseball game. From my perspective i think they are being generous. Baseball.....slow, slow, slow. Women's softball.......(by comparison) fast, fast, fast.

  31. Ah dang, I really wish I still had some contacts up in Melissa, but I don't besides maybe a couple teachers outside of the athletics realm. Melissa is where I went to high school. His younger brother Brendon is the QB at Melissa and already has an offer from SMU. I think it would help a lot if we offered Brendon such that it's a little more enticing for Kennedy to pick UNT.

  38. Thanks Silver! I'm too busy driving back and forth to the CUSA tournament to focus on spring football, and your analysis is very nice. Appreciate it mucho! Cannot believe the women got their first ever win over LA Tech and it was in the CUSA Tournament! Now, we need to get our first win over WKY ever in today at 8PM in the semi-finals. Women are an 11 seed...really great they are in the semis! Top 4 CUSA team!!!!!

  39. It might mess with the sound, but i would like to see the courts turned sideways. Have about three to four rows of temporary bleachers leading down to the court from the permanent seating, then temporary seating on the other side of the court. Have TV cameras on the temporary side looking toward the permanent seating.

  41. So I'm told. The only thing slower is golf. I'm a boomer and I have an above average attention span. But most of the conversation going on is about stats. I never understood what they (the statistics geeks) were talking about. AND statistic geeks (like most men) are terrible teachers. So, it was even more boring for me. I'm going to try and attend the North Texas day Rangers game.....for the first time. But mainly to support the alumni association........and get a real cool cap.

  42. 6'3" combo guard from Trinity Valley Community College. Originally signed with Baylor out of Rockdale (Texas) in 2015 when Mccasland was an assistant. Redshirted at Baylor, then played sparingly last year. This season as a redshirt sophomore he averaged 19.8/5.9/6.5, with shooting splits of 48.9%/36.5%/83.8% while making 1.8/4.9 threes per game. Ranked number one on the JUCO recruiting top 100, and holds offers from Georgetown, Cincinnati, Memphis, Oregon, and NC State among others. https://247sports.com/player/wendell-mitchell-57928

  44. W.K. and Marshall had more fans than North Texas, which is embarrassing but unfortunately to be expected. Regarding noise from an adjoining courts, I never heard a sound. Of course I am 75 years old and half deaf.My only complaint about the venue is that it was a real hike to the head.
