  1. In today's DMN, notes about two former players. Keith Frazier officially off UTEP team, which I thought happened a lot earlier. A great talent because of injury and maybe attitude just never lived up to this high school acclaim. More amazing, NT ex Loryn Goodwin was named first team all conference in the B12 and newcomer of the year. Her history includes: was a Aston recruit that Petersen retained for her freshman year were she was selected Sun Belt conference freshman of year. She then transferred to Butler and set out a year. She led Butler in scoring at 15.6 in her one year playing there. Then she transferred to UTSA were she was all conference and newcomer of the year in CUSA. Then she transfers to her fourth school, Oklahoma State. At OSU, she averaged 21.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 5.2 assists and also managed 101 steals thus far. No doubt, Loryn is a great basketball player, but I think she also illustrates a lot that is wrong with college basketball. I have no idea how she managed to play at 4 different schools only setting out one year.

  4. It's interesting to see Harry Minium called a "click baiter", "troll", and "obscure sports writer." He is 65 years old and has been with the Pilot since graduation from ODU. I have known him since our junior high school days. He is a fine writer and has been quoted here numerous times as he had information that none of the other beat writers uncovered. Sure ODU just started football but even before they did, had one of the top athletic budgets in CUSA. They easily have more national championships than any other CUSA school. Other than their three WBB championships, the others are in minor sports but national championships none the less. I second Arkstate Fan's theory. ODU is using CUSA as a stepping stone and wants to be elsewhere. They want to be in the AAC but barring that, will move to form a new conference...wait and see.

  5. I don't buy into the neat clean realignment stuff. It just doesn't happen. What happens is a critical mass of schools get pissed off and make something happen on their own and leave it to everyone else to make lemonade of what happens. One might dismiss Harry Minimum as a clickbait troll but I think one might do well to recall that he was also out front telling that the CUSA TV contract had actually been cut when the teams defected to BE/AAC and was going to fall more. He had to get that information somewhere and ODU's administration was almost certainly the source. When Slive said he wanted to go to 16 and media close to Slive said the league was looking to add two in the West, it was Harry Minimum who reported that ODU and MTSU wanted an east/west add with JMU added east. My guess is Wood Selig wants to lead a breakaway and is willing to speak of it. Before WKU committed to FBS, I overhead him talking to the UALR AD extolling the virtues of the hoops schools breaking from Sun Belt. So it's in his nature to want to lead these sorts of things. The logical conclusion is he is tossing this story to Minimum to try to stir up discontent and clear obstacles to getting an eastern league.

  6. Not to throw Brelans name out there but Brelan. You can be productive on offense and make a huge difference in the return game. Is it a risk? Sure. Then again, isn't every play a risk?

  8. My recall is the school funds the hats. And the Rangers discount a ticket to get the hat. We are usually in the top 2 or 3 schools in numbers that show up for this game each year, so I don't think the Rangers would choose to turn away business in the kind of season they are likely to have this year. Predicting we will have a huge UNT Dallas promotion at DBU, a TCOM/UNTHSC promotion at a Fort Worth Cats game and a UNT Frisco promotion at a Roughriders game. For us UNT Denton fans, let's go see a softball game. GMG

  10. If AAC is where you want to go you gotta do something about SMU. I remember when the goal was to join Houston and SMU in CUSA but it took them leaving to get a spot. You better root for regionalism because unless the economics drive AAC schools to seek it this starts sounding like the story of NMSU wanting to join the WAC.

  13. I expected all of this from you sir. Answer is still yes. Keep beating the drum for the SBC. Y'all are better than your reputation. I'd still rather be associated with the AAC once SMU leaves, or with the new "big12 -OU/OSU/UT" if we can keep football momentum going & get b-ball up on MT's level.

  21. Eight year ESPN deal. Going to move some of the content off ESPN3 onto ESPN+ Scuttlebutt says the six schools that don't have the capability produce content up to ESPN standards will have to add that capability because ESPN is wanting more content across more sports.

  23. I am baffled at how UNT seemed to be growing fast (very fast) in the early 2000's and since then has been stuck at the same capacity. Is this the size UNT wants to be? Is this the high bar for all time? Other schools in the area like UT Dallas and UT Arlington have been exploding in students since then.

  29. Bottom line with our fans, we wanted out and away from the Sunbelt. We don't want to merge with them and most of us just don't pay attention to the belt anymore. NT is doing a damn good job moving ahead and should not be looking to relive the past. Schools in the end need to do what's best for them, not a conference. There's no chance our current administration is going to try and be a part of the Sunbelt. This is just off season nonsense talk because everyone's bored. The next thread will be uniforms...

  30. Doesn't worry me a ton, I'd be good with Murray, Mose, Mose/Barr, Preston, Parish/Anthony. If they think moving Preston inside helps with run game I'm down to let a young guy go at RT. If we're running the ball well, then OL pass sets aren't as big of an issue as if we aren't running ball well and all we can do is pass.

  37. I would be incredibly dejected if this ever happened. All of the recent improvements... spankin-new stadium, IPF, Million-dollar coach, finally getting serious, and we just sit back and let that happen? I highly doubt Wren Baker would allow that to happen either. I really hope he's gunning for a spot in the AAC after the Big12 implodes and SMU winds up jumping with those schools to form a new conference... or possibly joining THAT conference. ...Not to mention, Rice would likely drop every single sport rather than be associated in any way with Troy's academics (and likely several of the others you have listed in that division).

  38. Because of who they are, what they teach, and what they stand for, I would rather daily don burnt orange and blue and go marching on the steps of the NCAA for the full inclusion of UTSA in the SEC and official recognition of a 1982 national championship for SMU than I would acknowledge Liberty as a legitimate football program. I found it interesting that there are some on this board who feel the exact opposite about the school, but that's a topic for the Eagle's Nest of yore when things used to get really ugly and personal. I also disagree with some who think that no matter what the AD does, it is an act of defecating floral scented nuggets of pure gold for the embetterment of us all and the glory of UNT. I don't like the Liberty series. At all. However, when I've watched how the last three games with Army have gone down, and I see the benefits of future schedules in years to come as a result of getting out of the Army series, I realize that sometimes a department has to take its lumps and accept sacrifice for the overall benefit and long-term growth of the program. I believe the team will take a step back in record in 2018, and will be out of divisional contention at least by late October. I believe the defense will still suck. I believe Mason Fine and his corps of receivers will put up video game numbers. I believe the selection of beer flavors in Apogee will be mediocre at best. I believe that my tickets will get inappropriately scanned by overzealous yellow jackets at every game, leaving me to have humorous conversations about it with the gray jackets at the club entrance. I believe that no matter what, people will bitch about the bands, their uniforms, and the choice of team uniforms. I believe in the small of a woman's back...the hangin' curveball, high fiber, good scotch...that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent crap...I believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe that there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve, and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days. And none of that -- not one iota of it, is going to cause my blood pressure to rise or make me indulge the constant, never give up, Sisyphean efforts of those who believe that they must constantly verbally lambast the department, the coaches, the players, other fans, and most of all, the students because gosh darn it, they want it THEIR way -- they want UNT to be Alabama...today...without having to make any particular contribution or effort of their own except behind the wizard's curtain of a semi-anonymous keyboard on a message board that a select few who ain't goin' anywhere nohow read.

  39. But the decision IS Liberty. BECAUSE THAT'S WHO IS ON THE DAMN SCHEDULE. And do we know, without a single doubt, that Liberty was (AT THE TIME OF SCHEDULING) the ONLY available opponent to fill that slot? AND, to add, even IF it was why tf was it a necessity to go home and home with a CURRENT FCS program. We've went over this and you'll apparently defend this BS forever and always, but there is no denying it was a bad decision. If Liberty was the only viable option (which I don't believe), then you keep Army on the books until something worthwhile comes available. And you never go home and home in this scenario. The chips were stacked in our favor and we go home and home with a FCS East coast program that was THIRSTY for opponents to qualify as an FBS program. And there we went, bending over and grabbing our ankles. And this thread is about scheduling. So it's far from a hijack.

  40. Yeah Vito did a good job explaining it. ODU was one that got $1.3 million. They are playing the home opener for Liberty's first ever FBS season. One more time for the blind and deaf. The decision wasn't on Liberty. The decision was to get out of the Army games. WB and SL didn't think playing Army 6 more times was in the program's best interest. For those of you that don't agree, fine. But that's obviously how our Coach and AD felt. So they wanted out of Army series. There was only ONE (I repeat ONE) school in the country that had those dates available. It was Liberty because they were new to FBS and had to schedule. But Liberty knew they were the only school that could take the games. They asked for a home and home to do the deal. UNT was going to have a hard time filling the early part of the Army series they gave up for the same reasons no other schools were available to take the Army series. So they did the deal. And used the new dates to get Houston, CAL and I think a MWC school (but I can't remember which one). It's not like our admins did a deal with Liberty free and clear because they found them to be a compelling match-up. At the same time, they pushed Wisconsin back several years. They did it to fix the damn schedule. And get to the model WB tweeted last week. Maybe I'm getting forgetful but I swear this board didn't used to beat a dead horse like this issue. It's hijacked dozens of threads.
