  1. Just finished the regular season 9-3 and are CUSA West champs. I just wanted to reiterate that, because it's fun to say.

  2. Great News from Houston this morning. The injured RB was released from the hospital this morning. I have a friend who's son plays at Rice. This information was given to the Rice team this morning.

  3. I can see it now... P5 AD sits down at his desk to look over potential hires... "Let's see, what are my options? I could hire a coach who has already won at the P5 level, like UCLA did with Chip Kelly. Nah, too sane and the millionaire boosters would have too easy a time swallowing it. I could money whip a coach who is currently at a lesser P5 school. Nah, too cliche. There is always the option of targeting G5 coach with multiple years of winning and a track record of building programs. Nah, too easy. Then what ever should I do? Hmmmm.... I've got it! I'll hire a guy with exactly two years of head coaching experience and one 9 win season in CUSA!!!! Now why didn't I think of that first?!"

  4. I don't know about you guys, but I'm enjoying one of the best north Texas football seasons that I can remember! Why are we constantly beating ourselves up with the possibility of losing our coach, when we should just be enjoying the moment and everything that's going along with it! We have to stop talking about losing Seth! If just for now. Can we not just enjoy the moment, just for once?! I do understand that it is a concern. But let's live in the now. Not in the future, what might happen, world.

  7. Since Seth Littrell got hired, fans on the board have talked about him leaving as soon as he gets the chance. As we have won this year, that talk has heated up as people seem convinced P5 teams are going to be knocking on his door en masse. We are obviously looking at things from a paranoid North Texas fan point of view, and not a P5 fan/donor point of view, where there is much more skepticism and pickiness when it comes to filling a football HC vacancy. I did some research on the G5 coaches who got hired by P5 schools last offseason. Here are all 5 of them, and their resumes as head coaches before they got the P5 HC job they currently hold: Matt Rhule - Led Temple to 3 straight bowl eligible seasons, 2 straight AAC title game appearances, and a 2016 AAC championship. Hired by Baylor. PJ Fleck - Led WMU to 3 straight 8-win seasons including a 13-1 conference champion in 2016. Hired by Minnesota. Willie Taggart - Took WKU from 0-12 in 2009 before he was hired to back to back winning seasons in 2011 and 2012, took USF from 3-9 in 2012 before he was hired to 8 wins in 2015 and 11 wins in 2016. Hired by Oregon. Jeff Brohm - 31-10 with 3 straight 8+ win seasons and back to back CUSA titles. Hired by Purdue. Tom Herman -22-4 with wins over #3 Oklahoma, #3 Louisville, #9 Florida State, and a conference championship. Beat 6 ranked teams in two seasons. Hired by Texas. All of these guys except Taggart won a conference championship, but Taggart won at two FBS stops taking over for fired HCs and he showed a lot of prowess on the recruiting trail. All of these guys had 11 win seasons except Rhule, who had back to back 10 win seasons including a CUSA championship. 3 of these guys (Taggart, Fleck, and Herman) were making national headlines with their successes on the recruiting trail. So that's what P5 schools are looking for. Did the coach show excellence on the recruiting trail? Did the coach win and sustain it? Did the coach win the conference, and if not were they in contention annually? I still maintain that Littrell is another double-digit win season and CUSA championship away from a P5 school being convinced on him. What happens the rest of the year is big. We win out and he expedites that process, or at least would need less out of 2018 than he would if we didn't win out. So again, we're talking about likely a CUSA championship or at least two double-digit win seasons from being hired away. I think we'd all be happy with our program being in that state.

  8. It was a great day for a Mean Green Nation get together. Holy smokes SilverEagle and I found IslandEagle at the tailgate party. Been a long time. Good seeing you again my friend. Silver, UNTFan23, Emmitt and me. All we want for Christmas is a C-USA Championship. E and I with the great Adrian Awasome. Hunter Green & I. Rick

  9. Doing so while carrying themselves with class and faithfully serving the community (thanks BTG for the incredible access to what would otherwise go unnoticed by those outside the program). I was a student during the Sun Belt championship seasons and the consistent success helped develop a life-long connection between many of us of that era and our University. It's exciting to think that a new group of students may be experiencing the same right now.

  10. I live in Houston, but was in N. Texas for Thanksgiving. I was back in H-Town yesterday and watched game on ESPN 3. One of the announcers on TV broadcast was former NFL player and had nothing to say but good things about UNT players and UNT as a program. Announcer did try to say positive things about Rice and there coach who is probably going to be fired. However, Rice program is at low point. UNT's program has been were Rice is for many years. UNT Nation owes Seth and entire coaching staff many thanks for there hard work turning UNT program around. If we lose coach Littrell the UNT program is light years ahead of where it was when coach Littrell was hired at UNT. The Wren's job is to fine another great coach to take Littrell's place. I never thought I'd see the day, or at least this soon that UNT football would be 9-3 with realistic opportunity to go 11-3 in a season. This can't do anything but help UNT recruiting and other athletic facilities upgrade/improvements. Go Mean Green!!!

  11. i was thinking after the rice what a boring win. Think about that a UNT fan said a win was boring. How times have changed and hope they continue in the future.

  12. What a steal he has been. I expect plenty more performances like this, because I've seen him do it since he was a freshman in high school. By the way, saw his brother play last night. He is a junior and is at about 800 yards rushing at about 8 yards/carry. Played defensive back on varsity as an underclassman. Would like to see him in green as well.

  20. Unlikely in recent times. Of 12 games this year, we played 8 bowl eligible teams and went 5-3 against them. In 2013 we went 3-3 agains bowl eligible teams and in 2003 we went 1-3 against them. Looking back to 2003, it's no wonder we did so well as we played a lot of terrible teams. In 2002 we went 2-4 against. In short, yes, this is another reason to celebrate this season. We didn't just win, we beat decent teams.

  21. True, but you have to admit that most of the time the Independence bowl has more reputable opponents than the HOD.
    4 points
  22. So just cause some fans won't travel outside of Dallas, that means we are consistently stuck in HOD? There's got to be a point where quality bowl wins is more important than attendance.

  23. They have 5 to 8 scholly left. In about a week there could be more than 20 FBS openings with less than 3 weeks until early signing day. Alot of dominoes to fall. Be patient. Trust the staff. They are in on some BIG names... Staff is not going to just throw a bunch of offers to 2 stars guys just to fell spots for 247 rankings (Texas State) thinking bigger picture...they have a HUGE OV slate week after conference championship game.

  26. With their bowl qualifying win tonight I have a feeling our bowl game has just been set: North Texas vs Texas Tech Dec 26 HOD Cotton Bowl Now I would love Independence Bowl and wouldn’t mond New Mexico Bowl but a Mean Green Red Raider showdown would sell tickets and provide some offensive fireworks. Let it all play out. Beat Rice GMG

  27. I don't think it is historical mindset, I think it is watching our defense play opponents whose offenses are much less potent than Tech and have big numbers put up against them. This would be a track meet for sure, but I think Tech's D gets one or two more stops than our defense. If our defense can slow down FAU in the championship game, then I would have a much different opinion.

  28. Hopefully not New Mexico or Bahamas. Neither does any good for recruiting. Beating Tech in Dallas would do wonders trying to recruit kids throughout the region if we can pull off the win. If we lose, I do not think it hurts us because the kids who were not committed see it as what they expected anyway.

  29. ......especially if some of the commits look like this...... Don't feed them for a couple of days before each game.

  32. Thank you for this post. I gave you an upvote... If I could, I would give you more to allow you to feel the very feels I feel after reading this post. 1. I especially like it because it reinforces my pre-biased suppositions and gives a greater sense of validation to my unshakable views. 2. It needs to be equally stated that should you have presented evidence to the contrary, which would be instantly viewed as a threat and a challenge to my already set beliefs, I would have down voted you with a high degree of pleasure and satisfaction. These 2 points help my increasing need to be in control of my social world and how it suits me. Thank you for making me feel better about my life today.

  36. I don't think we have to worry about that scenario. KK is keeping his job after beating UT. They'll bring him back next year. Now, it would make SL a far bigger blip on the national radar.

  40. It is absolutely satisfying that there will be no "pretend" co-champions. We won it outright, as well as head-to-head against those teams one or more games behind us in the division.
