  2. Being that I recently retired from the Army, I can say some things that are possibilities. When I was a Drill Sergeant at Fort Sill, they made us bring our Soldiers who were in the middle of Basic Training to any games that Army played in the DFW area. Fort Sill trains thousands of Soldiers each year. When they are offered the chance to go to the football game, they all go with the exception of a few that get in trouble. They go because it is a break from the grind of basic training and they know the Drill Sergeants are not going to yell at them at the game because of the public venue. As a matter of fact, they are kind of "voluntold" to go. Even kids who do not like football go because they get a chance to eat food other than MREs and food they serve in the dining facility or mess hall for my older veterans. I also did recruiting in Fort Worth, which falls under The United States Army Recruiting Battalion-Dallas. Dallas Recruiting Battalion works hard to bring as many of their recruits who have not shipped to basic training to the game. Plus they set up tons of booths and work to get the Golden Knights Parachute Team to jump the game ball in to games. That's all designed to increase recruiting numbers. They see it as a chance to recruit. Although, I served 23 years in the Army, I am not a West Point guy. I am UNT through and through so I will be going for the Mean Green. I said all that to say how Army could bring a larger than expected crowd. Oh, almost forgot, I was stationed at Fort Hood my last few years and they will give tickets to the game away there through the MWR. Lot's of Soldiers may come just for a reason to come to Dallas instead of Austin for the weekend. Just some thoughts. Not saying all that will happen, but that's what is usually involved.

  4. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2017/10/30/ncaa-1-130-re-rank-notre-dame-ohio-state-jump-into-top-five/811765001/ UNT is ranked 82nd and moved 0 spots north or south after defeating #100 Old Dominion who fell 6 spots. So Miss gained 3 spots to move to #56 after falling to #85 UAB who gained 10 spots. UT-Sorta Almost gained 4 spots to number 64. This weeks opponent, Louisiana Tech gained 2 spots to move to #72 after their win over #121 Rice. Other Notables: 35 SMU 37 Iowa 58 FIU 59 Marshall 63 Army 67 FAU 130 UTEP STILL NO LOVE FOR UNT, EVEN OVER TEAMS WE HAVE ALREADY BEAT. So Miss still gains spots after losing. Lets just crown them the division with their 2 losses.... Ridiculous.... Or even UTSA....

  8. If we played The University of the Universe, and they were undefeated, and we beat them by 50 points, and God almighty was the quarterback, we’d move up like 4 spots somewhere in the high 80s-low 90s, and still be behind UTSA.

  14. Yeah, but they help the recruiting class rank high and that is what really matters. Right?

  15. Quit thinking about Championship games, and who we’ll play in a bowl. Please, we must stay focused on La Tech. We have to beat Tech.

  16. Yeah, but who have they beaten? Alabama would kill them.

  18. For those of you not making the trek to Ruston, I'd like to offer up an alternate solution: NORTH TEXAS VS. LOUISIANA TECH WATCHING PARTY Fuzzy's Taco Shop - 790 W. Exchange Pkwy - Allen, TX 75013 We'll stream the game onto the big screen behind the bar. Game audio will be broadcast throughout the entire restaurant. Pick up free UNT schwag like sunglasses, football stress relievers, car emblems, sports bottles, etc. Enter the drawing for UNT beer glasses, t-shirts, chrome car emblems, pennants, etc. Kickoff is at 2:30 pm, 11/4. I hope to see you there! #HIT6

  19. "The Team" must stay focused on La Tech. "We" are a fan board. I feel like I can look ahead without consequence. It even makes it a little fun to discuss potential championship games and bowls. I do, however, expect The Team to stay focused on 1 opponent at a time. They shouldn't be thinking about any team or scenario but La Tech.

  20. Terrible story, sorry to hear about this kid who got beat up on... but am i the only one who is interested in what a racial epitaph sounds like? 'Here lays John Williams, this man was an African American.'

  21. I would totally dig that. Man, just looked at the schedule. The only possible bowl game that I could possibly make this year would be the Frisco bowl. I'm gonna be out in Oregon engaging in 100% state sanctioned legal activities all Christmas week. Didn't consider bowl season when I booked that trip. Well, I totally considered bowl season if I'm being completely honest.

  22. Ding ding ding. It is all going to be about the the 3rd-and-long pass protection this week. LaTech is right there with us when it comes to consistent long passing plays. We exceed them in most every other way, but have been known to let those conversions slide. The only thing that gives me comfort is that we’re in the same realm in most defensive categories. 23. I actually can't figure this team out. I don't think we know which team is going to play week to week. I think the win or loss this Saturday is up to which team shows up. The UNT vs USM or UNT vs FAU. No clue.

  24. You're looking forward to the game this Saturday, huh?

  26. This whole thread just hit a nerve. Actually those two kickoff returns by ODU hit a nerve too. And we had the right guy for the job. At UNT. Damnit, what the f... happened? Tommy Perry

  27. So you have a problem with North Texas actually selling out a stadium? I'd rather us sell out Frisco than halfway fill up the Cotton Bowl. Frisco would be really fun. I've watched the national championships there and it's awesome. Way better time than going to Fair Park. I'll never complain about getting to a bowl game though. Beggers can't be choosers.

  29. With the season past the half way mark, I'm thinking he should stay away from football this season so he can get complete well. Even if he doesn't get another medical redshirt.

  30. I think a focused Mean Green matches up very well against FAU. I'm sure they players would LOVE to have another shot at those dudes. If NT can't beat LATech though, we're going to need help getting there, and we're certainly not going to be hosting.

  32. Honest question, why are we in love with playing in Dallas? It was really cool in 2013 because I don't believe North Texas had ever played in that historic venue. Last year was ok, becuase at 5-7 you take what you can get. But why wish to go there again this year? I would much rathe have the destination of New Orleans or a makeable trip to Tucson or New Mexico. Bowl games should be like a mini-vacation and a reward for players...playing in a place where you can Uber to is neither

  33. This is a pretty big game for this program. Big implications if North Texas wants to take the next step and take over for the West division in the conference game. LA Tech is 4-4 (2-2) right now with conference wins over Rice and WKU. They lost to Southern Miss and UAB. We’re coming off a 45-38 win over ODU that wasn’t nearly as close as the score implied. (- 2 KOR = 45-24) I would be willing to bet big money that we don’t allow a KOR for a TD this game. UNT had a bad game against FAU, but it looks like the defense was able to recover and show great improvement (allowed just over 1/3 of what was allowed in FAU). Give me UNT winning this one 45-34.

  34. THE DEFENSE GAVE UP TWO TOUCHDOWNS LAST NIGHT WE ARE AWFUL DELETE THE PROGRAM FIRE EVERY COACH wait we matched last year's win total in october and we still get rice and utep? oh and we're - 19th nationally in total yards (3,875) - 16th nationally in yards per game (484) - 21st nationally in points per game (37.4) oh wait the defense's third down efficiency and YPP numbers have progressively gotten better as the season has gone on oh wait the defense has given up 7 fourth quarter points TOTAL in 3 of its 4 conference wins what a horrible team. fire littrell fire reffett wreck apogee delete the university abandon denton season over

  35. Side note, it is generally not a good sign when your safety leads the team in tackles but maybe that is different for the new fashioned 3-3-5 scheme.

  37. I wouldn't be to hard on them. Everybody gets bad apples. We've had a serial rapist, thieves, plenty of DWIs, fighters, ect over the years. I still don't care for their school and awful fans but I'll give them a pass on this nonsense.

  42. The music school reference spans many stints of different athletic directors, so to say he's at fault for the reference is misguided for your rage over someone who is no longer with the department. Let the past go, it can only serve as an anchor to slow down the progress of trying to move forward.

  43. Ideally we would also be going for our first undefeated season at home since... has this happened before?

  44. Don't waste your time writing notes to the league office...they don't look at them. The coaches submit plays that need to be looked at. Every game is also reviewed by 1-2 people and they take and submit notes on the quality of calls. They need to institute replay on all personal fouls to determine if a player flopped causing the flag to be thrown. We've added that in college basketball to where the kid that flops gets a technical foul for unsporting behavior.

  45. I am an alum who graduated in 1970. Like a number of others here I have had the joys along with the slings and arrows of 50 plus years of UNT/NTSU football. You may not be aware but a lot of alums pushed seat sales so we could get enough people in the stands so we could qualify to get back to D1. That is one of many things done historically for this program which has brought us to the point of where we are today. We are still around, our backs hurt, our knees hurt and it is unfortunate that some of us make you sick and tired. We have given a lifetime of interest and effort to this program. When you are 70 and come back to this forum and have someone, who has a lack of maturity, posting inappropriate comments you will understand why I don't give a rats ass about you being sick and tired. This blog should be about football which is in fact, entertainment. Send your sick and tired comments to butthurt.com.
