  1. The inaugural gomeangreen.com Recruiter of the year award goes to Nate Brown! For his efforts in landing Cade Pearson, Makyle Sanders and Cameron Johnson. Also his activity on social media are the reasons we decided on Nate. He is a young coach with a bright future!

  3. The Dickey Roll comes with restaurant crayons regardless of the customer's age...because there is never a bad time to draw. If you order as part of a combo, it comes with a Diet Coke. Beware: some have complained that the Dickey Roll has given them the runs.

  5. And Tony Benford goes out on the quintesential Benford game: no defense played, and throwing away a half time lead and finding a way to lose after leading with less than a minute to go.

  7. This is the only source for anything North Texas. We search this forum for any tiny piece of positive information that will tell us the "Grand Pupas" of North Texas University and North Texas Athletics finally get it. We're headed in the right direction....we're winning in the major sports....look at the fans filling the stands to watch winning teams in all sports. Sadly, I saw a glimpse of it in the mid to late 1960's, an occasional ripple in the 1970's, and the bowl years. I lost interest in the 1980's when we dropped down to 1AA. That move alone is what crushed North Texas Athletics. No vision to meet the stadium requirements and remain 1A. Some fun in New Orleans and some good football....for the Sun Belt. As we all get up there in years, we begin to realize that some of us may never see North Texas successfully compete in football or basketball on a regular basis. My days of traveling to Denton for football games are becoming less frequent. At some point, no one will notice old DeepGreen not posting. I'll go the way of good fans like MG61 and others. For now, (in my very best Godfather voice), "I want you to listen to me very carefully, "GO MEAN GREEN"!

  8. So both times Chico was asked to take over the football program, he should of told the athletic department to shove it and this is your s show to fix? Some things are more valuable than money, head coaching experience for an assistant is one of the them. The first go around he put himself as a legitimate contender for the job with the work he did as interm HC. You think that would of happened if he would of told them to "deal with it"? These asst coaches should of been chomping at the bit for their opportunity to show what they could do as a head coach.

  9. That's your sense of entitlement speaking. ive been in sinking ship situations, and been asked to work with others to make things right while personnel gets adjusted. Maybe I'm too nice, but I am inclined to do it without asking about compensation. I figure it will work itself out one way or another. And you know what? It usually does.

  15. No value judgement here either, but it appears that you are confusing a die hard fan with a never say die fan. As the words mean, a die hard fan can lose interest in the what ever they support, it just takes more to kill the desire to support. A never say die fan's support survives all disappointments. Thanks to all the latter, at North Texas we need all we can get.

  16. Sadly, this is typical of GMG.com. A thread highlighting the list of things already accomplished by the new AD administration and some insight in to future plans, and we argue over what hasn't been done. Smh

  20. Just my personal experience, in my field of course, watching people demonstrate your expectations vs. my approach as stated above: I end up with no salary increase, but I end up getting a lot more work (and much more $$$) down the road. You end up getting your salary increase, and a lot less work down the road. Your supervisors have a big fish to fry, bigger than any single employee, and they generally want to work with people who make their job easier. And they talk to each other about you. I've made my point. Truth is, no one knows what our assistants would do. I suppose it is not out of the question that The Wren sat down with them and explored his options.

  25. Monday morning qb here, so if we had fired benford at mid season or 3/4 of the season would it have made any difference, I don't think the season would have changed. An assistant could have taken over. So will we see an announcement tomorrow from the AD? If not he can go too. Tried of the losing attitude we have. I am starting to think the sleeping giant is in a coma.

In case you did not know..."it is generally considered bad form to out folks". You know, because no one knows who we are. But, here we are. You and me in the "bad form" group. ?? ... AND .... I get what I earn with my level of support for OSU. And, that is fine with me. I should also remind you that I am not a t-shirt fan of OSU. I actually graduated from OSU as well. You know, not like some "cough cough" t-shirt TCU fan.

  28. In what could be the final game on the North Texas sideline for head coach Tony Benford, the Mean Green (8-22, 2-16) had two critical turnovers down the stretch that allowed Marshall University to win 106-104. North Texas blew a one-point lead after a turnover on an inbounds pass gave Marshall (17-14, 10-8) forward Ryan Taylor the go-ahead layup with 6.9 seconds remaining in the game. After another turnover by North Texas allowed the Thundering Herd to extend the lead on a free throw with just four seconds to go in the final game of the season. With one final chance to send the game to overtime, freshman guard A.J. Lawson sprinted coast-to-coast but missed a layup at the final buzzer. Lawson led UNT in scoring with 26 points, fifteen of which came in the second half. Despite his strong performance, free throws were a struggle for as he went just 4-of-12 from the line. “He’s got to continue to work on those [free throws],” Benford said. “But he did a great job of playing hard and making plays for us. North Texas displayed one of its best shooting performances of the season in the loss and had its highest scoring output against a Division I team in the Tony Benford era. The Mean Green shot over 60 percent field and 44 percent from 3-point range. North Texas also managed to tie its season-high by scoring 53 points in the first half. View Full Article

  30. I got a sneak peak at the menu. Todd Dodge Roll- It's an underwhelming "Southlake" Dragon Roll. It sounds promising but will end up giving you heartburn. Why Not North Texas Roll- stuffed with Gator meat and produce from Iowa. It goes well with a shot of Grey Goose. Tony Benford Roll- It is a roll that is stuffed with great ingredients. However, it ends up being a dumpster fire. There's a good chance it will be scrapped from the menu soon.

  32. Gagree. I enjoyed the communication from WB and despite the grumblings of some I am still in the camp of of giving the new look AD a chance to right the ship before I cry foul then take my ball and go home. I still expect results from this department and I expect WB and NS to place a premium on establishing a winning culture here at UNT. From what I am seeing it sounds like we are taking steps to promote just that kind of a culture. As it has been said here in the hallowed halls of GMG.com, we have suffered through a culture that accepts and perpetuates losing for years and years, driving off fans and donors alike. Turning that around doesn't happen overnight though, and in the grand scheme of college athletics I would say that expecting a massive seismic shift in culture and performance 150 days into the tenure of the new Athletic Director would count as overnight. To me this thread indicates a competition between dreams / wishes vs. actual realistic and achievable expectations. We can have both, but we need to be able to know the difference between the two. there is nothing wrong with seeing the positive changes happening at UNT, recognizing then appreciating them while still maintaining an eye towards the future and holding the new AD accountable for the expectations that they are setting and the expectations that we as a fan base of this great university should have. This isn't a 0 sum game.

  35. Keeping him around was a pretty bush league way to run off the die hards. Now you have less fans, less money, and people that are questioning your priorities and abilities as an AD. If you're suggesting this was the high road or the smart path, I respectfully disagree. Put on your big man pants and tell the world you will not tolerate losing.

  37. I propose only keeping this series if you can schedule a P5 team at home before 2027. This is a one way series. UTEP and La Tech bring more fans to Apogee than SMU. Meanwhile, UNT is filling SMU coffers every other year because fans with zero aspirations to be better see this as UNT's Super Bowl.
