But I thought it was guaranteed that SMU would back out of this deal. Funny how that worked out. I am glad to see the series continue.6 points

It would be a sacrilege to have the name Hurley associated with anything having to do with athletics.6 points

Updated Roster for Spring: http://www.meangreensports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/ntex-m-footbl-mtt.html Curious to see a lot of our linebackers sitting around the 220-230 mark. Looks like they're pushing speed over size. Really hoping they put Kelvin Smith more at the H-back running routes out of the backfield. I think it'll happen more as the O-line gels together and we don't need to max protect as much with the H-back Also really interested to see the QB and Slot(A Receiver) battles play out. To me, the slot might be the most important receiver in this offense. We need a Wes Welker/Trent Taylor type that can consistently pick up 7-8 yards a catch and get those first downs in crucial spots4 points

Here is my understanding of the track/soccer facility based on what Dr. Smatresk said in a recent meeting I attended for the College of Arts & Sciences: the facility will be an outdoor facility and the soccer field portion, inside the track, is meant to be a practice facility for soccer. Soccer games to continue to be played where they currently are played. The new track facility is also to have offices built for track and field and soccer. Now, as always, much depends upon cost estimates and the ever changing attitudes, opinions, wants and needs of the athletic department and university. Until plans are completed and dirt is turned, all remains in flux. But, this is just another move by a university administration that finally "gets it" when it comes to what a "Tier One Athletic Program" can do for the university overall in terms of funding and enrollment.4 points

You have to remember though that their FPI looks at your past 4 seasons. I would argue we're now in the best position we've been in in 4 years.3 points

We were generally ranked between 125-128 last season, too. We have a good coach and a schedule that has a lot of winnable games. I expect us to win at least 5 games again, which alone puts us in the 90s, at least. I actually think we will 6 if we stay healthy and if our QB play is decent. I see us winning the following games: Lamar, UAB, UTEP, and Army at home. I think we will win at least one of these games, if not more: UTSA @ FAU, ODU, and @ Rice. I don't see us beating SMU, USM, or LT on the road, but tis possible. Iowa is just a bodybag right now, unfortunately...3 points

We always have the announcement of a new BB coach to look forward to.3 points

I assume you're talking about the AD staff & Pres Smatresk flying around looking at IPFs? How much Athletic Dept money do you think was spent on that trip?3 points

Hambone is a 5 technique (head up) DE no more LB from my understanding. And that is exactly where he needs to play.3 points
-
FTFY. Also, you bring up a good point. There are currently 10 LB's(11 if you count Hambone) on the roster, not counting Fulp. That effectively gives you a 3 man rotation at every LB spot. Also noticing a few DB's with some good size on the roster. This defense is gonna be fun to watch. Guys are gonna fly to the ball from any and every direction3 points

It's been answered a bunch of times this season already. What happened when we fired both Dodge and Mac mid season? The teams that were swirling the toilet actually responded and played better. The players responded to a different voice. In addition, it at least sent some semblance of a signal to the fan base (certainly in Mac's case) that the results were not going to be tolerated and change was on the way. At this point, it's all moot. He's coaching through the season. Doesn't mean the few hardcore fans left have to be happy about how this has been allowed to play out.3 points
-
I am not worried, as he had a chance to be around the program for a year with his father. He probably built some strong bonds with players and coaches alike. GMG3 points

I love how Kansas has all of these facilities placed together. Then again, you start looking at the available land and you quickly run out of space for everything we would want. I know I feel better with Wren Baker making these decisions than I ever felt about RV.3 points

How does firing him during the season disrupt the players' education? Does Benford teach classes on the side?3 points

Ahhh yes. UNT does a couple of things like the big boys like flying a private plane to see facilities in person and getting serious about a practice facility and people here are upset. SMH3 points

http://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/129505/ohio-state-is-no-1-in-preseason-fpi-1-0 Perception is everything I think we're way better than 125 but it goes to show what the national media thinks. Hopefully Littrell uses this as bulletin board material2 points

Interesting that we'd be ranked 125 after going from 1-11 to 5-8. EDIT: Our predicted offense rank is 118?2 points

Can't win if you can't score. Think you'll be surprised by the depth at LB In 3-3 stack Eck runs only need 3 LBs then two hybrid guys like baulkman, Preston, type guys. One high safety McClain/Robinson and 2 corners DE NT DE. JACK. BANDIT LB MLB. LB C. FS. C excuse my bad spacing2 points

So when it's 103 with a head index of 110 and the state or NCAA mandates so many breaks at certain temps, you don't think it'd be beneficial to have an indoor facility? Or when it's lightning, bad weather etc? Come on, an IPF is absolutely necessary at this level of football. It shows your serious to recruits. Will it win games? Who knows but if you can gain 2 hours of practice one week bc you don't miss due to weather that definitely gives you a better chance to win a game by being more prepared. Where I'm at we have a 50 yard indoor, but it's only 30 yards wide. Can't do any team inside, so when weathers bad we get individual only, and maybe a walk through/talk. A full size indoor that's legal size would definitely impact our program in a positive way.. especially when it lightening strikes outside and we have a minimum of 30 minutes between Thor guard siren and all clear every time it goes off.2 points

I'm wondering if it is the grad xfer from ASU.1 point

You are right. Another point, it was apparently a high priority in the Benford hire that he could keep the squad he inherited together. I think getting the right coach this time is much more important than the status of the returnees. As stated, I think there is the nucleus of a good team available to the new staff; however the right hire should be capable of getting better players.1 point

Ideally I'd love to have two top notch separate facilities. Finances and land availability might not make it possible. I just want to make sure we do it right and build something our athletes can be proud of. One thing I can guarantee, no matter how great a facility we build we will have people on this board complain about it.1 point
