  2. It's good that SMU found a use for their football stadium during this bowl season.

  3. I doubt it, but wouldn't be surprised to see fine play a few drives. Fine is hurt...Morris is the 5th year senior and time for him to lead us to another victory!

  7. CUSA annually bodes well in bowl mania. So what. Put my team in a conference where the TV production doesn't look like an Al Jazeera prototype. Put my team in a conference where we're going to play on an ESPN affiliated network or when we suck (which is unfortunately often) watch teams in our conference on ESPN. Put my team in a conference where we have a real TV negotiation to financially help us. Yes, CUSA has done well in the past and is continuing that same success this bowl season and I am proud of that, but we should not be selling a bunker down mentality inside this conference. We, like most teams in our conference, would bolt at the opportunity.

  10. Imagine how our 2014 crowd would have looked if we had played the game at Amon Carter and we had drawn Navy instead of UNLV. Can you say capacity crowd?

  11. I think Vito is overstating things when he says "Morris played well". Compared to the quarterbacks we've had the past few years, yes. Compared to an above average NCAA quarterback, no.

  13. I live right down the road from the stadium. tickets were only $30 so I said screw it and went. La tech ppl are awesome, and that game was a blast! Would have been perfect if they sold beer

  14. Congrats to La Tech - great game against a really good Navy team. CUSA would go 6-1 if the Muts and our beloved Mean Green win!

  17. This is exactly right. I understand that presently, C-USA is our home; and presently, it isn't a bad place to be. But all these teams you mention as being so thrilled to be associated with, every one of them would bolt without hesitation at an AAC offer. We may be in C-USA for a good while yet, but I wouldn't get so complacent and comfortable here that we wait while all the good teams leave, and we end up in a conference with South Alabama, ULM, Georgia State, Charlotte, and FIU. We need to be proactive and seize/make opportunities.

  18. I'm asking this rhetorically because I know the answer, but you realize al-jazeera is a very large, wealthy, and respected news network right?

  19. If you have a friend (or 2) who might want to go to this game and just needs a ticket BRING THEM. I will have a small stack of extra tickets Tuesday before the game

  20. Lol it would have sold out. Good for La Tech winning. Only helps conference USA get some recognition, now we MUST do our part and go win this bowl. Man I'm so ready for us to right the ship and keep it that way. And I've only been on board since 2011.

  23. Alright Mean Green fans. This may be my last opportunity to talk to you before we go out to meet the Black Knights of ARMY. Did I mention they are the Black Knights ? That means they will wear BLACK. North Texas fans need to wear GREEN. Any other color will be misunderstood by the television audience and by the fans across the field. No matter what embroidery is on your shirt/coat/jacket, the primary color should be GREEN. A black sweatshirt with "North Texas" in 1 inch tall letters will appear to be an ARMY supporter across the field and on TV. Wear GREEN. BE loud. Be present. Beat ARMY GO MEAN GREENY

  24. Back to the Fry thing, simply not true. If you had 100% hindsight, than perhaps it was a questionable decision. The MVC had deteriorated to a horrible football conference. The only benefit to staying would have been if you had predicted that the NCAA would change their requirements to stay in 1a. This is speculation, but I think Dr. Hurley was not at all opposed to NT dropping down. The mistake Fry made was not trying to get into CUSA instead of resting all his hopes on the SWC. NT had both a good football and basketball teams at the time and I think could have made that move if the Administration was behind it. Also jumping conferences is not the same thing as trying to go independent in hopes of getting into another conference as Fry did. Having said that, I think CUSA performance in the bowl games proves how little difference there is among the G5's. As far as 90's comments, there is not a scenario that he wouldn't complain about. He posts to get a reaction, which he once again has done. Almost every team in the NCAA is looking for a better conference situation.

  25. He does not lack athleticism, that is an asset of his not the opposite. He does not play near aggressive enough whether that is due to fear of fouling or just lack of experience or drive; that is his primary problem. He actually has a good mid-range game, but that is probably not an asset because he needs to stay close to the basket. He played at a relatively small high school and of course had no competition close to his height. He definitely needs big guy coaching and learn to use his advantages over just about everyone he is going to play against. His game is primarily that of a 6'8 player and most players that size are going to be a lot quicker. He needs to forget those jump hooks and jump shoots that he is lucky if he can hit 40% and go for layups and dunks. I actually think Benford is trying to get him to play his size and that may explain his lack of minutes. But the primary problem that coaching should have taken place in the off-season. Benford is in a must win situation and player development is a very low priority.

  26. First off, I finally have my tickets in hand! Wooo hooo!! I'll be in Section 22, Row 16 Now here's what happened.... After a few days of patiently waiting, I just drove to the FedEx shipping place today and asked if they might have a package for me. Turns out they did, but I would have never received it because the UNT ticket office had given them the wrong delivery address!!!!! Not really sure how that happened because the ticket rep Ben correctly read my address back to me over the phone....but anyway, problem averted. GMG ! BEAT ARMY !

  27. I agree with Harry on many fronts and several in this message. He didn't say to stop looking, only to give credit where it is completely due. The Sun Belt and CUSA are both having stellar bowl seasons. They are outclassing the AAC and MWC by playing smash-mouthed finesse football, and its working. I don't like the makeup of the AAC. I like the makeup of the MWC but would only want us to jump there with other Texas teams. I actually think Houston and SMU are at a disadvantage having only each other as Texas teammates. We absolutely are in a more favorable position in CUSA West. We have 3 Texas Rivals to their 1. I also don't like all the tiny private schools in their league. They don't get attendance or get me fired up even though they put out some solid programs, like Tulsa. Is the AAC perceived to be better, yes. Do I like its configuration, no. I like CUSA's configuration and MWC's TEAMS much better. Build the Program. Feed the Rivalries. Pound the Chest. Beat Army. Go Mean Green!!!!!

  29. I'll always want better for UNT. The AAC had multiple teams ranked this year, with one team being ranked as high as #5. The MWC also had at least one team ranked, Boise St., just off the top of my head. CUSA had zero. CUSA is Sun Belt 2.0. UNT should be working their ass off to get to a better conference instead of having a complacent attitude that Harry just trumpeted of just wanting to do ok. WKU is looking to leave. As is La. Tech. They would JUMP at an offer from either of those 2 conferences. I'd bet both have let the AAC know through back channels that they are interested. EVERY other team in CUSA would bolt for those conferences at this point. Why should UNT, and especially their fan base, want less? If you don't understand the public perception of the AAC and the MWC as compared to CUSA, well, you have your head firmly planted in the sand. Oh, and basketball. Not that we have a program currently.

  30. Adding that many players from big time conferences can take time to gel especially if any have egos (I hope they do). You want every player on your team to think they're the best shooter etc. just have to play together. No doubt Mitchell will correct the bad effort. I have way more faith in Mitchell than Benford and it isn't even close.

  32. Call the ticket office Monday. See if they can just have your tickets at will call or at the UNT pre-game tailgate. Others, I know, are picking their tickets up this way. Just bring your receipt to the tailgate if you have a printed one. My two "go to" folks when this sort of thing pops up are Mike Smith and Reggie Johnson.
