  1. As someone who has attended his fair share of both Mean Green and Gator games, I was going to restrain myself from chiming in, but here goes: the entire Del Rio incident was an example of how unfortunate things can sometimes happen even when people are just doing their jobs. Wheeler was just doing his job trying to get to Del Rio. Between getting around the Gator OL and trying to get the sack, I can't possibly see how Wheeler could have possibly had the time or physical ability to plan out making a specific hit to injure Del Rio. McElwain was also doing his job, he is in his second year, has a new, unproven QB, and needs to get both the team and the Gator fanbase to buy in to him. Raising a ruckus after the Del Rio injury seemed like exactly the thing to do to show a young Gator team that their coach has their back. This is all the more important for a time that has to travel to Tennessee next week and will do so with an even less proven QB. Littrell has the same job as McElwain, show his team and Mean Green fans that he will fight for them and get them ready for bigger battles down the road. Standing up to McElwain was exactly the way to do that. No need for anyone to hate anyone here. That is why Georgia fans exist, for everyone to hate.

  2. I've had time to think about Mason and his performance and I have to say that I think he made a lot of mature decisions. The pockets were collapsing quick. I can't say I've seen that many collapse like that so often in a game. They were rushing two every time it seemed. We couldn't even get the running game going through that line. I agree with those calling for slants. The way they were rushing us, that seems the perfect play to counter it. With all that, he could have tried to run outside and get squirley. I think that would have resulted in bigger losses and turn overs. He kept his cool and kept the loss of yards manageable. He only threw one INT and it was the one time that his inexperience and youth showed. It's not that he chose to not throw the ball in many cases because we know he didn't have time. When he did have time he made great plays. There were some very well thrown deep routes. I'm starting to think he's the best option and really excited about it. I haven't been excited about QB in so long it sure does feel good. I think he's going to find his rhythm and we will be in for a show. Our WRs made some good plays. If our O line can gel and get better, coupled with this defense, I have faith this could be a promising year for the team.

  3. The SMU QB got tackled hard while running 10 yards or so down field so I have no idea why he's being brought up. As for Wheeler's hit on Del Rio it was well above the knee. Rick

  5. Rice: The play a 4 man defensive line 4-2-5 Base Nickel Defense Play 2 QB (the 2nd QB runs a spread option and rarely passes) Played a decent half against Baylor Friday (defense played well) They have at least 3 good running backs Seem to lack speed at the receiver position Like to use a lot of horizontal misdirection to create running lanes QB's not very accurate down the field and can't drive the ball They have an average pass rush from the front 7 UNT Keys Limit their run game Win on first down Force them to throw the ball down the Field Patience on offense (Fine should have time to throw) Rice Campus Notes Great G5 Stadium Really Good Private School Gorgeous campus with beautiful trees I highly recommend it as an away game trip. Definitely a winnable game and there will be plenty of good seats available.

  10. You don't know what you're talking about, Kreskin. Luckily your QB wasnt injured worse because of your tight end--because his ass was beaten on the play--tripping our player into his own man. Now go on and see if you can help out with that sinkhole down in Mulberry, and haul your troll ass out of here.

  18. I have a feeling seeing the speed and strength of Florida, arguably the best defense in the country, will start to slow things down for him tremendously for conference play. Nick Mullens looked a lot like Fine as a freshman, and now he's the best QB in the conference. Wouldn't be surprised to see Fine in the same position in a couple years

  19. Del Rio was being tended to on the field. McElwain came out all the way past the gator at midfield and was screaming at the UNT sideline. This caused players on both teams to surge onto the field as refs tried to keep them back. Littrell came out onto the field maybe 20 feet alongside his players and yelled something back at him. It looked to me like he thought McElwain was being an idiot. After the game the coaches shook hands and embraced, and McElwain held the hug a long time while he talked in Littrell's ear. Littrell didn't say much back. It looked like McElwain was doing all the explaining. Or asking him out. It was an uncomfortably long hug. I had flashbacks to slow dancing with Laura Dumais to Journey's "Open Arms" at Apollo Junior High School in 1982. Shuffle, step, shuffle, step, shuffle, step. There should be a punishment for a coach who comes so far onto the field and nearly incites a bench-clearing brawl.

  21. wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.... wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong... breath... wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong... You must not watch football much... I would recommend classes on rational thought and potentially look into lasik or something... in humid weather, sometimes glasses can get fogged up, obscuring your vision... It is very very unfortunate that Del Rio got hurt. That sux for him and it sux for the entire Florida team. Nobody wishes injury on anybody if you have even half a heart. But dude.... come on man. Use your eyes, and watch that play. and the SMU "incident", you are an absolute moron to even bring up the qb running in the open field. so again, wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong... never let the facts get in the way of an over emotional response. I hope other Gator fans are not like you.... but then again, the twitter blitz on the beat writer and head coach tells me that your problem is a bit more common amongst the gator fans out there...

  23. No, we do not, and the only reason I'm replying is to say 'up yours' for starting a thread with such a title at this time. We are not in a conference that distributes megamillions to its members and we are not one of the top teams historically in such a conference. The game structure has polarized. After all these years, we SHOULD be in such a conference, but that is not the fault of the current players or coaches. I wish we were not in an embryonic state after disastrous leadership, but given that is where we are, I am fairly astonished that the score was not like 73-6. Maybe you confused our program for one that had to replace a coach that got hired away because of the great program he built. We are the opposite and that is hard to turn. In the next few games we should start to see whether our new coaches are capable of turning it around. At least they beat on Bethune which won a lot of games last year. At this point I'm actually optimistic. And that's pretty hard to do.

  26. What's that supposed to mean, "Cheap little shots trying to prove to themselves they belong on the field with us"? You mean, "Trying to win the game"? That's football, son. You play the game; it's a physical game; and sometimes people get hurt. I'm not glad your QB got hurt, and no one in our fanbase or on the UNT coaching staff or team is. Get over yourself.

  29. Now that's funny. I played on the 1994 Southland Conference Championship team, 1995 Independent team and two seasons of the Big West. The reason I know the situation so well is because I was the starting long snapper for North Texas in 94, 95, 96 & 97 minus 2.5 quarters during the Oklahoma game in 95. I was benched by Matt Simon before the Oklahoma game for reasons never explained to me. I was told Chuck Mills fought like hell to keep me as the starter but Simon wanted the #2 guy to start. Needless to say I got my job back in the 3rd quarter in Norman after a second bad snap that went over the punters head. I'll leave the names out even though it doesn't matter now and give y'all the readers digest version. OU pinned us on our own goal line. On 3rd down our tailback fumbled on a run up the middle. It appeared it was OU ball. It wasn't, the tailback recovered. OU ran their offense on the field. Our defense and punt team both started running on the field. Half our team realized it was still our ball. The defense returned to the sideline. OU still had their offense on the field. 10 members of our punt team lined up, minus a future All American/NFL punter. It's the up backs job to count players and he didn't. OU was switching out personnel so it should have been an easy free punt. The up back was screaming "snap the ball" over and over. The long snapper had never been on the field before and absolutely not in front of a sold out OU crowd. He did what the up back told him to do. He snapped the ball out of the endzone, minus a punter, for a safety. So, who do you think was the long snapper in the media guide? Yours truly. ESPN ran it all year. Letterman called me the dumbest player in college football. My answering machine was full for weeks. My friends make fun of me to this day, although they know what happened. So, where was I. Truth be told, the punter, kicker and I thought it was a fumble and we had been admiring a couple of OU coeds a couple of feet behind us. Crucify us for checking out girls/cheerleaders but that is standard operating procedure no matter what is going on at 20 years old. The punter saw what was happening and tried to run out. The long snapper should have taken the delay of game and backed up two feet but lacked experience, especially in the craziness of a large crowd. In the end, I never screwed up a snap in four seasons and snapped the ball to 2 All-Americans who both went on to the NFL. Thankfully, few ever knew my name.

  31. This "looking at doing something different about our scheduling" discussion reminds me of that dialogue between the miners and the Mormon with two wives in "Paint Your Wagon". The miners are suggesting that the Mormon sell/auction one of his wives, and the most troublesome, Elizabeth (Jean Seaburg) volunteers for the auction..... Mad Jack Duncan: What about it Mormons? Sarah Woodling: [whispering] Jacob. We need every penny, Jacob. And I can't bear another day of those martyred looks. There. There it is again! Elizabeth: This isn't a martyred look, Sarah. This look is puuuure - hatred. Jacob Woodling: Quiet! Brigham Young has twenty seven wives and he hasn't had half the trouble with them that I've had with the two of you! Elizabeth: Then simplify your life, Jacob. Sell me. Jacob Woodling: But Elizabeth: you don't know what you'll get. Elizabeth: I know what I've had.

Maybe timing has not been there! I really look forward to the Rice game for all of us to see the real Fine! GMG

  37. Your players threw punches and yanked facemasks. Facemasks aren't always intentional, but closed-fisted punches are. Your coach committed an act that would have gotten a manager in the MLB tossed from the game. No, no... your team didn't do diddly squat. Oh my God, that is freakin' funny.

  38. Yep. Good luck against Tennessee and I hope Del Rio is healthy for it. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and others will develop the common sense you have if they relook at the recordings with an open mind. The social media blitz against Littrell is a shame, but he needs to have thick skin in his role.

  39. What was Wheeler's girlfriend doing? Was she trying to pull the coach back or was she trying to get away? There had to be a second tripper, Noone can get that many trips off in 3 seconds from a bolt action shoe.
