  1. I'm pretty proud of this cake. I didn't make it myself, but I sure did pay for it! This was created by a baker in Florida for my destination beach wedding. I was pretty impressed with what they were able to do with just a few pictures from the internet. They may have been a little too generous with the attendance represented in the stands for some games though. Haha! Only complaints could possibly be the center field logo needed to be turned and the kids fingerprints in the front of the building (damn flower girls!). I got the SOW black napkins at the fan forum a few weeks ago. Glad i was there and the bartender was more than willing to give them to me for this table. And it tasted pretty good too!

  2. Yes, I'm glad I decided to go ahead and go. It was particularly encouraging to meet the staff that were there. Their attitude seemed totally different than the status quo attitudes of the staff I worked with during my time as a UNT employee. One individual, who is fairly new to the university said "I'm tired of hearing 'potential.' It's time for North Texas to be what it is meant to be (paraphrased)." It brought a tear to my eye...

  3. No idea if you have the power or pull, however if you do can you PLEASE make sure that by next camp season prospective students athletes can sign up for our camps online? Do you remember the question I asked about allowing coaches to navigate our website for the THSCA Button to Mr. Keuhne? Well several of my athletes do not have a printer at home, obviously I helped them and got it printed and they filled it out and mailed it in. How many kids have that support? Lets just make it as easy as possible. I am sure I will get 1,000,000,000,000,000 down votes for the link I am going to paste. However, just check out how easy it is to sign up for SMU camp. Google SMU FOOTBALL CAMP, click the first link that pops up. Then go from there very slick layout very cool website. I hope and pray we can get this together under our new AD. http://www.ponyuptempo.com/camps Feedback is appreciated.

  5. And it not just losing, it is not being competitive. If go to a conference game and we are in the game until the late in the 4th quarter I am NOT happy but I don't feel ripped off. I want to stay for the playing of our alma mater. But when your team looks like it was an amateur team playing a pro team you don't feel like it. It is impossible and unreasonable to expect to even every home game. We should have the expectation as fans and alumni of the team that a teenager nearing making a decision to go to college get the impression from the quality of the stadium, the fans and the play the field that UNT is a top notch university. A university on par with (or better than) any other public university in the state of Texas. Apogee is a great investment but we need a bigger heart investment by more of our alumni. Crushing Abilene Christian in Apogee is not much better than in Fouts Field. The only difference are nicer distractions from a game that should not be a contest. And I thought the whole purpose of building Apogee was to have fewer games against FCS schools and more against schools you would be proud for your children to attend if they did not choose UNT. (This is no shot at Abilene Christian because you choose that school for things that large public university can't give you.) You want to play more teams that are recognizable to your average college football fan. Nothing cheapens the value of your ticket than offering your ticket to a friend only to have explain who opponent is. (Even when that friend watches CFB almost every weekend). I started with 4 season tickets, reduced it to 3, then to 2 and now to none. It was painful cause I love my school and want support it beyond just donations. Sorry but amenities only go so far when the team isn't playing an opponent you want to see half the time and losing the other half the time. We need more fans whose passion is greater than what they spend on season tickets. That means demanding competitiveness! That isn't winning the division every year but that mean getting the first Saturday in November every year with shot at it.

  7. My wife doesn't understand me. We have, as far as I'm concerned, the best seats at Apogee. I like the people we sit with and I like that we've made new friends as a result of our game day experience. I have a good parking pass that helps me get up close when I arrive and keeps me in the parking lot too long when the game is over. I like the meal in the Club Level. Every time. My wife likes to get a glass of wine and watch me pout over bad plays. But, if we lose, I have had a bad day. I try to minimize that, but if we lose, I'm unhappy. Not with my wife or the fans or the stadium or the weather but I'm unhappy. I go to the games, much as I like my seats and my friends and the food and my pretty good parking pass, to win. Period. That is all that matters to me. If we lose, I'll still be there next week or next year, but I only come to win. GO MEAN GREEN

  8. untCampbell suggested it on June 27th...but bring back the Junior Mean Green Club Spirit line,...and allow the kids back onto the field to meet the players after games. Rick

  9. I feel optimistic. I see the good changes being made. I went to the Fort Worth Alumni Mixer today and met some really great folks excited to build interest in our University - all programs. There was a nice call out to make sure we get to Denton for the opener. I see a whole new generation of Mean Green leaders 20 years younger than me selling my University and feeling proud. We have great leadership and much opportunity ahead. Support support support. I also went by the Dallas Memorial today and took some pics with the officers doling out hugs, smiles and water. One of the Officers noticed my Mean Green shirt and said he couldn't wait to be cheering on a winning football team. I told him the only way to go was up and he smiled and said he was looking forward to it and loved that attitude. There are a lot of closet alum just waiting for us to break through. Time to jump on the Green Train! GMG

  11. This notion that there are those among us that are perfectly content with losing is ridiculous. I don't ever see fans high-fiving after losses. Everyone looks much like I feel. It ruins my day. It ruins my weekend (sadly). It certainly ruins my 5 hour drive back home. I hope and pray that the next AD turns it around. I have already told those in the AD that I don't have many more years of the losing left in my tank. I am sure many others have done the same.

  12. The problem is that MeanGreen_MBA never said he didn't want UNT to win, never said he picked Club Seats to rub elbows with the AD, didn't pick Alabama out of thin air as a comparison, etc... You just twisted everything to fit your agenda. He stated he liked to social aspect of being up there which to me is no different than saying I like my seats in Section 106 because I like the people that sit around me. Sometimes it is best to just bite your tongue or maybe realize that a lot of people share your passion to see us succeed, but they go about it differently.

  13. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/17108512/big-12-begin-exploring-expansion-candidates Time for us to win is now, so that we can possibly move "up" to the MWC or AAC once the Big 12 takes whomever it is going to take from those conferences. Keep losing and...we'll be looking at FCSLand again...or, whatever becomes of the remaining G5 after 2016 or 2017. Littrell, Smatresk, the new AD...all of them need to understand that to keep from sinking, we can't wait for a complete "rebuild." Miracles are needed, and needed soon.

  17. How do we get fans to games...all games? I am asking to hear actionable suggestions on what "WE" as supporters of the program can do to bring more people to the games. Also, what real and actionable activities the AD and school to do to bring fans to the game. I commit to bring 4 new people to a game this year that have not been to a game in the past 10 years... Not much, but a start

  20. Had a great time at the UNT Alumni mixer last night. Met some great alumni from the area, as well as some good folks from the University. I thought it was nice to have an opportunity to just mingle, not have a set agenda or presentation. There were around 60 of us, lots of folks wearing green, on a Tuesday night in Fort Worth. Very encouraging. I know they have several of these set up in other areas over the next several weeks. I'd encourage everyone to go if it's in your neck of the woods. Other "big time" schools can do these on a regular basis, lets at least prove we can do them once. Go Mean Green!

  26. I want to believe in Smatty and SL. The fact that Benford is still employed is a black cloud hanging over Mean Green Country. The groundwork is (hopefully) being laid, but a couple of early season wins in football will go a long ways towards chipping away at the malaise affecting the fanbase. Couple that with some needed changes/progress throughout the AD and a new coach to provide some MBB excitement and we will all look back at this time with relief that it's over.

  30. 0% chance, for a variety of reasons I'm going to explain below. Texan Donald Trump means nothing. UH's one season doesn't earn them a seat at the table. Big 12 has two teams in Texas, none in Ohio. Ohio is big time Big 10 territory, and they need to enter the market. Despite A&M, the Big 12 controls Texas with UT & Tech. Cincinnati has made a bowl every year since 2007, UH 2012. In a down year for Cincy, they averaged 37K. In UH's best year ever, they averaged 34K. Cincinnati has a storied men's basketball program and sell out a 14K seat arena regularly. UH had Phi Slamma Jamma and hasn't done anything since the early 90s. They never sell out their stadium (which is decrepit at best). Cincinnati is ranked higher than UH in every major publication academically and has double the endowment. Cincinnati has been in a BCS/P5 conference far longer than UH has. Houston is not an ideal college football market, either. UH has nothing over Cincy. And don't even get me started on BYU, which is in another stratosphere above the Coogs. Cincy is also a lot higher up on the university in-state food chain due to the fact that there aren't nearly as many good universities in Ohio as there are in Texas. B12's short list is likely: 1.) BYU 2.) Cincy 3.) UH 4.) UConn

  32. One of my pet peeves. All star teams at any level that contain more players than there are on a team. There are countless high school all district teams which nearly every senior starter is on the first team all district. Cheapens the honor to next to nothing.

  34. If we had had Zephyr produce a design like that, it would never have been approved by the athletic department. Our pro-line NT-star hat is still a killer design but certain people didn't agree. I love this design and would buy one if I knew where they are sold. Here's my challenge to the unimaginative alumni association. Have Zephyr produce the same hat, but with the alumni NT-star instead of the SOW. You'll sell out of them.

  35. You didn't put everyone in a catagory. What you did was hit a nerve with some people that needed that nerve hit. Bravo to you. At any point in a close game, you can wonder around inside the club level and see people perfectly content to drink and socialize without paying any attention to the game. Probably right around half of the club attendees. And these aren't just the non-sports fans that came with somebody. There are big donors and posters to this board included in this group. When you lose and lose consistently over a long period of time, one of three things happen to a fan. You either stop following the program, you get really pissed off and stay that way until you win, or you justify losing by going for "the social aspect" of the experience. You tell yourself winning isn't important. You stop caring about the actual game. You accept it. Under the previous AD I understood that mindset. UNT was never going to be successful with that guy running a complete sh1+ show of a program. But if UNT goes outside for a new hire, I would hope these attitudes change. For far too long people have accepted a status quo with UNT athletics that wouldn't have been accepted at all other FBS programs and a whole lot of FCS programs. That needs to change, from the fan base to the top of UNT administration. We have that opportunity. Will we F it up yet again?

  36. My Longhorn connected friend said prepare for the scramble of the Big 12 leftovers when Texas and OU break away. Expansion does not impact UT as they will be gone sooner than later and the rest of the league is going to be scrambling to get into one of the powers. There will be leftovers and those are the programs we need to be aligning with. I agree the MWC is more stable than AAC at this time. They have more history with each other and will weather this thing together. Doubt they are looking at Eastern programs for expansion at this time, but we should try. I think CUSA and Sun Belt eventually merge. GMG

  37. I've been talking about expectations on here since I joined this board. It's the pulse of a program. I am finally starting to read things that have me thinking we have a slightly palpable pulse. Not radial, we're not there yet. But there's definitely something there in the carotid. Bravo.

  43. What was this thread actually about? The only thing I took from it was that UNT90 and some other dude don't like each other.
    2 points
  44. @unt90 Yes he did. That is how it is written. Some of your comments are equally as bad towards donors. I guess for some giving is not good enough it's HOW you give.
    2 points
  45. Yes I do find that statement ironic. Or is it idiotic. By all means let's tear down fans for their giving. I mean we have so many to spare we are just culling the heard. At the very first opportunity I had I donated my hard earned money to the stadium project. I had no desire to sit in club seats or meet RV. I desperately wanted UNT to succeed in athletics. End of story. So the stadium is built and my donation covered the commitment for club seats. Hell yes I jumped all over it and the only access I wanted was to a Jack and Coke and some AC. Your comment has me seeing red because no matter their resources everyone who gives to the school has a choice of what to do with their money. We chose UNT. So now the game is to finger point and chastise our own. That is insane. That is disgusting.

  46. Too bad you carry all that anger from getting cut from every teams you tried out for....it's what you don't say, as you say. Life is actually a pretty good ride if you let it.... Part of the fan experience you will never know with the bad attitude....
