  1. On the game broadcast, I just watched Mike Canales as the band played "Glory to the Green and White" after the UTEP game. His jaw was clenched before it began and he performed it alongside the team with obvious emotion. I'd share the video if I could get it off my Xfinity DVR. Say what you will about his job performance, but Canales had more love for this school on his way out the door than any UNT head coach I can remember. I hope he gets a head coaching gig somewhere in FCS. Update: Here's the video, filmed off the screen:

  3. Must be a misprint. Several people swore on this board that 1) the donors would never give that much, or 2) The BOR would never allow anyone to be paid that much. I'm guessing the real contract is somewhere around $17.50/HR.

  6. Those poor ACC bastards. This announcement will rob their game of all its thunder. The teams will just be going through the motions.

  12. Here are 5 things I hope you will or won't do when you get here. Please don't say "Why not North Texas?" Partially because others have said it, and partially because you never ask a question that you don't want to hear the answer too. And there are plenty of bad answers to that question. Please don't say "There are 200K alumnus in the area there isn't any reason we can't fill Apogee" There actually are plenty of reasons. For most of the time the school has neglected athletics. Most students now alums moved on to cheer for another team. They can be brought back, but that's your job on the field not in statements to pressPlease don't say "There are so many good kids right around DFW we just have to recruit those here". No that won't work. Remember point 2 about how the school neglected athletics, well everyone around DFW knows this (or more importantly thinks this too). That makes it harder to get those kids to come here. You should start there, but that won't be as easy as you might think. If it's true that people in the AD's office refer to this as the idiot board, please ignore them. There certainly may be idiotic things said on here, but we are your most fanatical supporters. Treat us with respect and include us. I don't know what that looks like, you'll figure it out. The main thing is we all want it as much as you do, probably moreIn regards to this board, also please don't listen to us. We are going to be emotional. We will want the opposite of whatever you are doing until we win. If you are as talented as it seems, stick to your plan, and have us ranked in year 4 regardless of what we say, and we will build you a statue.Feel free to add your own.

  13. If people keep grilling UNT90 like this I'm going to dig up what we all said on this board when McCarney and Dodge were hired. Those of us who participated in the Fire RV campaign did it because we are sick and tired of losing and RV making excuses. If by chance UNT has made its first good football hire in RV's 14-year tenure at UNT we're not going to hate that. We're going to be as happy as an alcoholic who marries a liquor store owner.

  14. I'm on board with Litrell, but as long as RV is around there are legitimate reasons to be concerned about the future of our program.

  15. My first choice was Willie Fritz. However it seems he is happy to sit at GSU until he can grab a P5 post. I don't know if that gamble will work out for him, but it's the one he is making. However I was very please with the selection pool. I would have been happy with either of the finalists. If Littrell can round out his staff by snagging some young talent from the Leach coaching tree and pairing it with some veteran experience on the defensive side I will be frankly ecstatic.

  16. “I’m very interested,” Smatresk said. “I view this as part of a broader landscape of [UNT] becoming nationally prominent.” Sports, the window through which UNT is viewed? This is a good idea.

  17. "Let's analyze what's been working for us............. not a goddamn thing's been working for us!" Pretty much sums up the last 40 years of this program.

  23. We did have one other bit of good news in the big 3 this year, thanks to Jalie Mitchell and women's BB beating No. 17 Oklahoma for her first win as coach. And we should credit women's soccer for winning CUSA. But otherwise, it was a sad trombone kind of year.

  24. UNT90 The issue people have is not with you and the fact you disagree It is that no matter what you continue to try to put down the program and be completely negative. Please try and have one day where you're not so negative, trust me it will be OK

  25. Now that you mention it, he does have all of his teeth. (Not that I would make that Okie joke in front of Coach Littrell, since he seems to be a large, easily angered man and he frightens me.)

  30. If RV messes up this FB coaching hire...I simply could not understand anyone's logic on supporting the man. Regarding Benford....it's also pretty darn evident the man has no clue what he is doing.

  33. I will be among those sitting back and see how it goes. At least there is hope now. I would have preferred to have someone with HC experience, as going with someone who has never been an HC is always a crapshoot (still not sure SMU is gonna be happy with who they picked). That said, crap shoots can also go in your favor, and there is nothing saying Litrell will fail, just as there is nothing saying he will suceed. But if he comes in and starts to improve recruiting, then that would already be an important step for the pogress of the program. All that said.to me this is not his hire but Smatresks. RV still needs to be on the hook for Dodge and MacCarney....and for Benford.

  34. If Dr. Smatresk truly believes this concept then he had better get a new window cleaner. And firing and hiring new coaches doesn't count. Coaches are not responsible for the job of keeping the window clean.

  35. I'm just so happy that at the last minute they didn't suprise us by going with a special teams coach out of Monahans TX. Seriously, I feel good about this hire. Good things are to come....season tickets in 2016 for me - YES! - 'drinking the juice'

  36. "Hahaha, Oh what a day!! We sittin' up here, look at this draft guru, Gil Brandt. The late, the great Gil Brandt. This man has seen more talent than anybody el . . . Oh! A phong is ringin'. Michael Crabtree, hello? They won't say who it is. I bet you wanna know also. I wanna know, who is that guy callin' Michael Trabtree? And when is he gon' go? We'll be back after these messages."

  37. I think the whole thing, as it pertains to this board, is a lesson in human psychology. A month ago no one here even had Littrell on their radar. Now we are all about to lose our minds if we can't hire him. Hey the guy looks good on paper but so do a lot of other coaches. I think the truth is most of us just hate feeling like the ugly girl at the dance.

  38. It is one thing to just disagree, but you are saying that your team is going to bust just because they didn't hire who you thought they should. That is not being a fan and I think you are letting your hatred for RV take over what support you have for your alma mater. Or maybe I am just being childish again......

  39. Fans should be concerned that Littrell won't have the best chance to succeed with RV around. He's got a way of doing things that has not produced success on the field and has not built a strong base of fan support. I think the best course of action is to pair the new leadership in football with new leadership at the AD position.

  40. I hope he was our first choice. Mac was a somewhat proven headcoach who had won in a difficult place and that didn't help. We got a proven offensive mind who will attract solid recruits. This is a good thing.

  42. I think as fan we need to get behind the new coach and know things won't change much in one season. However I hope he can do better than 1-11 his first season. They play at 7 tonight , why couldn't be an early game>>>>>>>>>>>>

  43. I think at this point, Meachum is just being mentioned to throw the public off of the Littrell scent. It sounds like we aren't bluffing with the promise of good money here, I can't wait for the contract meeting to finalize tomorrow. Then we can move onto recruiting!
