  1. I have two club seats (section 10) with a red/blue parking pass, and won't be able to make October 15. Wouldn't be able to deliver until tickets get mailed out though. Downside is that you have to sit next to UNT90.

  3. They were supposed to be at TCU tomorrow but TCU proved to be not very hospitable. They wanted the Musers to broadcast from up in a booth at the football stadium and they wouldn't allow the Ticket to put up a merchandise tent on campus. The Musers will broadcast from Texas Wesleyan tomorrow instead.

  6. Nah, they just turn over the tombstone's of their political opposition's parents. http://www.politico.com/story/2015/04/hillary-clinton-father-tombstone-toppled-116993.html Come on. Stop acting like conservatives hold some sort of higher ground when it comes to shit like this. You could have just kept it to "dispshits on either side" and left it at that.

I'll be doing a comic event that day in Tucson so I'll probably miss it, but here's the link for the rest of you to enjoy it if you're currently an out-of-towner like me: http://www.collegesp...m/?media=494780 Click here to view the article

  11. . This whole situation is ridiculous ..... As long as the speaker isn't there to push some extreme agenda ... leave him alone and shut up...... and listen. Gorbachev came to Midland College and I went .. it doesn't mean I agree with everything he said ...... plus I have gone to see Ben Stine and others at MC.... . didn't agree with everything he said either. .. . Don't be so narrow minded.... I remember some on a right wing radio protesting that "Commie" being in town.. Crazy... I am sure that in the past some would have protested Sandra Day O'Conner speaking because she was a woman on the Supreme Court and "women have no right to be there"... Grow up. ... heard her at MC too ..... She was first in law class and no law firm would hire her when she graduated .... wrong gender .. things change. This week Jay Leno is here at MC. .... so if I watch Letterman instead ... I should protest..?? I have tickets and will go.

  14. Does it seem a little shady on the surface that the administrators switched speakers? Sure, but if you asked the average student they wouldn't care. The vast majority of people attending the ceremony could care less who the speaker will be. There is no mass discontent on campus like you or the NT Daily want us to believe. This is such a small issue that a select few are blowing up and putting UNT in a negative light.

  16. When thinking about the Jimmy Show, well I like it WHEN it works, but all too often he seems to dance around behind the line and it's too late when he decides to hit the hole and he gets maybe a half yard or a yard or so. If the hole is big enough to drive a Mac truck through Jimmy is really fun to watch in open space. But, in a mess with a small opening you have to hit quickly, it just doesn't seem that is where Jimmy excels. Too much "dancing around" before hitting the hole is what I get out of watching him at practice and during scrimmages and games. Kid has tons of talent and is super exciting to watch in the open field. Just wish he would stop a bit of the Jimmy Dance and get in the hole earlier. Kid has NFL potential, but not sure with his running style he will get much of a look. Hope so...not counting on it. If Wilson can stay healthy it is pretty apparent that he's the guy! He's looking really good, and like most here, Jimmy's not the guy because he lacks talent. He's not the guy at this point because Wilson is just that much better at this point. Jimmy will see plenty of action and here's hoping he excites the crowd often!

  20. I've heard this argument made by a few different people on and off this board, but I have to disagree. NT has been it's own worst enemy for many decades now. While those two wins could've had a short term impact, I'm not entirely convinced it would've changed the way athletics were treated at NT over the long term. Programs are rarely defined by a single win. ULM beat alabama a years ago and has not found any material increase in relevance over the decade since. It's been 26 years since the loss at Texas. 26 years. There have been plenty of opportunities over that period for the program to build some momentum. Instead, we have not beaten a ranked team in a major sport since the mid 1970's. I put more blame on decades of apathy from our administration than a few boneheaded referees decisions 2-5 decades ago.

  23. The Courier-Journal "In a letter sent to WKU's faculty and staff, Ransdell added, "Specifically, the violations include hazing, underage alcohol consumption, and abuse, including engagement of perspective student athletes on recruiting visits to campus. Additionally, the investigations found that coaches were aware of this pervasive culture and failed to sufficiently eliminate inappropriate behavior within these teams."

  24. Hello again ladies and gentlemen! So, as some of you already know, I am the grants manager for the Child Study Center in Fort Worth. No one on my development team has been here for more than about six months and we have an auction event in May that is expected to have over 800 high rollers. Our director wants all hands on deck to solicit auction items for the silent auction portion of the night. The issue is that I do not have the connections to get thousand dollar stuff for free. But, even better, I have y'all! To keep this short - I was wondering if any of y'all may have box seats for a game that you won't be able to attend that you would be willing to donate to our auction event. Again, I appreciate any help y'all can provide and Harry, feel free to boot me if I'm getting too bold here! Cheers! -Tyler tmaryak@cscfw.org

  25. Between the posts on there and the main website, there were several mentions of people protesting, walking out, one even so far as having the sheriff arrest the President once he was within county lines. The point is people are people, and they're going to react the same way when they feel strongly about something. Some are definitely dumber than others.

  31. I think UNT got a high seed due to their strength of schedule. UNT has a record of 8-13, but 10 of the 21 matches were against nationally ranked teams and they beat two of them. Louisiana Tech had a 7-10 record, but played only 2 ranked teams and lost both matches. UNT and LT played only 3 common opponents: Northwestern State: UNT lost at home 3-4 and LT won away 5-2 South Alabama: UNT won at home 4-2 and LT lost at home 6-1 SFA: UNT won at home 4-0 and LT won at home 4-2 I predict UNT will win in a tight match because of the tough schedule they have played and the fact they are experienced in tournament pressure matches. The weather looks to be bad in Houston tournament time and may force indoor play, which may be an equalizer. I know UNT played at least one match indoors this year, but am not sure about LT. Indoor tennis is much different because of the controlled conditions. I think UNT knows how to play in wind and is in good physical shape, which might help outdoors but not necessarily indoors. If we get by the first round, it will really be tough going from then on. If UNT plays well, they could make the finals. However, they would have to play well 4 days in a row to win and inconsistency has been the problem all year long. It could be a really interesting tournament with Rice way above the rest of the field but not as talented as last year. There could be lots of upsets with lots of teams below Rice being equally talented. The second day of the tournament will be fun to watch!

  35. I don't know for sure. That's a can of worms I really don't want to open up. Some guys who I think could make that list have yet to play a snap of D1 football (like Tee Goree or Jareid Combs), and it would be a list going just off talent and ability, not necessarily production which is much more important in actuality.

  36. You can only sign more than 25 in a class if you failed to sign 25 the year before. For example, if we had signed 22, 3 under 25, players in 2015, then we could sign 28, 3 over 25, in 2016. But at least 3 of those signees would have to be midterm enrollees (guys like Cortney Finney and Creighton Barr). We signed 25 last year, so we can only sign 25 in 2016.

  39. When we first offered Dillman back in December I did very extensive research on him. What I found was very evident in this article, in that he is a very hard worker, as committed and motivated towards this as it gets (he moved halfway across the world without his parents at the age of 14 to chase his dream), and he's a bright kid. All those qualities indicate that, while he is raw as a QB prospect, he could make tremendous strides. That, on top of his size and abilities, coupled with the fact that our young QBs haven't really made any noise this spring makes it baffling to me that we aren't going to consider him at QB. This coaching staff does not have the track record here at QB decision making and developing to where they just get a free pass and shouldn't be questioned here. Especially if we're having trouble getting a replacement for Mcnulty and/or Damarcus Smith.

  42. The discontent from the students is from a very very small %. If only 2200 people (not necessarly students) signed an on-line petition, that tells you how few people are really upset about it. Are these same people going to get bent out of shape when the CEO of the company they work for has a different opinion than them? Are they going to cry when there boss says something they don't like? The real world is NOT going to bend over and cater to these people, I totally don't understand why they think a university will.

  43. So I was killing a little time this morning by checking out OOC schedules of our conference foes and ran across WKU's schedule (the probable conference fav, or at least East fav). Not to point the finger away from us to take any well warranted pressure off of our own athletic department, but they are also playing a 5 home game schedule. However, they are playing at three P5 teams... @ Vandy, @ Indiana and @ LSU. Two of those games are going to be winnable for them if their offense is anything close to what is was last year. Also, we open up our home slate against Rice as everyone knows. However, we are sandwiched in between Texas and Baylor on their schedule. That is very favorable for us. They will be vulnerable and hopefully we will be reeling off of a good W in Dallas the week before. We travel to Iowa the week after the Rice game and Iowa might be looking ahead because they have a big conference game @ Wisconsin the week after us. Following the Iowa game we travel to Mississippi to play Southern Miss after they will be coming off a probable thrashing @ Nebraska, they also follow our game with a road game @ Marshal. We come home the week after Southern Miss to hopefully pound Portland for our only sure fire win. At this point of the season, we will have a very realistic chance of being 4-1 before hosting WKU. WKU is a probable loss, but it is a home game and we have proven to be able to win games against better teams at home... 2013 wins over Ball St and Rice...IMO both better teams than us that year and we pulled the W. Nevertheless, probable 4-2 after the WKU game with a shot at 5-1. Even with the graduation of Cato I believe Marshal is going to be a loss... they have recruited well across the board for the last handful of years and have a couple of really good bruising running backs. Also, our road record, particularly under McCarney is bad so most arrows are pointing to a loss. So a shot at 5-2 at this point with a probable 4-3 record. After the Marshal game we come home and host utsa. All arrows point to getting our first W vs these dudes, finally. So, a shot at 6-2 after this game but with a probable 5-3 record. Now, this is where our scheduling is going to hurt us and will be a defining stretch of the season, IMO. November 7-21 we are @ LaTech, @ Tennessee and @ MUTS. To salvage the season into at least a memorable one we will have to win one of these. The most winnable one will be @ MUTS. No team will be vulnerable going into this game vs us. La Tech and MUTS will be coming off of winnable games before us. Tennessee will be playing competitive games the weeks before and after us vs Mizzou and SC, but that is irrelevant. They are Tennessee and they are finally primed to have a good year in arguably the best conference in the country. Oh, and we're their homecoming game. Nevertheless, we still have to beat one of these teams, odds are it will have to be MUTS. The problem with it being them is we play MUTS the last game of this 3-game stretch and confidence very well might be shot at this point (goes back to scheduling). At this point we could be 6-4, but 5-6 is a very real possibility. We end the year at home vs UTEP. UTEP is a beatable team. They are going to be unproven in a lot of areas, specifically at QB (like us). But we get them at home. This will be a probable must win game to sneak into bowl eligibility. So, after doing a little schedule analysis of our entire slate, we will need to start hot this year and the schedule is favorable early on to do just that. The late season stretch might be brutal. If we don't start the first quarter of the season off on a good note this will be a very, very long season. To play devils advocate, if we don't start off on a good note going into the Halloween game vs UTSA we very well could be 1-6. And that would before the, IMO, most difficult stretch of the season Nov. 7-21.

  45. I think the article is being a little disingenuous. Yes, the total dollar amount is much higher than it has been before, but the author also should have seen why this isn't the total story. The article itself says: I do think universities are too admin heavy. However much of that administration is there to gather funding from state, local and federal sources. Or to continue to prove they deserve federal funding in the face of higher and higher regulation. I do think that a pretty large percentage of the increase in the last 10 years or so has come from the "resort education" mindset that students and parents demand. You don't have a top flight union? No climbing wall? Well then that is going to really hurt applications. There is a ton of things that have lead to the cost being higher for individuals. As far as I can tell however the biggest one is that the states have decided to no longer under write the cost.
    1 point
  46. When I came to UNT in 1997 the State of Texas covered ~4/5 of the cost of education, today the state covers about 1/5 of the total cost. Somewhere along the line it became "fiscally responsible" to cut education when it used to be sacrosanct.
