  1. So glad we won the turnover battle! How many points do we get that for?

  7. He didnt do anything to win the job either. Our best drives of the season were with dajon. He has given us the best qb play. He has also given us the worst. Against weak comp, dajon has looked real good. Usm was a weak team. He could have lit them up. Instead we went with McNulty. We lost to a bad team. He did not look bad, but he did not look good either. Out of all our qbs, dajon is the only one that has had some successful drives against decent comp. Like some have said, he just needed the playcalling to be more conservative. We lost to usm. McNulty could be benched for that alone. I would rather means get experience these last 5 games if we cant even win usm. What happens if we start getting blown by rice? Something tells me Rice is going to get a lead, McNulty is going to struggle and dajon comes in the second half. Hes going to look good and we are all going to wonder what if he would have started against usm.

  15. The state of Mississippi has more players on NFL rosters per capita than all states but Louisiana and South Carolina. They had 32 NFL players on rosters in 2013. Calling that state limited in talent isn't true. USM gets huge advantage in that state by not having any other G5 program to recruit against. Basically, if you are in that state and aren't recruited heavily by the SEC powers around you, USM is almost always going to be the next choice. In Texas, right now, there are 7 G5 schools. If you aren't picked off by a P5 school, then you are going to choose between UH, Rice, UTSA, Texas State, UTEP, SMU, and us if you are staying in state.

  19. Yes, the UNT Library system was partially funded by the state, and it should have been funded only with student fees. The UNT library, which is grossly underfunded and showing it, had nothing directly to do with the shortfall. Funding is determined way above the paygrade of librarians or even the dean.

  23. Never ever would DT have been wallowing in self-pity on twitter. It took me until his senior year to admit I was wrong about him. I openly mocked his signing. But, at the end of the day - as our current roster of QBs are sadly proving - college football is not easy at this level. Derek persevered on and off the field. Through injury. Through losing seasons. Through coaching changes. Imagine a quarterback in 2014 with his mental toughness and knowledge of the playbook. Hope McNulty will step up to the plate and help deliver a victory this weekend. Notice I say help deliver a victory. It's a team game. If everyone can cut down the mistakes at every position and hit their assignments, this team can still win. But, everybody has to help.

  24. That is all good news. Last game was the first time I can think of (other than Tulsa a couple years ago) that McNulty was really given a chance to be "the guy". Maybe he can build off last game and help the team string some wins together.

  26. It was great to get TV and finally learn what everybody at work was talking about. Before then, when we all sat around on Saturday afternoons watching the radio, I never could figure out why we were doing that, except that all those different colored tubes looked kind of cool. Then, we got that first TV and I realized: we had been watching the radio to practice watching the TVs that Mac was bringing.

  27. Hey, one thing that hasn't been mentioned is the Rice player that pissed on our stadium last year. Which of our players will return the favor? Where is Big Dick Abbe when we really need him?

  30. Something else that I hadn't thought of before now...remember last year, when nobody projected we would do all that well our first year in the conference and everybody scheduled us for their Homecoming games? Derek Thompson worked extra hard in the offseason to win his job back and everyone's questions about the defense turned out to be unwarranted as they ended up being better than expected, plus of course we had Brelan. In addition, some of our competition, like USM, La Tech, etc. had down years last year. So maybe this year we're getting what we should have expected last year? I know that doesn't justify the poor performance against a USM team that's still struggling, but last year had a lot of pleasant surprises and this year, not so much. Essentially, is this the season we should have expected to deal with last year?

  31. I go back to looking at whether or not I think Mac is hurting the program. I see the growth in numbers at the camps. I perceive there to be more respect from the media. I see larger student turnouts. I see more alumni turnout. When those trends start reversing themselves, I may change my mind, but for now I am keeping a stiff upper lip and focusing on the longer term. I would not be opposed to infusing some energy with a new coordinator or two. Mac's job is to hire strong coaches and give them the authority to manage their area and recruit. To a lesser extent, he also has to play to the larger boosters to make them feel involved. He is basically the manager and motivator. The face of the program.

  36. I suppose that this announcement would've caused some controversy and debate about a month ago. And now here's the one time I'm ever, in my life, going to make an "At least with Dodge statement." At least with Dodge, as horrible as we were, deservedly permanent residents of the bottom 10, laughing stock of the nation, hapless and hopeless, at least back then, the fans still cared. I don't know what Mac's doing anymore, and I don't really care.

  41. You implied throwing TD's in garbage time was easy. It's not. I proved that, based upon the production of a QB you love. If throwing TD's in garbage time is not easy, it has some value. Despite how terrible the UAB game was, the highest performance any UNT QB has had this year is DW @ Indiana. He also has the most potential. I didn't say that, the coaches did. Repeatedly. So we have a QB with a lot of potential, who has already shown more than any other QB. He has one terrible game and we sit him? Doesn't make sense.

  42. Well, when your two stops are Iowa State and North Texas and you've produced five bowl teams I'd say at least a few more years.

  43. One the dumbest threads ever. How can you make the broad sweeping comment that Mac knows nothing. Why don't we see how the season plays out then we can evaluate the team/coaching? I believe Mac does know what he is doing and good things take time. Tom Landry won 5 or fewer games his first 5 seasons. " When tend to forget that all good things take time."- John Wooden Do I think Mac is the next Tom Landry? No. Do I believe this board over-reacts? Yes.

  45. WE'LL NEVER KNOW IF HE DOESN'T PLAY. That is how players get better. They don't magically become gamer when the guy in front of him graduates. You can see the effect of inexperience all over this team right now because we never had enough rotation or second team unit swaps last year. I think we have hit or are very near minimac's ceiling, and that is getting 20 points against a defense that averages giving up 36.5, what can DW do? Hell if I know exactly, but I know he'll never reach it sitting.

  46. The Jackson twins will get their shot next year. They were both good at press coverage in high school, and I am sure they still work at it. They work hard on technique too. They are not as tall as their listed height, but they can play. We might see more press coverage next year if they can get in. Whitfield is graduating in December. I dont see him staying around. Especially if he has injury issues and he is not starting. Getting the twins may be a big time help.

  48. So long as: an AD can have a hiring streak like RV has had and keep his job, we can keep a head football coach for a third year after going 3-21 his first two, we can bring a head football coach back for a fourth year after going 5-31 for his first three, we can bring back a basketball head coach who took a program that was 104-57 in the five years before he was hired and keep him after going 28-36 his first two seasons, one of which was against a schedule that was so full of lower division teams we nearly got in trouble with the NCAA and let's not forget that loss to a D-II school... So long as we treat sports as a checkbox on a list of whether or not we have them instead of actually striving to succeed in those sports, this athletic program will never be a winner.
